AND they prefer second or third shift!!! - No wonder there is "lots of work" NM

when do you think docs dictate mostly? do they not see paitent's - all day long, perform surgeries, do rounds?

Second shift is the best shift around if you wah, wah, wah-nt lines.

Boy can I comment on this one. I just recently got a job doing independent medical examinations for a very large company that contracts to smaller MTSOs. I was told by the company owner that I would be paid 9 cpl for this position but that I needed a computer with Windows XP. I had an old one and thought I could give this try for 9 cpl, mostly orthopedics my expertise. Come to find out that was XP Pro and not XP Home that I had. So dumb me I went and spent $161 for an old laptop with the Pro version. It would have cost the same to upgrade the old one. Then after that I learned that this was 9 cpl 65-character line in Word count WITHOUT SPACES which translates to something like 7.25 cpl. I must also say that this job involves doing a lot of tasks on my own time such as scanning long reports for answers for chart notes that go along with an IME and, of course, proofreading. The files are very long and I got one of these long ones and just simply tore my hair out with the anger thatIwasnot beingpaidforspaces. Was expected to work weekends too and was just assigned files without so much as asking if I could work weekends. Yes I know how that feels. Yes these companies are nuts.

Then when questioned about it, you could just say, "Since you didn't place any value on the spaces, I figured you didn't care about having them in the reports."

I don't think I'm going to stay with this job. If I don't that will be what I do on the last report I do for them. Very good idea.

My company is no longer including spaces in the line count. The line rate has gone up a bit, but not enough to compensate for that loss in the character count. When I am transcribing, I am hitting some key combination that is turning my type to all caps. It's not the caps lock or it would show it was on. Transcribing as fast as all of us do it is impossible to figure out what I am hitting to make this happen. Does anyone have any ideas??? So appreciative!!! :) ...

ESL, after saying the headings, repeats them along with adding a few more words, but it still means the same damn thing, says "umm you know" after almost every other word, keeps saying "feeded" instead of fed. Seriously how do you mark me for not putting a comma in when I have a QA marker preceeding it..Obviously I missed a word, the dictator rots, sorry..So instead of adding all that extra crap in..If you had just stuck to what I put, I may have learned something..Instead, my mind is going in 90 directions and I marked it as read and moved on..Waste of my time. Very, very difficulty to listen to her prattle on about the importance of audits and quality when she could not begin to do what I do. I've started trying to understand it. I see lots of software programs out there that supposedly handle this. But if there are multiple programs, how does all the various work put into these programs end up in ONE (!?) place where a persons medical record can be accessed by any medical professional?
