I didn't know that the line requirement was different depending on your state's minimum wage and I can't believe this is legal. I copied a link to an article in Wikipedia regarding piece rate pay and some of the abuse associated with it, however it doesn't adress this particular issue. If pressed to change this unfair practice, these companies would most likely lay off workers in the higher minimum wage states--which is probably why it's still going on.
