question - is it legal for a company to dock pay - anonMT

Is it legal for a company to deduct payment for an entire report if there is an error in that report, plus an additional added on fee?  No matter the length of the report?  All workers are considered IC status.

IMO, I would think that a company could tell their contractors that they would subtract a percentage of the report, but the entire payment for the report?  Or, perhaps a company should warn someone who repeatedly makes the same sort of error, but IMO a person should be paid for services rendered.

In this situation, the company NEVER does an actual QA review.  They never pull X amount of reports per X period of time and do a percent error review.  They calculate a QA percentage based on how many reports you send to the QA department.  Reports must be sent for more than just leaving blanks for undecipherable dictation or unknown terminology.  Reasons may include demographic issues, a carbon copy not found in the roster, many things not within an MT/VR person's control, and if you send too many reports to QA, you will not receive whatever bonus you may be eligible for.

Out of curiosity, have other people run into this sort of situation often?  I have worked for numerous MTSOs and this is the only company who has ever repeatedly send ultimatums with pay deductions.
