I had a rather unusual financial situation (too long and irrelevant to describe here) about three years ago and went to Wells Fargo and asked to speak to a mortgage banker just to ask questions. He was extremely helpful and accommodating and showed me the pros and cons of what I wanted to do and was just extremely kind. I finally decided, for personal reasons, not to buy the house, but had I wanted to go forward, he was willing to try to help. I know lots of people don't like the big banks, but Wells has always been very helpful and decent to me when I have needed them.
