Don’t forget that we had the Christmas holiday that increased the mail volume as well as when the holiday was observed. Some people celebrated Friday December 24, some people Monday December 27, and some people both days. Our mail service was weird; packages sent long distances went quickly and cards sent locally took a week or so. Also, the weather has been slowing things down. There are also the staffing shortages you mentioned. Sending checks through the mail is risky, especially this time of the year, with no way to trace it w/o a tracking number. Contacting your employer is about all you can do, it would be like looking for a needle in the haystack at the post office. Your employer could probably tell you when it was mailed, but a lot can happen between point A and point B.
