New computers - old and burned out

Posted: Dec 08, 2011

Has everyone who needs a new computer gotten it yet?

No, why do you think they delayed 7.0? - North MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I think they were overwhelmed at how many computers did not meet specifications. I got my "new" computer in April or May and I still am on the list for a new one because it is not even half the memory it needs to be for this new glorious Docuscribe upgrade. All they ever did was recycle old computers from those who quit and pass them out as "new."

As I stated below all new hires are now required to provide their own equipment. It is obvious that MQ is trying to get out of the equipment business but they are stuck with us current employees and our old computers. I bet it burns them that nobody's equipment is where it needs to be and they have to fork out some serious dough for an upgrade that may or may not work. Remember 6.1? What a fiasco. Guess that is what you get when you cut the IT department. Karma stinks.

Delays - old and burned out

I did not see the delay of 7.0 but MQ has never done anything that was not delayed several times including all their "go lives." From my understanding even many tech firms used refurbished computers and that is not necessarily the problem although cheapness certainly is.

laziness too - North MT

[ In Reply To ..]
No, refurbished computers are not the problem, but you know very well the tech people knew 6 months ago that 7.0 would be rolling out soon and the computers they sent back out were not even close to the specifications required. I still have MT Shell on my desktop! They could have and should have started upgrading the refurbished computers and it is just laziness in my opinion that led us to this point. I think in many cases they didn't do anything to the hard drives and just repackaged them and sent them on.

In any case, I am thrilled about the delay. I just don't know if I can handle another rah-rah about how this will increase our productivity and then on the back end watch as our pay gets cut again. A delay past Christmas would be enough present for me.
Probably not the tech people - OABO

Techies were probably told by management to just send out whatever they had. In my in-office experience, the tech people were treated just as badly as we were and felt the same about MQ as we did.

My cousin just got hired and she got a MQ - ??

NEW COMPUTER - Nature

[ In Reply To ..]
I just sent an e-mail to my supervisor telling her I had not received my new computer. It was only a week ago I found out that I needed a new one when she sent out the stats that our old computer should have, and my did not pass, so she said she would see that I got a new one.

RE: NEW COMPUTER - Nature

I just heard from my supervisor stating not to worry, as things have been delayed until the 18th.

New computer?? - old-timer

[ In Reply To ..]
I too received that e-mail asking about computer specs. My computer had 512 mb of memory, and I personally added another 512 mb because it was so slow and kept shutting docqscribe down. Still at 1 gb, it was below the said recommended minimum of 2 gb. First tech support called and said I would be getting a new machine in a couple of weeks, but yesterday I received an e-mail saying it met the minimal standards. WHAT!?!?!?! It is a piece of crap computer, and I know it cannot handle another upgrade of docqscribe. I really think they are just trying to pi** me off and get me to quit.

same situation here - L&L

[ In Reply To ..]
Told my CCM my specs on my MQ computer, she said I needed a new one and notified Tech. Then I got a note from her saying Tech said it would work fine. Then I got an email from Tech wanting me to fill out (yet another) survey on how well they handled my problem (like, not at all). It's gonna be interesting.

NEW COMPUTER - Nature

I did NOT want a new computer. I think this one should be fine. They sent it to me less than 2 years ago. I have had no problems with it. I want to keep it. I have plenty of RAM, but she said it did not meet the specs. I almost cried. I don't want to lose my favorites, short cuts, or anything else I have saved on this computer. I think the best computers are Intel. I do not like Del computers.
keeping mine in the box - North MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Mine works fine too, sent about 6 months ago, but unfortunately like you didn't meet the specs either. Until I actually hear that we are going live on Docuscribe 7.0 I will unpack that bad new boy, but otherwise it is staying in the box (or until tech gets their panties in a wad and wants the old computer back). I know the start date is pushed back at least a week, but it may get delayed even further. Only the Medquist brain trust would do an upgrade and try to ship computers to most everyone during the holiday season. At least it will give me time to make a list of my favorites to make transitioning to the "new" computer a little easier.

