157,000 platelets or 167,000 platelets. - Why is it their word over ours?

I typed 157,000 platelets. They heard 167,000 platelets and just dropped my pay to near-minimum wage in two weeks. That would be hard to hear if the sound quality wasn't the best. Thanks a lot!
