How soon do you hear from companies after applying? - anon

Posted: Apr 05, 2012

Just wondering if anyone can tell me how soon you hear from companies after applying. I have applied to several over the past couple of weeks and have 18 years experience and am not hearing from anyone.  I am starting to get very discouraged.

Not hearing either.. - MT 22 years

Very discouraging. Good luck to you.

I recently heard back from two companies, one within the hour and the other 24 hours. I've heard from others usually after a couple of weeks, and one (the job I currently have) I heard from two months after I applied.
There's no real rhyme or reason to it, and you may not hear anything at all. If your resume does not fit or if you have indicated things you will/won't do, these are things that can have them passing right over your resume.

In all honesty, your years of experience once you pass 5, really don't hold a lot of weight. I've worked with long-time transcriptionists whose work abilities were just not all that. I've worked with relatively short-term transcriptionists whose work was awesome. What the client and the MTSO want, is an end product that doesn't need a lot of massaging and you can do that with 5 years as well as 18.

I'd encourage you to look at your resume. Does it need updated? Tweaked? Refined? Are you sending a cover letter? Are you listing things you want/don't want (hours for instance)?

Keep applying, something will come through.

I've been doing this a long time now. In my experience, the job offers have come within days of submitting my resume. Never more than 2 days. This has just been my experience.

How Long To Hear Back After Applying
Feb 13, 2013

I applied for a hospital job (non-MT) about 2 weeks ago and have heard nothing yet.  I am just wondering how long I should wait to hear back.  This is not the only job I applied to, sending out resumes, but this is the one I wanted.  The job is still posted on their website, so presumably not filled yet.  Does it normally take this long or am I being unrealistic?  Should I just move on?  I want to move on, tired of waiting.  Just wondering if anybody else has a ...

Check Out Companies Before Applying!
Dec 01, 2014

Please, please, please, check out the companies that post on the job seekers board before responding to them!  I was just about to respond to a job posting when I decided to Google search the company first.  It turns out the company went under (under the same manager that posted the job) in 2009.  Yup, they might be up and running again, but there's nothing on Google about them other than they used to be a company under this particular person and they haven't been a ...

I Still Work At MQ Part-time And Applying With Other Companies. Sm
Aug 22, 2011

What do you put on the application when they ask why you wish to leave, or the reason you left your last job?  I only had this question on one application.  Like I said, I still work part-time at MQ and my real reason is that my job will probably go to India like so many others have.  Would you actually put that reason or what reason would you give them? ...

I Have Sent My Resumes To 10 Different Companies And Hear Back Nothing, Nada . . . . .
Apr 13, 2010

I have been doing MT for almost 15 years, and the one company I have been with for the past 9 years is suddenly getting less and less work.  I have been sending out resumes, taking the tests, etc., and I don't hear ONE THING BACK from any of them  . . . . so frustrating.  We are in the process of buying a new house and then this happens - I may have to take a job outside of home, but I wan't to be here for my kids:( ...

Why Do MT Companies Say They Need Help ASAP And Then You Answer Ad And Do Not Hear For About 2 Weeks
Feb 17, 2012

Why when you apply for a job and then they answer back and say they would like to hear from you ASAP because they want to get started training you, etc; you oblige and then don't hear anything back ---it has been a week now and I was told to please answer if I would be interested as they would like to start me ASAP and then you don't hear anything--the least they could do is being courteous and not be rude and tell you that it will be a while before they can get to you instead of leavi ...

Applying For Job
Jan 10, 2011

Okay, this is somewhat of a strange situation.  I have been looking for a job in the field that I was in prior to becoming an MT 11 years ago, which would be a full-time position with benefits.  Currently I am IC.  I had lost my previous job due to downsizing and the office/company that I worked for basically closed it's Wisconsin branch except for a handful of employees.  I just found out that one of the employees at this small Wisconsin branch of the company that I use ...

Done Applying For MT Jobs
Apr 10, 2012

I need to write this for my own sake. I can no longer apply or test for these company positions. I am being rejected in one way or another by all of them. I have done this for going on 30 years. I can't take it anymore. It is so very very painful to deal with this. I think in my heart I have given up finding any MT position or any job at this point in my life. All I do is get angry, cry, throw things. Very very depressed and I get from friends is either God has something special for ...

Be Very Careful When Applying To SoftScript

Burned Out On Job Applying, Testing Etc.
May 10, 2010
