NJA --- I am so confused - anon

Posted: Dec 27, 2011

OK I get NJA, change Schedule Source to work availability, then I get a job 10 minutes into it, now what?  I know I don't get paid for 10 minutes of NJA/work availability.  Clock out and back in under production?  Will I get in trouble for the 10 minutes of work availability?  Then if I get NJA again, clock back out of production and back into work availability and SEE if it goes the full 15 minutes???????????  I need a tutorial on this I guess.  Any suggestions?

Here is what I do.. - Just me

[ In Reply To ..]
When I get NJA I write down the time. If a job comes 10 minutes or any time during my "15" minute wait. I do the job and then start timing NJA again for 5 more minutes. Then I do make the time clock reflect a total of 15 minute wait to get paid the work availability rate for the wait. I amend the beginning or end of time punched in.
Ex: NJA from 8:00 to 8:10
Job comes in at 8:11 - do job until 8:25
NJA 8:25 to 8:30.

Time clock:
8:00 to 8:15 -production
8:16 to 8:31 - NJA.

I have always done this and never had any issues with the Q higher ups.

That is not right - You are supposed to wait 15 minutes for a job

[ In Reply To ..]
If you receive a job within that 15 minutes, then you waited the required amount of time, and therefore you don't get "credit" for the 10 minutes you did wait. I wouldn't follow that advice. I would ask my CCM. That sounds like a way to manipulate the system to me. I mean, come on, its only 15 minutes we get paid for. Why work that hard to get 15 minutes?

Don't put in Work Availability until you have been out of work for 15 minutes or more. Anything less than 15 minutes doesn't count. That way you won't have to worry about punching in and out and such. Just keep it simple. Hope this helps.

wait a minute... you guys stay punched in for 15 - minutes? sm

I thought we were supposed to log off DQS and Schedule Source, wait 15, punch back into Scchedule Source, punch back into DQS, and if there is no work still, then fill out ticket.

If you stay logged into DQS, then your time sheets do not match the DQS time.

According to the policy - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
If a “No Jobs Available” message is received by the employee, the employee waits 15 minutes to determine if there is no work available or if work begins routing, then:

If after 15 minutes, the Employee continues to receive the “No Jobs Available” message, the following steps must be taken: (and then it gives you choices of making up the time, taking PTO or leaving without pay).

To the original poster, again, check with your CCM. But I have never been told to punch out, and then wait 15 minutes. If you punch out, try to add work availability, and then 10 minutes into the 15-minute wait you get a job (like happened to you), then you have to change the work type, punch back in again, and when you finish that job, do it all over again. You could do that for an hour if you are only getting a job every 10 minutes, punching in and out several times!
This is - typical MQ
[ In Reply To ..]
clusterfuQ. Each CCM interprets it his/her own way and nobody really knows what is going on. I always log out of TW and stay logged onto the system. If there are no jobs in 15 minutes, I put in a Q-Care ticket. If a job pops up before 15 minutes, I log back onto TW. Never had a problem over it.
But you have to be logged in under work - availability
[ In Reply To ..]
and if a job comes up in the 15 minute period, you clock out and back in???? Then you type that job and nothing, so you go to work availability and then a job comes along 9 minutes later and you clock out and back in under production???
No, I dont log in under - work availability
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't even know what that is! If I get NJA, I immediately time out of TW, but stay logged onto DQS. After 15 minutes, if no job comes in, I log out of DQS and send in a Q-Care ticket. I've been here forever and have never heard of having to be on work availability. See how sQrewed this company is?
For my CCM you have to be logged in under - no name
[ In Reply To ..]
"work availability" not "production" for EXACTLY 15 minutes, not 14 or 16, and then leave an alert with the Q care ticket number. That is why I hardly ever do it, but work has been so slow and I wanted Friday off and get PTO and not have to keep checking back, etc.
yes, I know that is policy - but
[ In Reply To ..]
The policy does not say whether to stay punched in or punch out. I was told never to stay punched in as the times will not match, and I will get written up for that.

If you stay punched in, and after 12 minutes a job comes up, then you do it, then there is no work again, you wait another 10 or so this time, then a job comes in, then you wait again, after 13 minutes a job comes in, you have now spent 35 minutes of time logged in and not working. This also affects your PTO pay and LPH. This cannot be accurate. Plus, you never get paid to sit there each of those times. That is not legal.
The policy is confusing to say the least - Just me
[ In Reply To ..]
As you state, if you stay punched in to TW the whole time you are affecting your LPH and PTO. That is why I calculate the 15 minute wait and change the punch in TW from Production to Work Availability. I feel that if we were not supposed to change our punches and such then they never would have given us the ability to do so.

I DO NOT cheat MQ in any way, but if they force us to wait 15 minutes before being released from the shift, then I will wait 15 minutes total and no more.

Also after this initial 15 minutes is done, then if I have chosen to make up time, I continue to check for work and my TW punches and logging in to DSQ all match for the rest of my shift. In other words, if I work for 1 hour and then get NJA again, I puch out of TW and off DSQ and then punch in t both only when work is available.
Also I put the exact wait time/times - Just me
[ In Reply To ..]
on my QCare ticket in the comment box.

Example:

8:00 to 8:09 and 8:25 to 8:31 = total wait time of 15 minutes.

As I stated I have never been approached or called about this and I feel its the only fair way to do it.
That is my dilemma -- punching in and out and - in and out
[ In Reply To ..]
production, work availability, back to production, back to work availability, etc. My timesheet looks ridiculous. Usually I just wait in DocQScribe and a job will come along, but work is really slow and I have actually had to do the 15 minutes and care ticket. There should be a better way.

LOL - I bet you are glad you asked the question - on this board

[ In Reply To ..]
You are probably more confused than ever.

Punch In. Punch Out. Punch In, Punch Out. - Punch in. Punch Out. LOL

[ In Reply To ..]
Ridiculous. Wait 15 minutes. Punch out if there is no work. If you get more work later, punch back in. When you are done, punch back out.

All that punching in and punching out, and writing it down so you get exactly 15 minutes is ridiculous.

LOL

Apparently you didnt read it all - Just me

[ In Reply To ..]
Its not about "getting" 15 minutes, its about getting paid for and then released from your shift for the 15 minutes they require us to wait for work.

You example works only if there is no work in the entire 15 minutes, if a job pops up after 10 minutes then what? You type it and start your wait over? That is ridiculous!!

I'M SOO CONFUSED!

Certainly nothing new to be confused over QA, but this one is really confusing me.  Perhaps I missed the memo.  I had mL changed to cc by QA.  Yes, dictator stated cc, but I surely do remember being told to use mL instead so why was it changed to cc....not sure.  The other change was 12 mm changed to 12-mm.  Confused by this one as well.....that's my typing vent for the day!  Thanks for listening : ) ...

Dec 29, 2011

the posters were as well.  You have to punch out of production to change to "work availability" and I was under the impression you can't type while in "work availability" so you have to clock out and back in under "production" if you get a job during that 15 minute wait period.  I am in agreement that it is ridiculous, but if I think the whole day is going to be slow I just want to wait the required 15 minutes and be RELEASED for the rest of my shift, however, it is so confu ...

I am just venting!!!  Somewhere along the line I guess I misunderstood the whole concept behind VR.  I have a real hard time understanding why a bunch of words, many that don't make any sense or even sound like what is dictated, in no type of formatting constitutes a report; VR dictation that needs to be restructured and pretty much retyped but yet I get paid less and required to do it faster than a real "typed" report.  My research on VR is #1 the dictator has to b ...
