Learning curve from Bayscribe To BeyondTxt - transgal

Posted: Apr 12, 2011

Can anyone tell me how difficult or easy the transition was between Bayscribe and BeyondText (on the same account) and whether the volume of work suffered as a result?  Thanks!

I thought the transition to BeyondTXT was pretty easy especially if you have an opportunity to work on secondary accounts that are already on that platform. I actually liked BeyondTXT and thought my lph bumped up a little when my account transitioned over. However, after the first 30 days, it all goes to VR and that is when I decided to leave. But that is another story. Good luck.

Our team was trained--and then they put off the conversion for something like 2 weeks, so the day we went live, I spent the first hour or so scratching my head and staring at the screen, and fumbling through my training manual.

By the end of day 3 I was producing faster. A lot faster, in fact, than on the old platform.

I hate change, so I had a "melt down" at - first. I was totally SM

overwhelmed. I had worked on Bayscribe for years, was happy at my job, and was totally out of the loop as to what was going on in the MT world as far as VR, different platforms, etc., etc. I did not read here at all. I was being paid very well, straight transcription. BOOM, told my company is being sold to one of the biggies, and all (*&^ broke loose in my world. M-Modal? What is that? Came here and got quite an education. My account switched very quickly, manual was pages and pages, training was a joke. My problem was I did not understand the basics. I am also the kind of person who cannot grasp something simply by reading, especially page after page after page. My mind just glazed over. I have to actually do it to learn it. With the right trainer, it might have been easier. The trainer might have been overworked and underpaid, typical. I would ask a question, not understand the answer. Ask another question to clarify, same deal. I compared it to asking a computer geek a question and getting an answer that is full of "geek speak", completely over your head. What saved me was hooking up with co-workers on instant messaging. One in particular had a much better grasp of things, and she explained it in a way I could understand. Once I got it, it all fell into place. There are a few people on this board who are very helpful and can explain things in a way you can understand. Crankybroad is one of them. I remember her answering some of my questions here. You might have a better grasp of all of it than I did and it won't be as difficult for you. :) I could probably answer some of your questions if you run into problems in the future.

??How long do you give yourself when you start a new company to be up to snuff!  I don't know if it's because I'm a senior MT (not unlike a senior dog you try to train) and I just am having a real hard time with the making any money.  I hate demographics that waste my time and there are a lot of them.  Also a lot of new types of work I haven't done in years. Need advice because I'm not even making minimum wage.  It's just been a month - but I fee ...

How long would you give yourself to be "trained" on an account. The company I work for has us switching all over the place and I cannot get proficient on one work type. Been there three months and barely averaging $8.00 an hour when I'm stuck on that work type. Any advice. I am thinking of jumping ship....... ...

Learning Curve Time From DQS Version 2.x To 7.x?
Feb 02, 2013

Hi, I work for another company that uses M*M's DQS platform.  We're on version I think 2.0.2.0 or something, but some 2.x version for sure anyway.  They're going to upgrade us to 7.x (I assume 7.2) soon, and our boss says we'll have 1 day to get our line counts back up to normal, because all of the old key combinations work the same and nothing will really change except the onscreen appearance.  Is that realistic?  We get penalized severely if our lines ...

Comfort Curve 2000 Keeps Disconnecting!!
Sep 24, 2010

All day today I've been having a problem with my keyboard disconnecting.  When I remove/replace the plug, it'll reconnect for a little while, sometimes good for hours, sometimes only a few seconds.  I know it's not the USB outlet because I've tried them all w/the keyboard and it still happens.  I did update the driver and the optional windows update for it but it didn't make a difference.  I've also hooked it up to another computer and it doesn&# ...

Transcend/beyondTXT
Nov 24, 2009

Can anyone give me any insight to the BeyondText VR platform at Transcend.  I have been offered a position that pays slightly less than my current company for VR.  The recruiter assured me this VR platform was super easy (but that is her job), so what does somebody who has actually worked on it think?  Can anyone compare its ease of use with Enterprise?  Thanks ...

