Moving lengthy Autocorrects between computers - Shelley

Posted: Jul 23, 2011

I have run into this problem every time I have to switch to a new/different computer.  In Office 2003 I save autocorrect entires with the first four initials of the docs last name containing their usual physical exam spiel or sometimes a sample of their entire report.  There seems to be no limit to how many autocorrects can be saved or how long the save can be.  The problem comes when trying to move them to a new computer.  Does anyone have experience with this problem that could share how they manage to quickly and efficiently get the job done.  Office 2003 lets you backup and restore, but Autocorrect is not designed for such long entries and it's hard to explain, but the entires do not backup or restore properly.  Any help would be appreciated!

entries with paragraph marks. The easiest way to move your plain text entries is to add an entry, then search your hard drive for *.acl files. The file with the date you made the last entry is the file you want. Just copy/paste it to the correct folder path on the second computer. You can find that by adding an entry and following the same steps. If you ticked the formatted text option when creating entries, those are stored in the normal.dot file.

Your Lengthy Psychology Question
Aug 02, 2010

Now I can't even find the words for what I want to ask. I just want to talk about how your (editorial "your") confidence level has been affected by doing transcription. When I started doing this in 1990, I sort of thought transcription was "beneath" me, or I was over-qualified, and that it was a temporary job. Then I started noticing many of my (also very qualified) older coworkers who had been in the field many years, actually wanted to try something else, but ultimately see ...

Plan B: Job Ideas That Don't Require Lengthy Training
Jan 27, 2012

Before all the Debbie Downers and Eeyores come out of the woodwork, let me preface these 2 ideas with:  These will not appeal -- or even be possible due to family commitments -- to all.  BUT they will be viable solutions for some.  Both are in the medical field and do not require extensive training.  1.  EKG monitor tech.  Requires just 8-10 weeks of training.  A quick check of pay for my region shows $17.65-$25.53 per hour, which is in keeping with what my em ...

Moving On.........
May 27, 2011

I'm not very happy with my current company due to the loss of several benefits, cost of living pay, etc. and thought about checking out some larger companies, but after reading posts for a lot of major companies, I think I'll stay where I am. At least I have work 90% of the time and I'm paid 8 to 9 cents per line. The grass isn't always greener. :)   ...

Hey out there in the wonderful world of MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION.  I am considering a change of scenery, wanting to jump ship and switch to another MTSO.....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Surely, there are some happy medical language specialists out there who enjoy their work and their accounts....can you share some ideas with me?  Thanks in advance for any information you can share.      ...

? Re Computers
Mar 17, 2011

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could assist me in a little project I'm working on.  I'm compiling a list for someone of the companies that provide you with a computer for doing transcription on. Not asking anybody to do the work for me, but if you would like to share the name of a company who does this, I'd appreciate the info. Thanks and have a great day.     ...

Moving Practice To EMR.
Dec 22, 2009

I received a call today from a doctor that I know.  His practice is switching over to EMR, and he wants someone to coordinate that transition.  New patients are easily entered into the system, but he has a temporary need to get the old records into the EMR system.  His office staff is too busy to add this big job to their workload, and I think he correctly determined that he needs someone who can read the old office records, understand them, and then extract the info that needs to ...

Moving On From Transcription...what To Do?
Jun 23, 2010

I really want to move onto something else..I'm just burned out.  My arms and hands are constantly sore and aching.  I've been doing this for about 14 years.  I'm not paid enough and I just can't concentrate like I used to (very easily distracted...adhd??) With the kids at home for the summer (3 of them), it's just so difficult to work all day with them here. Anyhow, I finally finished my bachelors in Sociology, I have all these medical terminology experie ...

FIRED FOR MOVING
Sep 02, 2010

I was recently fired from my MT position because I moved to a different state. I was a full-time employee. I was never informed of such a policy and had actually moved to this state a few years ago when working with the same company. This was apparently a new policy they had come up several months ago. The kicker is that I informed my supervisor of my move and even provided my address and nothing was said until I moved. ...

