If the email explicitly states it is a verbal warning and requires a response, they mean it. If you choose to ignore it, they could potentially use that as grounds for termination. I think the question to you is do you want to push the issue? If you live in a state where you would be able to get UE if they fire you, great! If not, it may be time to look for a new job.