Going From BeyondTXT To Emdat?
Oct 19, 2014

Hopefully leaving Nuance this week! Going to a company with Emdat as an IC.  I have to pretty much train myself on this (as I expected, being an IC) and so far it seems very similar to the older BeyondTXT.  A lot of the keyboard commands are the same as  BeyondTXT before we were switched to the newer (worse) eBeyondTXT.  Can anyone tell me how user friendly it ends up being?   ...

Comparing Escript To BeyondTxt
Jan 05, 2010

I just started BeyondTxt so I am still new and getting used to the platform but when I worked Escript it was a big $$ maker for me. I'm finding that BeyondTxt does not pick up things like Escript did and a lot has to be redone, sometimes keeping only 1-2 lines of text and having to redo the whole rest of the report for only editing pay. I NEVER had to do this on Escript.  It leaves off words and paragraphs and does not pick up very clear speach. Am I not giving it enough of a chance? I ...

Used To Love Editing, Then I Tried BeyondTxt
Jan 28, 2010

I am dying to go back to working with Editscript where I made good money.  I can't do BeyondTxt.  You can't go 2 sentences without running into at least 1 edit and that is being generous becuase it is usually multiple edits in every sentence.  It has no idea where to put commas.  They either have to be deleted or added.  It doesn't learn specs.  Doesn't know how to use hyphens and adds them to everything.  What is spoken clear as a whistle c ...

I Have A Question For CrankyOldBroad Regarding BeyondTXT
Feb 21, 2010

I worked on DEP before too and heard that we will be switching to voice recognition before the end of the year also.  My question is regarding the headings and how they rearrange things on the back end so that we don't have to worry about formatting.  When I worked on DEP, it more or less did that also.  Our headings were already preinserted and we didn't have to edit them or type verbatim with the headings.  They did the same thing for the canned sections of the re ...

BeyondTXT Platform TERRIBLE
Oct 17, 2012

I felt that I had to let MTs know some information about the BeyondTXT platform.... I have been an acute care MT for 30 years and I recently went with Transcend/Nuance using the above platform. For example, compared to some other programs like DocuMed, Dictaphone, etc., it is absolutely the worst and most unfriendly program I have ever trained or worked on. It is not all-in-one area.  Your work pool is in one area and the document is in another, plus the demographic screens are all over t ...

Account At Trascend Moving To BeyondTXT

Editing VR In BeyondTxt Has Made Me Severely Depressed.
May 02, 2010

I have never felt more worthless in my life.  I work for about half the pay, it takes longer to do because the drafts are so awful.  You get marked down if you don't use shortcut keys to navigate or whatever and the object is to keep you fingers on the keyboard, but you cannot keep them in the position you need to for transcribing or fixing all the problems.   I find my right hand is always on the control+delete key or end key, and my fingers constantly on the period or ...

VR Learning
Aug 05, 2011

In a training on EditScript today, we were told in editing a report to change the whole word that is wrong, not just change on letter, for example, if it puts sever and the word is supposed to be severe, to change the whole word, not just add the e.  The trainer said that the system learns better that way.  So my question is, and I would have asked her if I had thought of it at the time, does VR learn when we use word expansions.  Is it learning from the keystrokes we use or from ...

Learning A New Field

What would be the best way to get into another field? I Hate Learning This Way
Apr 01, 2010

I wish somebody would figure out a way to train new hires other than setting them down with only a few hours training and letting them type their entire shift without a word from anyone, only to have QA come in the next morning and correct all the reports. I hate learning this way, I do something wrong, spell something about the facility wrong, all night long only to learn the next day that it is wrong. It is such a waste of my and my QAs time to do it this way, it sucks. And heaven forbid you h ...

Learning Coding

Is there any coder out there who has 'self-taught' themselves and successfully passed the CCS and working?  I'm an MT whose so ready to change to coding, but keep putting it off schooling due to being financially strapped (as MT'ing just barely pays the simple bills.....nothing more).  I also think being an MT will put me at an advantage in learning coding than someone 'off the street'/no knowledge of any facet of the medical field.  Any thoughts? ...