Hey, at least they are providing a computer, they could have told us we are SOL and to go buy our own computer that matches the new specs.
New computer and favorites, etc. - colorado

All you have to do is export your favorites--bookmarks, feeds, cookies, etc. to an external source (flash drive, for example) and then import them back on your new computer. You should be able to find it somewhere in your Favorites menu (where you would find things like Organized Favorites).
favorites and transferring information - rethinking career
[ In Reply To ..]
You can transfer your favs to a new computer without much hastle if you have a thumb drive. Just google "how to transfer favorites to a new computer" or how to transfer email to a new computer, or whatever you need to transfer, this is really not too big of a deal and shouldn't be a reason not to look at a new computer.

And none of these computers are the same, I happen to have an HP, my friend had a Gateway, now has a Dell, they are all different, I would suspect the purchased them or acquired them as they acquired smaller MT companies.

memory added - rethinking career

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm surprised they let you upgrade the memory in your computer. I wanted to add a wireless card to mine and I was told by tech support that if I opened the case to my computer it would void my user agreement and I'd have to purchase the MQ computer.

Oops! I didn't ask...I just did it. I did, however, ask them for a new computer first after outlining the problems I was having. If they give me any hassle, I will just pop it out, and then it will be in its original state.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could assist me in a little project I'm working on.  I'm compiling a list for someone of the companies that provide you with a computer for doing transcription on. Not asking anybody to do the work for me, but if you would like to share the name of a company who does this, I'd appreciate the info. Thanks and have a great day.     ...

Not To Smart With Computers
Jan 08, 2011

Hi all, I purchased a new computer over Christmas with a very large screen due to having poor eyesight.  Everything seems fine until I get into ChartScript, where everything is so very, very small.  It is worse than with my smaller screen.  I have to literally stand up and put my nose to the screen to make sure I have correct patient info in the demographics, etc.  Any suggestions?  Is there something on the screen itself I can adjust, or do you think it is within ChartS ...

Laptop Computers
Feb 06, 2011

Just wondering if anybody who uses their own computer to do MT uses a laptop?  I've had some problems with my computer and now need to take it in for repairs again, and I was considering getting a laptop as a backup so that I would still be able to work while my desk top computer is out of service.  Any advice on what type of laptop to get?  Thanks much. ...

For Those Whose MQ Computers Are Slowed By
Apr 17, 2011

(Moderator - please do not move to tech forum as this is a Medquist problem with Kapersky anti-virus program)   I spent several hours this past week trying to install Kapersky, and it would not install, so I called tech support and ended up escalating the problem to "Systems Administrator."  She called back and remotely went into my MQ computer and installed the program.  While I was on the phone with her, I told her that others were having a problem with Kapersky slowing down ...

How do you go about this?  Do you have to call tech and get permission?  Or just download DQS, etc?  I was hoping to use my own computer, which is a much more powerful computer than this outdate POS I have from MQ; I think it's the reason I have so many probs in DQS--the worst being the lag in typing....I have to constantly wait for what I have typed to "catch up" with me.......so annoying.  Not to mention takes forever to upload a job, etc. But wondering if we are tec ...

I Am So Sick Of Computers!
Oct 27, 2011

I know all the techies out there will say I must "get with the times", but I absolutely hate computers!  It isn't enough that you have to learn a new platform for each and every company you work for, but they think you should know all the regular "computer stuff" as well.  I don't use my computer for anything except work, email, and to look things up because I don't want to-- but everybody expects you to be a computer expert today, like it or not.  If they didn' ...

Fiesa And XP Computers, Etc
Apr 04, 2014

Everyone acts like it's all something new not to be provided a computer.  As a former recruiter, let me tell you that 98% of equipment sent out was not returned and this very expensive for any company.  It's not Nuance's fault XP will no longer be protected.  There is no reason to go in debt for a new computer when you can easily buy one for less than 200, and remember it's all tax deductible and they have the loan plan if you meet the qualifications.
