I understand it. Responding to job applications should - be a common courtesy.
[ In Reply To ..]
Not responding is rude. I don't care if they say they get "800 resumes" (I rather doubt that... I think it's just a lame excuse). How hard is it to have a couple of template emails, preferably that say it like it is: "Job has been filled". "Not enough experience". Or "We think you might be a fit, and will be contacting you in __ week(s)."
And if they promise to contact you, then by golly they should DO IT! Not string us along.
Every time I apply to a company, a lot of work goes into it. I read their ad & qualifications thoroughly, to be sure I understand what they want, and that my skills match. Sometimes my resume gets changed slightly for each application, and my cover letter is always customized to that job.
They could at least take the 2 seconds it would take to go to a template email and hit "send".
I get those responses - see message - Skeptical

Acutally, 800 resumes sounds about right. I don't know if you realize it but even brick and mortar employers don't have time to follow up with all their applicants. I've applied for jobs at the facility where I currently work that have had 400 applicants for one position, they generally only respond to the most qualified job seekers. I don't know how much time you are waiting for a response after applying, but there is nothing to stop YOU from following up with the companies. Send them an e-mail or call them, even reapply if you think that would work, it depends on how badly you want/need the job. Believe it or not, it does take time to sort through resumes and applications, yours may be at the botom of a huge stack. Bosses and recruiters go on vacation, take time off and get sick just like the rest of us. Employers have a responsibility to acknowledge your app, but it doesn't stop there, you need to show some responsibility as well after applying.
If they "dont have time" to follow up with applicants, they - wont have time for employee communication either.
[ In Reply To ..]
Which will of course lead to high turnover, third-rate work, unhappy clients, etc.
They seem to forget that even if someone isn't the employee they're looking for now (i.e., a newbie), they risk alienating someone who might have been their dream-employee a couple years later.
If I don't get a followup on an application, I never apply to that company again, because I figure working for them would be even worse than applying to them.
she asked how then to get a job - if no one ever even acknowledges

Like I said. Keep sending resumes until an MTSO hires you. - Simple. Why would you need to SM
[ In Reply To ..]
hear "sorry, not interested"? Bottom line, they contact you for interview or they don't. Keep submitting resumes to different MTSOs until the day you start working.
Get someone else to look at your resume. - Could it be improved?

If no one ever responds, I would get someone to check over your resume and cover letter.
If you are submitting them by email, make sure email address is professional and easily recognizable as you, i.e., your name, and that it is easy to type.
Include your email address in both resume and cover letter so you can be contacted.
Be sure you meet their qualifications and that it is easily determined from your resume. Explain how you meet them.
Apply with the assumption that companies are NOT desperate because they aren't. They just keep ads up all the time because it is more economical to do so.
Assume that companies may receive hundreds of applications a week. Your application needs to stand out from the crowd in a positive way.
Understand that companies have limited space in their email accounts. Your application needs to be a reasonable size. Do not use Outlook stationery background or other graphics that make your documents larger than they would be in a plain email or document.
Also consider that your employment test scores may be disqualifying you. If you did not test at 98 or even 99%, you might not meet their qualifications.
Make sure you applied the way they asked. Follow the instructions. Fill out the application completely.
Most HR departments have so many applicants that they cannot respond. Huge numbers are from people who are not even MTs. Initial review of applications may begin with the envelope or email address--scrawled handwriting, incorrectly addressed, no return address, or email addresses like "biteme@email.com" go right in the trash. Resumes and cover letters with even one typo or grammar error go right in the trash. Applications with attention-getting devices like hot pink paper, watermarks, or nonstandard fonts may go right in the trash. Test scores below 98% may go right in the trash. Emails with background stationery that the reviewer dislikes or finds unprofessional, and that may be ANY background, go right in the trash.
An amazing number of applications go right in the trash because employers do not like the school you attended, do not know the school you attended, or because something in your resume makes them think you are not an MT. For example, calling yourself a "transcriber" may cause your resume to go in the trash. Saying you did or love "transcriptioning" or "transcripping," or that you did "transcrips" or "transcriptions," will definitely cause your resume to go right in the trash.
Make sure their emails are not getting caught in your spam filter or being rejected because your email account is full.
We need to hear "sorry, not interested" so we can - check them off our list of maybes. (sm)

