I have a couple of ideas:
1) call the place that you bought it from and ask them if they have any suggestions.
2) Try remapping the buttons so as not to use the middle one and make maybe the one that you use for fast forward to be the play button and see if that works. Not sure that would be good long-term for you but I read that others had this problem and it was the middle button on the pedal causing the whole pedal to fail.