Moving From DQS To BeyondTx
Feb 18, 2011

I have been using DQS with 2 different companies for a 10 years.  Now I am considering moving to company who is developing a special pediatric division and I have been told a number of former MQers have made this change.  Is there anybody happy with making the jump from DQS to BeyondTx?  I am not asking about the change from one company to another, just the software change.  I left MQ a while back for another company who uses DQS and they have been great.  But I miss ped ...

Moving On After SoftScript
Feb 07, 2013

I, too, was one of the "account specific victims" at SoftScript.  I was fired for a QA score of 90%.  This score was from 100% account specific errors (same error over and over in four different reports).  Rather than counting one formatting or specific error, they dinged me over and over, making my QA score 90.4%.   My question is, when applying for future jobs, if they call SS for a reference, will they tell them that my QA score was that low?  I have never in my 20 y ...

Moving On To A Non-MT Job Opportunity
Apr 30, 2015

I am pleased to say I have found an open door to a job opportunity that is outside of MT work.  It is a job that will utilize my experience in healthcare and my medical terminology.  A very nice pay increase, regular holidays off with pay, and vacation and sick time. No weekend work. Most importantly, a new skill set that makes my more marketable opening up more future opportunities as well. I hope this encourages some of you to see what is out there.  Submitting a resume or filli ...

Not To Smart With Computers
Jan 08, 2011

Hi all, I purchased a new computer over Christmas with a very large screen due to having poor eyesight.  Everything seems fine until I get into ChartScript, where everything is so very, very small.  It is worse than with my smaller screen.  I have to literally stand up and put my nose to the screen to make sure I have correct patient info in the demographics, etc.  Any suggestions?  Is there something on the screen itself I can adjust, or do you think it is within ChartS ...

Laptop Computers

For Those Whose MQ Computers Are Slowed By
Apr 17, 2011

(Moderator - please do not move to tech forum as this is a Medquist problem with Kapersky anti-virus program)   I spent several hours this past week trying to install Kapersky, and it would not install, so I called tech support and ended up escalating the problem to "Systems Administrator."  She called back and remotely went into my MQ computer and installed the program.  While I was on the phone with her, I told her that others were having a problem with Kapersky slowing down ...

For Those Of You Who Use Your Own Computers To Work On........
Apr 30, 2011

How do you go about this?  Do you have to call tech and get permission?  Or just download DQS, etc?  I was hoping to use my own computer, which is a much more powerful computer than this outdate POS I have from MQ; I think it's the reason I have so many probs in DQS--the worst being the lag in typing....I have to constantly wait for what I have typed to "catch up" with me.......so annoying.  Not to mention takes forever to upload a job, etc. But wondering if we are tec ...

I Am So Sick Of Computers!
Oct 27, 2011

I know all the techies out there will say I must "get with the times", but I absolutely hate computers!  It isn't enough that you have to learn a new platform for each and every company you work for, but they think you should know all the regular "computer stuff" as well.  I don't use my computer for anything except work, email, and to look things up because I don't want to-- but everybody expects you to be a computer expert today, like it or not.  If they didn' ...

Fiesa And XP Computers, Etc
Apr 04, 2014

Everyone acts like it's all something new not to be provided a computer.  As a former recruiter, let me tell you that 98% of equipment sent out was not returned and this very expensive for any company.  It's not Nuance's fault XP will no longer be protected.  There is no reason to go in debt for a new computer when you can easily buy one for less than 200, and remember it's all tax deductible and they have the loan plan if you meet the qualifications. Gradual Moving To India???

This is probably rumor mill, hopefully.  However, I just came across something via Google and wanted to check it with those of you who have been around MQ longer than a couple of weeks.  I just read a blip that said MQ has been slowly raising demands and lowering pay because they are gradually moving all MT business to the outsource venues in India.  Any comments??
