A week after the Webmedx pay changes, how much did you lose? - sm

Posted: May 09, 2011

Just wondering how we're all doing after a week. How much pay did you lose in one full week?

Sad to see how this company has changed. You used to never see anything negative about them on these boards. They were rarely mentioned at all. My how times have changed.

Really sad...It is difficult because of the changes at different aspects, and over half mine was straight transcription, but on that straight transcription 6000 lines, I lost $45 because of change in bonus levels (even though line rate was unchanged!)

For the 3750 lines of ISR, when combining BOTH the loss in the line rate AND the change in bonus, I lost another $35, for a total loss from just 1 week of $80. This really really stinks!!

It really has devastated me. - sad

[ In Reply To ..]
Cutting line rates AND cutting bonus levels is so much worse than I thought, $80 to $100 a week. They have knocked me down many times, and I have been able to get back up, but this time, I'm not going to be able to get back up. It's just too much.

Yes it is worse for someone with heavy ISR because that was hit double and I suspect some will have higher than $100/week loss. My account with straight transcription where I do 1/2 to 2/3 of my work will soon be converting, then it will be even more of a hit, but my example does illustrate that even for those who did not have their line rate changed (with straight transcription) it was still a pretty hefty blow!

I am discouraged though as I have been looking around and many places still pay even less. I have found one that pays more, am looking into it.

Based on my last paycheck, I'm going to lose $340 or thereabouts per payperiod. I would have to increase my productive about 5000 lines per week to make it up, if I'm figuring correctly. I was devastated. I do about 90% ISR these days.
pay cut/line increase - disgusted
[ In Reply To ..]
Losing too much money, working for peanuts isn't cutting it. Do the math folks. Let's just say, you prefer to do only your required lines per week, (ISR) now 6500 x 0.488 = $7.92 per hour. I DON'T think so. Been in this field way to long to be making this kind of money. We deserve more and better and we need to take a stand. You can get a job anywhere paying that much. I think I am done with the MT world, as I see this happening with almost all MTSOs. We (underdogs) are not the ones who need to have our pay cut. We are the ones who do the work! We need to take a stand and now or it will only get worse!

that the pay cuts wouldn't really hurt anyone except the slacker MTs? She posted that she wanted to meet someone at *high noon* after the newest figures were posted on the comm page.
Don't see myself as Miss Sunshine, but I believe - you are referring to me. If you care
[ In Reply To ..]
to reread, you'll see I was referring to the new incentive tier minimums and pointing out that the incentive pay scale is currently staying PRETTY MUCH THE SAME compared to the amount of work going to SR. This part of the changes COULD BENEFIT those of us doing more SR than before as we can expect to produce a significantly higher line count. It, of course, does not at all benefit those who are not doing more SR than before.

Since our SR line rate cut seems to to run a bit less than 1/2 cent per line and only one higher tier achieved pays 1/2 cent MORE per line, average SR producers should not be adversely affected by the new tier minimums and may even do better in that respect. More SR means that some will find themselves achieving more than one incentive scale jump over what they could do with heavier transcription.

At no point did I suggest a rate cut itself was okay.

As long as the quality of SR sent to us is so bad we can literally transcribe too much of it faster, SR was already too low paid. IF that were to change equitably, as it desperately needs to, the typical editor could end up doing as well as before there too, hopefully just as well as doing only transcription. Anyone wanting to talk to management about this should probably focus on the impossibly poor quality of some of the reports coming through for editing. Actually, in the past few days mine has had less of the horrible stuff, but I'm not holding my breath and afraid to hope it means anything. But it should.
There is no way to spin this to make it appear - ??

to benefit anyone on any level. I don't understand what you are saying. The bottom line is, we have to do more to receive less.

You ask what I do? I cut corners! I speed way too fast through reports now. I never try to fill in blanks. I miss lots of little words I am sure. But when one must feed their kids and pay their bills, oh well. If Webmedx does not care about me, I don't care about them. Never thought I would do this.
I sure hope you aren't editing a report of one of my family members - see message

Just because you are unhappy with your employer that is no excuse to do crappy work or jeapordize patient care.

