I use GearPlayer 4 from TranscriptionGear.com. My experience has been pretty good with this player. It can read just about any file type and has good sound controls and lots of other features like audio location markers for blanks, etc. I bought it many years ago, and when I got my new computer last year, they just sent me the link to upgrade to the newest version for free, so apparently the license is permanent, just have to move the dongle to the new computer.
