Mercedes contract - Just sent my "no" thank you

I decided to send them the contract e-mail back stating I would not be accepting and why - that with 20 years experience, I will quit the industry before going that low and that there are still other jobs out there willing to pay more (even if it is only for 6 months to a year that they told me it would last).  I said if they get no takers and want to consider offering us more, please feel free to contact me.  Hopefully, we all do the same.  Good luck.

Is that seriously their scare tactic? Geez.

Give me a crystal ball so I can predict how long until Mercedes offshores because their wages smell strongly of India.

I think that Mercedes is just trying wishful thinking or blowing a smoke screen with their "prediction" that all MTs in the US will have 6 months to a year before we are all at the equivalent of 6.5 cpl VBC.

First of all, that is not even going to meet the requirements for minimum wage as set by the Federal and State governments. And minimum wage is going **UP** not down.

MT companies who have employees are required by law to pay at least minimum wage. And that is why the IRS and Labor Board are coming down so hard on companies who hire ICs who are actually not true ICs, but are misclassified employees.

The only reason why companies like Mercedes would like to hire ICs is so they can get around all of those little pesky minimum wage and tax laws. If they don't have to pay their employees like the government requires them to, then they get to pocket all of that extra money for themselves. I think that companies like this are at best ignorant and at worst thieves and tax/law evaders.

I've been an MT for over 20 years and the day that my wages get cut down to offshore wages, that is the day that I leave this profession for good. Indian MTs can live quite nicely on 6.5 VBC. US MTs cannot.

the US very soon, because ALL MT jobs will disappear from the US. And it isn't offshoring or even VR that's going to drive the final nail in the coffin, it's doctor or NP-input EMR.

Although it's no excuse for paying 6.5 cpl NOW, or any other time for that matter, their prediction that it's only going to get worse is, sadly, likely correct. Look for 2015 to be one he!!uva year.

Oracle Transcription, Inc. is often abbreviated as OTI. OTI is dissolving and will no longer be in existence after September 30th. The owners of OTI are evidently splitting up and starting two completely separate companies as of October 1st.

On reading the posts below, if an MT makes 8 cpl and pay is cut down to 6.5 cpl, that is an approximately 20% pay cut. Then, going from a 65-character line with spaces to VBC (a 65-character line without spaces), that is an approximately 30% pay cut. So, 20% plus 30% equals an overall 50% pay cut.  Can that possibly be correct? ...

Can someone please help me. I am new to the company, I have not been here 90 days yet. my TSM is "gone" so I have a new one now and have not yet spoken with her.
