I never under any circumstances give out references until I know or am at least 99% sure that I have the job and that the job sounds like a good fit for me. At the bottom of my resume, I have a line that says, "References available upon request." I never freely give them out, especially not before even having a chance to speak with the company. And yes, seeing a job offering 10 cpl these days is VERY suspect. I haven't seen a pay rate that high since around 2009 or 2010!
