It is not what works best, it is what works at all. You have to have something that contains Outlook and Word. I am assuming you are using eScription, a system that requires both Word and Outlook. It uses Outlook as some sort of transfer shuttle between your computer and the ES server. This is why you can't use the Home and Student version, because it has everything you need but Outlook. I have 2010 and it worked fine for the brief period I was there. I hope you have a better go of it than I did there. If they told you there would be little ESL and a great account, it is not likely to happen. When there was work, it was all bad, 80-90% ESL and the other 10-20% that weren't ESL also spoke English as a second language. They want 250 lines an hour for the most horrible accounts that I have worked in 20 years. I ended up making less than minimum wage, and always ended up getting less than I calculated I should have. As if that were not bad enough, I repeatedly ran out of work, and the QA is to put it nicely above and beyond. I had over 99%, but it just was not worth it. I do, however, understand needing a job so badly that you'll try anything.
I have decided that as soon as I can find something else, I'm leaving the MT field. If you sit and figure the time you spend going over all the account specs, using your own office equipment and software, utilities, etc. it is a losing proposition. The compensation for most places any more is either at or too close to minimum wage, or in your case less than, unless you are lucky enough to work as an employee of an actual hospital or doctors group. If you find a good MTSO with good benefits and incentive, they end up selling out to one of the monsters, and then it's just a matter of time before all the good pay, benefits and incentives are gone. It may take a few months, but it's foolish to expect anything more these days.
The work we do as MTs is skilled, requiring attention to detail, precision and accuracy. There is absolutely no respect for what we do and what this work actually requires. We are hands down the most poorly compensated healthcare industry workers. However, the prevailing attitude is that they could get a trained monkey to do transcription and editing. Well, they can go get a trained monkey. If I work at some fast food joint, I won't have to worry about 98-100% QA, HIPAA, account specs, the wrong account, encounter, MRN, patient name, WT, and all the glory that goes with MT work these days. I won't be miserable because I know that I'm being cheated and exploited every time I sit down at the keyboard and give my skill away for a fraction of what it is really worth. I won't be expected to sing the praises of an MTSO that was started by someone who was an MT and has made a fortune exploiting those of us who chose to actually work to make our living. If I am going to be compensated as if I have no skill, then by all means let me work in a job that requires no special skill, where I won't be the one that taking all the dings for not getting the right encounter, account, etc. because the doctor who is so busy walking on water they refuse to waste their time getting any of the correct information for their own patient. Let me work where I will be more fairly compensated for the work done and the worst thing that could happen would be there was not enough ice in the cup, I didn't say hello loud enough, or my smile was not big enough. You'd better believe that they will have work for you to do when you take the time to show up to work and there will be no confusion over how much you will actually be paid for every hour of your time.
Wow, all she asked is what version of Word to use. - xxx

Have you gone off your rocker? We all agree with what you're writing, but that has nothing to do with which version of Office for her to buy. She just asked a simple question, and she got a chapter of a novel.
sm---so don't read and type your 250 lines! - 2 cents

Nobody is making you read unless you are an MTSO checking your reputation.

My experience with the recent hiring was quite chaotic, with several miscommunications on the part of TTS HR. The only thing I can imagine is somehow they've confused my resume with another as the questions and reason for no hire were totally inconsistent with my resume relating to experience with SR (said no experience - 3+ years experience), ESLs (no ESL exp - 12 years on 85% ESL account), shift (looking for 2nd - which is what I was looking for)... absolutely every reason given for no hire was the opposite of my resume and application. Very strange.
Same experience - Long Time MT

I had the same exact experience with them and so I called and left a voicemail saying you've confused me with someone else. Then they left me another email about my "verifible" experience, which I gave them but I have heard nothing since. Very weird.
Does anyone wonder why TTS has - ex-TTSer

