It can and likely will happen, I promise you that. I know for a fact because somebody did that to me - twice, as a matter of fact.

It's a crapshoot - do you want justice and this industry regulated, or do you want this job?

Until we are legally reclassified as employees and have some legal protection, right now we have squat, so if your employer gets wind of this by IRS or DOL checking up on them don't be surprised by an email someday.
