MT testing site-Confused, anyone else? - Bummed MT

I'm an MT with over 17 years of experience and still trying to figure this one out. In the past month, I have been directed to that MTTEST.com website to test. I have taken six tests for six different companies. Two resulted in job offers saying I passed after completely all three portions including the transcription, two with no response after completing all of the testing, and two actually would not even let me get to the transcription portion, telling me I failed the objective part (multiple choice questions etc.). HUH????

Is it is just or is this messed up? Anyone else having this kind of luck with this test site. I am not perfect by any means but I was really offended on the ones that I was rejected and they would not even allow me to do the transcription portion. As far as the two job offers, I turned them down because of low pay because I guess in hindsight beggars cannot be choosers and apparently I am not as experienced as I thought I was LOL

You are SOOO right. Been there, did it, done that. Crazy isn't it? You have XX amount years of experience, take the test (which is, for the most part, the same test) and for some companies you pass ALL portions and for some companies you pass on this portion but fail on that one. Go figure. Thanks for saying what I have been thanking for a LLOONNGG time.

I took the Medquist test, just the multiple question/written part. The thing thats really getting to me right now is that it was such an easy test. I new all of the answers right away. Or, at least I thought I did anyway. I just graduated from MTec with a 96% gpa.

I just feel silly that I must have been fooled by a trick question or something. I just should look everything up regardless of how well I think I know the answer.

MTTEST.com is owned by Career Step. Companies pay CS to use their testing platform. Each company decides if they want to use the objective portion (multiple choice, fill in the blank, etc.) section; if they do, what their minimum acceptable score is; what the tester is shown (in the screen) if they pass or fail that part. The company also decides if they want to use a transcription or editing portion. They download the "key" and the system provides an automatic comparison to a grader.

MOST companies use Career Step's graders. The companies often use Career Step's grading system. Problem is, Career Step's graders are students or former students who have not worked as MTs and they use so many different keys for different companies that their grading is grossly inconsistent. If the company chooses to grade for themselves the problem usually is that the grader does not have enough discretion to understand what types of errors constitute a lack of skill versus a possible misunderstanding or other minor issue that should not keep a tester from progressing.

I know. I did that for a company. I was appalled at what I learned about the whole setup.

Since testing materials require so much up front work (Career Step provides ALL of the objective information and can provide all of the transcription files if the companies want), companies cannot give you info on what you missed. If the company provides its own transcription files they COULD provide it (I started doing that) but they won't because it may provide a way to leak test materials.

You would also be very surprised at who cheats on those tests but it never works - those who do beautifully on the tests but not by their own honest work quickly fail out when starting to work.

Get rid of the stinkin tests, hire people based on their resumes and interviews, and use a probationary period to see if they can do the work before they receive full benefits. Gee, sounds like what what most types of jobs do.

Certainly nothing new to be confused over QA, but this one is really confusing me. Perhaps I missed the memo. I had mL changed to cc by QA. Yes, dictator stated cc, but I surely do remember being told to use mL instead so why was it changed to cc....not sure. The other change was 12 mm changed to 12-mm. OK I get NJA, change Schedule Source to work availability, then I get a job 10 minutes into it, now what? I know I don't get paid for 10 minutes of NJA/work availability. Clock out and back in under production? Will I get in trouble for the 10 minutes of work availability? Then if I get NJA again, clock back out of production and back into work availability and SEE if it goes the full 15 minutes??????????? I need a tutorial on this I guess. Any suggestion ...

You have to punch out of production to change to "work availability" and I was under the impression you can't type while in "work availability" so you have to clock out and back in under "production" if you get a job during that 15 minute wait period. I just took an online test and I found it rather easy and they said I didn't pass and then suggested more training. WTH??!! I have over 20 years experience and maintain a 99% QA. Would you take an insurance transcription job at WorldWide Transcription that pays .06 per line, has lots of work, and offers a M-F schedule. The only con I can find is that they mail paper checks, instead of direct deposit. Or would you take a transcription job with Integrity HD. I am just venting!!! Somewhere along the line I guess I misunderstood the whole concept behind VR. I have a real hard time understanding why a bunch of words, many that don't make any sense or even sound like what is dictated, in no type of formatting constitutes a report; VR dictation that needs to be restructured and pretty much retyped but yet I get paid less and required to do it faster than a real "typed" report. Does BayScribe only count the total time you're actually 'in' reports as the time that's weighed against your server time? OK....just to be sure I understand this.....if I am an IC, do I deduct approximately 15% (like what my previous employer deducted for SS and Medicare) OR do I deduct 30% for my part and employer part? I was reading the ad posted by Synernet and thought it sounded quite decent, what with benefits and incentive plan, etc., then I noticed their ad has 4 "dislikes."