Especially if you apply to more than 1 company at a time, and one in particular is the one you want the most.
I know I'm guilty of holding out to hear from an employer I REALLY wanted to work for - everything seemed like a perfect fit - and held off sending my resume to my second-choice employer, because I was so sure I would be able to land the job with #1. By the time I figured they weren't interested, I had blown my chances with job choice #2, as well.
I know, that was MY fault. But these idiot employers think THEIR time is the only time in the world that is valuable.
Maybe when you hear nothing, that would be a clue to check - them off the list. nm
How can she get job if never acknowleged? Huh, it is not the - acknowlegement that gives her the job. SM
[ In Reply To ..]
It is the contact requesting an interview/testing that sends her on her way to employment. Acknowledging the resume doesnt mean anything, just that they recieved it. She still doesnt know if she had a job or not, unless/until contacted for interview/testing.

You can also send them an e-mail and inquire as to the status of your application. Most of them have a "contact us" form on their website, or send it to the recruiter directly if you have their e-mail address. The big companies generally have a toll free number and HR department, don't be afraid to go for something if you really want it. If you call, it places you in a negative light and they cross you off their list, you won't be any worse off than when you started. Chances are they will appreciate someone who is willing to take some responsibility and meet them half way. I guess I am different; I have followed through with a phone call, an e-mail or a phone call if I'm kept waiting and don't hear anything, even with on-site employers. I've also always followed through with an interview thank you note or e-mail, even when I didn't want or didn't get the job.
What about the employers who adamantly state on their - ads, "NO PHONE CALLS"?
[ In Reply To ..]
In one case (an inhouse hospital MT job), I was told they ONLY take online applications. When I didn't hear back, I walked into HR in person, and asked if I could fill out another application in person. No way, I was told - only online. When I got no answer from either my first or second online application, I tried calling. Asked HR if I could be connected to Transcription. Was given a gruff "No" and disconnected.
All that time and legwork, when all they needed to do was just send:
(a) An email stating they even RECEIVED my online application, and
(b) An online rejection statement.
I'm sorry, but this kind of treatment for ANY applicant is inexcusably rude.
Each and every person who applies for a job - ANY job, is sincerely interested, really wants a job, and even if they aren't qualified, they deserve to be told so.
To be just left hanging in thin air makes any employee (and not just in MT) feel like a worthless non-entity.
And I think that kind of treatment of earnest applicants speaks volumes about how the company likely treats those they actually do hire.
Discouraged As Well - southmt

I completely agree with the lack of involvement and followup that these companies show. I have applied, taken tests, and the whole nine yards. I recently was called by a company and was emailed the test. I really thought I had done well and was excited to hear back from the representative aaaaaannndddd nothing. I followed up today and received an email stating that I wasn't being hired for the position. Well thanks for the followup. I took the time to apply, interview, and take the test. I couldn't at least get a phone call or email? Most of these reps have smartphones and can access their emails. Just shoot me a quick note saying, "No go!"
Company I work at right now is really slow and I am making like 150.00 a month and I desperately need a 2nd job but every single company I apply to, I never hear anything back. I am not a newbie...I have experience. It is just so frustrating. I know my resume looks good. ...
This con artist is using indeed.com to advertise for MTs. They use various cities, state the job is for a F/T MT to be paid $13 to $15 per hour. They do not list a phone number or address, but list a legitimate business Web site. This one used nestrealty.com (legit and has nothing to do with the scammer) and a legit realtor's name Marjorie Adam who is in VA. After sending your resume, they reveal this info, stating she is "also a realtor" hmm, doctor and realtor on t ...
Does anyone know how to send your resume when you fill out the online application at a company's website? There is the usual blank (tiny window) and to the right of that box it states browse. When you click on browse it takes you to where your resume is located on your computer, and then instead of actually putting your resume into the app, it just puts where your resume is located. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to do this. If someone would be so ki ...
For the first time in 6 years, I am job hunting. Sadly, things seem to be going downhill fast with the employer I have been with for just over 6 years now and I have a strong feeling that it's time for me to start exploring other options. I just dusted off and updated my resume and sent it to a couple of companies who have ads posted. It has been so long since I have had to apply for jobs. My question is how long to you wait after sending your resume before follo ...
Just wondering if anyone can tell me how soon you hear from companies after applying. I have applied to several over the past couple of weeks and have 18 years experience and am not hearing from anyone. I am starting to get very discouraged. ...
I have been doing MT for almost 15 years, and the one company I have been with for the past 9 years is suddenly getting less and less work. I have been sending out resumes, taking the tests, etc., and I don't hear ONE THING BACK from any of them . . . . so frustrating. We are in the process of buying a new house and then this happens - I may have to take a job outside of home, but I wan't to be here for my kids:( ...
Why when you apply for a job and then they answer back and say they would like to hear from you ASAP because they want to get started training you, etc; you oblige and then don't hear anything back ---it has been a week now and I was told to please answer if I would be interested as they would like to start me ASAP and then you don't hear anything--the least they could do is being courteous and not be rude and tell you that it will be a while before they can get to you instead of leavi ...
I'm looking to get out of my job in a bad way and my resume was less than pretty. I ran across this site and it was awesome. It's free to update your resume but charges to print or email, copy, etc. But for a cover letter and resume was only $2.95 but will auto-renew at $34 if you don't cancel within 2 weeks. But I did the trial period and got an awesome resume and fantastic cover letter. It's easy to use and fun. Hope this helps a little bit.