Find a better job and move on. If you cannot find a better job, then do your job with some pride.

I've had cruddy jobs in my life that did not pay well. But I did the best job that I could do, no matter the pay or the task in front of me.

their sentences, not customizing standard headings to dictator preferences, not correcting wording that makes sense as is to train SR, and lots of stuff like that that produces a clean professional report but does not affect the clinical quality of the report. I research less to fill in blanks, but that varies depending on how important the word is and whether it's a medical term (I should know them all). Really bad SR or sound quality that'll have to go to QA anyway I now don't relisten to, more than once anyway. I'm working on my compulsive side on that one as there's room for some real time saving there--on the type of report that shouldn't be sent to me anyway.

I absolutely do still break text into appropriate paragraphs so clinicians can find the information. That one I would never compromise on.

until that pay cut is reversed. It would also be tempting to PICKET outside of the hospitals that are fueling the constant lowering of our wages by demanding this work be done practically for free.
picket at hospitals that go with companies that offshore - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Our wages across the board and across all companies started coming down with first ISR and then off shoring. I think if our pay were higher we could still do fine once we learn the editing skills on ISR. However, NOT with the pitiful rates being paid!

I say let people know that hospitals are having patient confidential records typed in India! If we could get this practice to stop, all of our wages would go up! (Not just Webmedx, but all the MTSOs!)

plugged up by making sure that work can't return. How? By refusing to edit it until we're paid decently.

The Indians are getting gypped, as well. Maybe it's time they, too, stood up and demanded a fair wage.

the time clocks, monitoring software, pay cuts, off-shoring. They have no idea.

Offshore - longtimeMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I think everyone is not really understanding the issue here. It really doesn't have a lot to do with offshoring. It has to do with the industry changing. The MTSOs are just trying to do what they have to do to do be competitive and to stay afloat in today's market. There is now front-end speech, which allows the doctors to dictate AND edit their own reports, there are radiology programs that are being developed that will "read" the images automatically. Some day there may not be much work at all for MTs and MCSs, so the bottom line is we should be glad we have a job at all. I know it really sucks that I used to make more than $60,000 a year and now I make less than $50,000, but at least I'm not in the unemployment line.

I am not the person who posted originally, and it is not related to pay cuts, BUT it is something else being sold to us as a HELP...but is a HUGE PAIN!! Out of all reports for the last 3 days, only 2 reports actually fit the circumstances for it, and then you have to remember to check the box so it does NOT reorder. So, the end result, is LOST time, and thus LOST money, so that I am guessing Webmedx can do more data mining and thus benefit THEM.
Agreed. sm - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
The training video so emphasized how this is going to help MTs produce more. That's been the standard line of baloney for every change they roll out that benefits them but not employees. This adds yet one more hoop MTs have to jump through to produce a report. As it is, in decades in this business I've never seen such over-the-top account specifics with specifications and exceptions for every nuance under the sun.
pay cut - it never ends
[ In Reply To ..]
Any time a company adds multiple extra steps to produce a report and extra time-consuming screen changes on every report it IS a paycut. I am not spreading rumors. My line count shows this new "improvement" is going to cost me money.

How in the world can automatic reordering be a nightmare? You type the report in whatever order you want, it reorders it the way the client wants it after sending the report. I think it's great!!

Pay cuts across board at all transcribing companies - Over the hill transcriber

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't work for Webmedx, but have been a transcriber over 30 years and work for 2 other companies..seems Webmedx is following in all MT company's footsteps, unfortunately. It doesnt pay to be a transcriber anymore. In the 80s and 90s I made a lot of money, i mean a lot of money, but with speech recognition averaging 4-5 cents a line doesnt cut it....it is next to impossible to make any kind of money being an MT now a days..good luck to all of you working at Webmd...as a veteran transcriber, my advice to you, is change careers, seriously especially if you are younger, wish I would have...still considering it
