I do this too. You can also tap the foot pedal. Anything to make it seem like the audio or keyboard is active while you are researching, proofing, searching for names in the database, etc.
The question is WHY should we have to trick the system into not measuring something that is a necessary part of the work we do?? Why do we get penalized for pause time that our job requires?? And the worst part is, we don't even get paid for doing all the necessary crap that generates the excess pause time.
It's not even logical. Has been a big pet peeve of mine for a long time.
I even use the arrow keys/foot pedal while DocuCheck is loading. My pause time is miniscule now. It's just so ridiculous.
