I have a question for CrankyOldBroad regarding BeyondTXT - worried about VR

Posted: Feb 21, 2010

I worked on DEP before too and heard that we will be switching to voice recognition before the end of the year also.  My question is regarding the headings and how they rearrange things on the back end so that we don't have to worry about formatting.  When I worked on DEP, it more or less did that also.  Our headings were already preinserted and we didn't have to edit them or type verbatim with the headings.  They did the same thing for the canned sections of the reports, like OPs, when the dictator would say use my standard report or use my template...something on that order.  We would have to fill in right, left; he, she, etc.  We didn't have to edit a lot, but we had to read the whole report 100% to carefully hear for any discrepancies or errors or add anything in they wanted in the report.

When we heard about that we thought it would be really cool and save us a lot of time and energy, but then after we started doing it we found out that we weren't getting paid for any of the text that we did not have to edit.  It was bad enough editing at 0.035 cpl, but then to find out that we were only paid for possibly 10 or 12 lines out of a 60-line canned OP report was sickening.  Needless to say, I left that company in hurry.  But now I'm hearing almost the same thing about BeyondTXT.  Are we paid for EVERYTHING in that report, headings and canned, or just the text we actually have to fix?

excellent question; I await answer too. - no message.

Actually, I don't know the answer to that. - CrankyOldBroadOnTheBeach

The accounts that I worked on DEP were all over the place as far as headings; different dictators used different versions of headings, and very little of it was pre-templated, so I just started copying and pasting from Word documents that I had created with samples of their preferences. And they didn't have the back end sufficiently rigged that we could rely on that; we did have to remember who wanted their text to start where.

Now... As far as whether Transcend pays for what you describe... again, my accounts have not yet gone to speech wreck, so I honestly do not know about that.

I DO know, however, that with the few "canned" reports we do have on my main account (cataract surgeries being the biggie), we DO get paid for EVERY CHARACTER that uploads from our computer, regardless of whether we were the one that typed it or not. I scored 4 of those in a row the other day, and they're practically freebies, with just the left or right eye and the number of diopters for the lens.

And... despite the horror stories I heard to the contrary before I switched platforms, we DO get paid for demographics. I really, really got spanked here on the board some time back for insisting that I WAS being paid for demographics by Transcend. People kept insisting I was mistaken. But I actually took the time, once or twice, to not only copy and paste the text of several reports into Word and count them there (number of characters including spaces, divided by 65) I also laboriously counted the number of characters in all of the user-editable fields in the demographic screen. When I added those numbers together, it actually came to within a tenth of a line of what the software counted for me (which is the actual number I get paid for).

I have NOT seen my line counts drop AT ALL in BeyondTXT; if anything, my average daily production has gone up a bit, probably because of the bits that are easier to do on this platform (and thus less time-consuming).

For a definitive answer, I will send an e-mail to a couple of my "suit" contacts and ask them to weigh in on your original question. But in one of the conference calls I attended a few months back, one of the "suits" (don't remember which one) said they do pay for spaces, they do pay for demographics, they constantly do internal audits to make sure everything is working right and people are getting paid what they're supposed to be paid, and because they are one of the largest companies, they are frequently audited by external entities as well. (What external entities those might be, I did not ask, and do not know.)

And, thus far, every single thing I've been told by a "suit" has been good as gold. I have yet to catch any one of them in a lie or a misrepresentation. As always, this is my personal experience alone, and others' mileage may vary.

You're paid for everything in the report, inserts and all. - Another BeyondText MLS who loves her job.

Yes, there are those that are very happy at Transcend!

Thanks for your reply... now I don't have to bother "the suits" - CrankyOldBroadOnTheBeach

I'd love to lose my apprehension about what the future brings, as far as my job goes. We need you positive posters!

Transcend/beyondTXT
Nov 24, 2009

Can anyone give me any insight to the BeyondText VR platform at Transcend.  I have been offered a position that pays slightly less than my current company for VR.  The recruiter assured me this VR platform was super easy (but that is her job), so what does somebody who has actually worked on it think?  Can anyone compare its ease of use with Enterprise?  Thanks ...

Going From BeyondTXT To Emdat?
Oct 19, 2014

Hopefully leaving Nuance this week! Going to a company with Emdat as an IC.  I have to pretty much train myself on this (as I expected, being an IC) and so far it seems very similar to the older BeyondTXT.  A lot of the keyboard commands are the same as  BeyondTXT before we were switched to the newer (worse) eBeyondTXT.  Can anyone tell me how user friendly it ends up being?   ...

Comparing Escript To BeyondTxt
Jan 05, 2010

I just started BeyondTxt so I am still new and getting used to the platform but when I worked Escript it was a big $$ maker for me. I'm finding that BeyondTxt does not pick up things like Escript did and a lot has to be redone, sometimes keeping only 1-2 lines of text and having to redo the whole rest of the report for only editing pay. I NEVER had to do this on Escript.  It leaves off words and paragraphs and does not pick up very clear speach. Am I not giving it enough of a chance? I ...

Used To Love Editing, Then I Tried BeyondTxt
Jan 28, 2010

I am dying to go back to working with Editscript where I made good money.  I can't do BeyondTxt.  You can't go 2 sentences without running into at least 1 edit and that is being generous becuase it is usually multiple edits in every sentence.  It has no idea where to put commas.  They either have to be deleted or added.  It doesn't learn specs.  Doesn't know how to use hyphens and adds them to everything.  What is spoken clear as a whistle c ...

BeyondTXT Platform TERRIBLE
Oct 17, 2012

I felt that I had to let MTs know some information about the BeyondTXT platform.... I have been an acute care MT for 30 years and I recently went with Transcend/Nuance using the above platform. For example, compared to some other programs like DocuMed, Dictaphone, etc., it is absolutely the worst and most unfriendly program I have ever trained or worked on. It is not all-in-one area.  Your work pool is in one area and the document is in another, plus the demographic screens are all over t ...

Account At Trascend Moving To BeyondTXT

Editing VR In BeyondTxt Has Made Me Severely Depressed.
May 02, 2010

I have never felt more worthless in my life.  I work for about half the pay, it takes longer to do because the drafts are so awful.  You get marked down if you don't use shortcut keys to navigate or whatever and the object is to keep you fingers on the keyboard, but you cannot keep them in the position you need to for transcribing or fixing all the problems.   I find my right hand is always on the control+delete key or end key, and my fingers constantly on the period or ...
