I'm still confused as to why the pay rate has lowered for VR - I spend as much time on VR

as I do typing, especially with all these foreign doctors on the VR. The rate of pay should be the same. I have yet to find one document that I breezed through because the VR got it right the first time. The VR I have worked on has missed even understandable words as though it didn't hear them. It just left the word out. Making sure all the formatting in the document is correct also takes up my time. So, if someone could tell me why the great inventors of VR thought this would be more productive for me, please enlighten me about this. I really, really would like to know. How fair is it to the transcriptionist to have their pay cut only to spend just as much time in some of these documents as though they had typed them anyway????

They probably sell them on it saying that the transcriptionist wouldn't have to spend as much time on it without testing it themselves with a bonafide transcriptionist.

When I started MT work at straight typing in 2007 I made .11 a line. Then the company went to .08 a line when they renewed the contract with the docs. Then it went to .035 a line with VR. There are some reports where the docs are clear and there is almost nothing to do, but MOST of them need heavy editing because they want words changed, they spell out words and it messes with the report, they have accents the VR can't catch. Five hours of typing a day and I make about $55. Wow. The co. I work for is hinting that they are taking on a new client and they will pay LESS than .035. How low can we go?????

We started doing heavy VR work in the last two weeks. You'd think they could pay us full line rate while the system is being trained, but no. I compared a report I did on the same patient from the previous month, one of those copy and paste jobbies. VR took me 5 minutes longer for the same amount of lines, and I made half as much money than if I'd started from scratch.

VR sure doesn't seem to be a win/win situation.

because people are scared to quit or lose their current job in this recession. Because for some it was always a way to earn "extra" money and they may be unhappy but won't fight lowered rates. Also because a lot of very low-pay people entered this field satisfied to continue that way working (or "working") from home. It all comes down to a situation where there are much stronger pressures from the client side to lower costs than there are from our side to refuse to absorb them.

I also wonder how much of a paycut the MTSO have actually taken, with our cut being, nm - so drastic

C'mon,you don't really think the MTSO big shots have taken any pay cuts, do ya?!?!?! The reason they lower OUR pay is so that they can take more for THEMSELVES. It's the American Way, and just too darn bad for us slugs at the bottom of the heap. Can't believe some of you folks have not figured this out.

Exactly...MTSO charges the client the same cpl and then cuts our pay and tells us that we are "editing" so it is worth less. Win-win situation for them, starve-die situation for us.

I have had my own accounts for the past 10 years and just recently decided to take a job with a company editing. I am very unhappy with it and am thinking of going back to just having my own accounts. Much better pay that way.

The answer is simple; we are "training" the VR software for PC programs to evolve! First we lose our jobs to outsourcing, then add insult to injury by forcing us to IMPROVE VR by paying us LESS to "educate" their VR software by our corrections, which undoubtedly go into improving the very technology which will make ALL OUR JOBS OBSOLETE SOON ENOUGH. The writing is on the wall, or in this case, the PC screen, ladies! OF COURSE IT TAKES AS MUCH TIME OR LONGER TO FIX THE VR THAN ACTUAL TRANSCRIBING - WE ARE THE ONES IMPROVING IT FOR HOSPITALS WHO CHOSE TO SINGLE OUT TRANSCRIBERS AS now IC's instead of Full Time employees - THE PERFECT WAY TO SAVE MONEY (INSTEAD OF SCRUTINIZING ALL HOSPITAL DEPARTMENTS FOR COST-OVERRUNS, ETC) SO THAT THEY NO LONGER HAVE TO PROVIDE BENEFITS, PTO, VACATION, ETC. Transcriptionists were given THE SHAFT by the very MD's who so desperately needed our help for decades by loyal hard-working women who did not deserve the way this career/skill-set is now headed - a gladly relegated expendable in the near future.

Isn't that the truth? I've spent the last 4 months basically perfecting the documents so the VR can get them right. But, oh, in the meantime, I've taken this huge pay cut to get that done. Nothing like doing all the work for the system and getting screwed while doing it! What a racket!! You, my friend, see the writing on the screen just like I do. It's just a matter of time.

Certainly nothing new to be confused over QA, but this one is really confusing me. Perhaps I missed the memo. I had mL changed to cc by QA. Yes, dictator stated cc, but I surely do remember being told to use mL instead so why was it changed to cc....not sure. The other change was 12 mm changed to 12-mm. OK I get NJA, change Schedule Source to work availability, then I get a job 10 minutes into it, now what? I know I don't get paid for 10 minutes of NJA/work availability. Clock out and back in under production? Will I get in trouble for the 10 minutes of work availability? Then if I get NJA again, clock back out of production and back into work availability and SEE if it goes the full 15 minutes??????????? I need a tutorial on this I guess. Any suggestion ...

You have to punch out of production to change to "work availability" and I was under the impression you can't type while in "work availability" so you have to clock out and back in under "production" if you get a job during that 15 minute wait period. Would you take an insurance transcription job at WorldWide Transcription that pays .06 per line, has lots of work, and offers a M-F schedule. The only con I can find is that they mail paper checks, instead of direct deposit. Or would you take a transcription job with Integrity HD. I am just venting!!! Somewhere along the line I guess I misunderstood the whole concept behind VR. I have a real hard time understanding why a bunch of words, many that don't make any sense or even sound like what is dictated, in no type of formatting constitutes a report; VR dictation that needs to be restructured and pretty much retyped but yet I get paid less and required to do it faster than a real "typed" report. Does BayScribe only count the total time you're actually 'in' reports as the time that's weighed against your server time? In other words, when you're logged into Bayscribe's main menu and not actually transcribing a report, those minutes aren't being added in, are they? I hope I'm not confusing you guys! OK....just to be sure I understand this.....if I am an IC, do I deduct approximately 15% (like what my previous employer deducted for SS and Medicare) OR do I deduct 30% for my part and employer part?