computer and did your expansion etc load okay when you switched computers. I had to upgrade to windows 7 because XP is not longer HIPAA compliant and I am hoping my expanders get into the new computer okay when I load 6.1. ...
Anyone know which Office 2010 version you have to have to be compatible with EditScript? I have to upgrade from 2003 and had to get the Small Business Edition of that. Is it the same with 2010? Thanks! ...
I am in need of finding a good site to purchase MS Word 2007 Full Version. Here is the reason: I was working for a company and noted I had not received work in 2 days. Then contacted TL. She then informed me that the account I was assigned to that work was no longer available at that facilty. Nice of them to tell me. I babysat that computer for 2 days. It was soooo nice of them of giving me the heads up.
Now they tell me that they can put me on a ...
I will start working from home as an MT next week, however have discovered that the software (Microsoft Office 7, Professional Version) required by the company is quite different from 2003 version. I have used autotext for years when transcribing by simply highlighting and saving to keyboard strokes easy to remember, but the 07 version has several other names for autotext like building blocks, etc, and will only allow 255 characters. I have tried setting up a macro, as well with diff ...
I just read an article yesterday on Huffington Post that because the Post Office is losing so much money they are gearing up to close hundreds of post offices around the country which will include up to 100,000 layoffs. I can't even wrap my mind around that number. Anyone who says we are not in a depression has their head in the sand. ...
Numerous cc's not in the database which have to be added, address and all. Short reports, of course, that take 3x longer than the dictation time. Just shoot me now.
I can't wait until I get a new job! Came close today - job lead was 1/2 day too late. :-( Hopefully the other person won't work out :-} ...
I'm starting with a new company next week. My Windows 7 PC has Office 2013 Professional. The new company's platform is only compatible with 2010 or earlier. I don't have the money to spend on 2010, so I'll either have to decline the offer or try to find a way to install 2010 cheaply. I thought I might be able to download a version for free, since it's not the newest version, but it doesn't look like I can do that. Any ideas? ...
I have been at home working full time for about a year. I have been an MT longer, but I always had kept a job outside of the home also because I like interaction with other. I have found that I am starting to lose my people skills. Do others have this same problem? It is like I have forgotten how to really be able to hold a conversation with others. This is something that really bothers me as I have always loved customer service and working with people and main ...
DQS/DQM work with IE7 or IE8, or only IE6? I've been reading about the security problems with IE6, but I thought I was told that was the only one that would work with Medquist's DQS/DQM, so curious what version everyone else is using. TIA! ...
I am just curious as the version of Internet Explorer that most of you are using. I still have IE 7 and am wondering if maybe it's time to switch to IE 8. Is IE 8 all that great, or is it basically the same as the other? Any thoughts? TIA! ...
Does anyone know where to find the old version to download? I uninstalled the new, could not get logged on all day, and want to install the old simply so I an work. But, DocuManage just installs the new version automatically. ...
I guess I am getting too old and not adapting as quick as I used to, but I find having accounts in both new and old a little confusing. My mind and fingers don't want to switch about so easily. This is just 2 weeks, hoping it gets more natural soon. I think I only got my normal line count 2 days out of the training period. I did quit doing that print preview so often. Wow. that is truly a time killer isn't it? ...
Finally I get a clear dictator!
And it's ASR. So I wasn't even laughing when the clear word "radiculopathy" came through in the system as "retic kilo disease".
Sheesh. ...
Does anyone know if the training on MQ Central is paid and what happens if we dont take it? :) Seriously, an hour to learn how to use the new Docuscribe? Is this going to work as well as the new and improved email? Maybe I should pass on the class. ...
I haven't trained yet for new versions but I think I read somewhere we no longer have to worry so much about account specifics i.e. formatting for ROS, bolds or caps for headings. This sounds good to me. My main account is on indefinite hold for converting so would love to hear some positives from those already there. TIA ...
Please excuse my ignorance ... I have worked for only one hospital and one small company for 16 years and haven't been exposed to lots of different MTSOs and accounts. What is a Version 8 account? I keep seeing that in ads on job seeker's board and have no idea what it means. Thanks in advance for info! ...
I use my own computer and am about to get a new one. Does the computer that MQ is giving have Windows 7 home edition (64 bit only) or the edition that has both 32 and bits? Are they still using Dell?
Thanks!

I downloaded the new version of Smartype, and I need to figure out how you get something not to expand like say if you type pm and it expands it but you don't want it to. The older version you could type the word and press the shift key while pressing the spacebar and it would not expand, but it does not work that way on this version. I have no idea how to change the hotkey from the spacebar either. I have looked through the help pages and can't find it. ...
Is someone able to help me with playing .rm or .ra files in Express Scribe? I have tried everything to download one file into Express Scribe. I did it one time, then my free trial ran out, so I had to uninstall/re-install, and now I cannot find any version that allows these type of files. I have also tried a converter, but do not want to purchase one because this is for a test.
So, I'm wondering if there is a certain version of ES that does allow these files? OR, ANY other advice is gre ...
Can someone pls tell me which word version works better with the E-scription platform at Nuance? MS Word 2003 (Professional or Standard), MS Word 2007 (Standard, Professional, Professional Plus, Enterprise, Ultimate, or Small Business), or MS Word 2010 32 bit only (Standard, Professional, Professional Plus or Home & Business). Thank you! ...
I got a new computer a couple weeks ago with Windows 7 and IE 8. Since IE 9 is not compatable with Editscript, when IE did the automatic update to IE 9 things started going bonkers while working, so I uninstalled it. During the uninstall, somehow IE 8 dissappeared completely. No matter what I try, I can't get IE 8 back. (I know this sounds confusing). My question is.....Has anyone tried to run IE 10 with Editscipt? Whenever I try to search for an older ve ...
Is there any way for a company to know if you have MS Home and Office or Home and Student, etc. versus the Professional suite? I am job hunting and some companies require that you have MS Word Professional. I am not applying to these companies requiring it because I am in desperate need of a job before I lose my home and there is really no guarantee that they would employ you long enough for the program to pay for itself. I just can't afford it right now. ...
Isn't the latest Fluency upgrade supposed to put the correct age of the patient within the body of the report, or did I misunderstand? I've had 2 incidences where the age was wrong and still had to figure it out for myself. ...

Am a current Webmedx employee and would like some information so as to prepare and make personal decisions for this "new chapter".
Nuance QA, are they really mostly overseas employees as a previous post alluded to?
Does Nuance have MT- or QA-only positions or do you take whatever is the next report you get in the queue (be it a report to QA, a voice rec report to edit, or a report to transcribe)?
Do you work on a set of accounts or does everyone do every account?
Sounds like t ...