Just curious: Any MDI MTs not feeling like jumping through the hoops, printing out the paperwork for Transcend on THEIR deadline even though we don't become official employees until Feb 1? Anybody going to just quit and save yourself the hassle? Doesn't seem quite fair to want MDI MTs to just say "how high" when they say "jump" does it? I'm just put out at how we've been treated. Yeah, it's business, and that usually means it is okay t ...
I'm just sayin....as a radiology MT in this company for 14 years...we have always sent radiology reports straight through to the docs to review and sign (because of turnaround time)....never knew they did QA until I got new accounts 2 years ago....and have had some pretty bad foreigners. I believe it is docs job to go over his reports anyway...he is legally responsible.. ...
Just wondering about the sending of blanks. I had a few blanks due to inaudible dictation. I know QA wouldn't be able to get it either, but when I uploaded the job the QA box was checked and I tried to uncheck it and it wouldn't let me.
So, how do you just send it straight to the client and not to QA? ...
Are they kidding? Who is going to be sending ANYTHING to QA and take a chance of having their pay cut? Especially if it's the beginning of the work week! Yes, the clients will be getting blanks and I know they will be complaining. The Q keeps sending us e-mails telling us to cut down on QA submissions. Are they kidding? No amount of "tips" will help if the dictator mumbles, sneezes, is ESL, etc. Don't they think we know all the "tricks" already? Besides that, we can't ...
I feel that I flag a lot and send to QA a lot. I've been at this for about a year, do acute care, lots of ESL etc so I think it's a reasonably difficult account; but I ask myself do really experienced MTs, e.g. those at this for 5 years or 10 years or more, send so many jobs over to QA? I mean, do you get to the point where you can pretty much understand everything these guys are saying, even when they're chewing, slurring, belching etc.? I would love to make it ...
My husband is in the stock market and has been checking up and reading things about MedQuist. MedQuist is now in a transition of sending more to India than ever before. According to the CEO and COO, they are looking to increase their volume of 15% of MQ total work to 45% in the next 6 months. The purchase of Spheris was a smokescreen. The contract with Spheris was that they could come in and set up shop with their own people and move the MQ folks out. Which is ...

Idea to contact CNN and see if we could get the attention of Dr Sanjay Gupta to do an investigative piece on offshoring. After all, this is his country, and it might interest him for many reasons. I want to send questions to TM although the email stated to send them to ccm. I have tons of questions. this is not fair at all. we cannot help poor audio, hemming and hawing by the dictator, dictators who cannot dictate......who the heck is running this show, lucy and ethel??? bunch of creeps. ...
I am working on sending back my equipment for MQ and just got the mailing slips in the mail today. The sheet that comes along with it tells me I'm not required to send back the foot pedal, speaker, keyboard or mouse. This makes no sense to me.....anyone been here before?? Did you just send everything back regardless?? Please help. ...
Okay, I got a ding today from my extremely sweet and helpful QATL. It seems I did not send as a cc a requesting physician dictated. I looked at the report and I did enter the requesting physician in the ADT and the body of the report. I thought if they did not specifically request a cc be sent, then you did not. Am I wrong? Old dog needs help. Also, I thought if the Req Physician was in the ADT it automatically received a carbon copy.. Hmmm.. ...
Why should we be docked for sending work to QA especially when there is an issue with poor audio quality, having a job that is incomplete or simply not being able to find the correct address even after we have spent time doing the propper research.
