Info Needed on Using Aircard for Internet Access to Work - MTinNC

Posted: Nov 21, 2009

If anyone uses an aircard to connect to the Internet to work daily, I have some questions...

Most aircards I have seen have an access limit of up to 5 GB per month. I work online with a constant connection - as I finish one report and send it in, another one is downloaded, so I am probably downloading/uploading 25-40 times a day. Does anyone know if 5 GB is sufficient to do this for 8 hours a day?  If not, what is the cost of the overage.

If anyone can suggest another alternative that is completely portable, please let me know. I want to be able to take my laptop and go anywhere and work, not be tied to a box here at the house, or be constantly hunting a hotel/motel/campground with wireless.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help!

I use Verizon Wireless . . . - Sunshine State MT

I use Verizon Wireless. It costs 60 per month for 5 GB.

I live in an area where I cannot get high-speed through cable or phone companies. Verizon has been a lifesaver to me.

From what I have been told, 5 gigabytes equals 5120 megabytes.

I transcribe 6 days a week, 8 hours a day and have never ever gone over my limit. I average around 1120 megabytes per monthly cycle.

Now, if you are going to be using it to download movies, etc., then you will probably go over your limit.

I have had no problems with it, even with the bad weather we get in FL.

Hope this helps

I use Millenicom. They lease Verizon towers. No limit. No contract. Same cost, $59.99. Works very well for me.

actually, this question belongs on the "technial board" and has been answered SEVERAL times -- but here I go again -- an air card works VERY similar to a cell phone ---- meaning if you are in an area with limited to no cell phone or a weak signal - FORGET IT -- also, with an air card, you are "locked into a contract as you would be with a cell phone -- TWO year contact for "infrequent use at $60 a month? -- not -- if you are NOT close to a tower , its speeds to dial up. Do a Google search and talk to providers

Thank you! - MTinNC

Thank you to the two answers I received from people who wanted to help. To Ms. "Anon", I appreciate that this should have been under the Technical section and may have been answered before. What I don't appreciate is the way you've answered. I think users here should treat each other with respect and be kind. I can promise I will never post a question or answer here that I'm so ashamed of I have to hide under "Anon".

You're welcome MTinNC nm - Sunshine State MT

I use a Verizon Wireless every day for transcription. Do not even come close to 5G limit. Also use when I travel.
They have a trial period.

Love it

VPN And Internet Access (Phoenix Medcom)
Aug 11, 2013

According to their job posting, you would not be able to access the internet while connected to the VPN.  I was wondering if this would affect ALL computers using the same internet connection.  For example, my son connects to the internet on his laptop in my home via wireless connection.  If I were logged onto the VPN, would he also be blocked from accessing the internet?  Would really appreciate any info from anyone working for Phoenix or with a similar VPN setup.  Than ...

New Pathology Transcription Job, Info Needed
Jun 28, 2013

I am about to start a new in-house path transcription job for a laboratory. I did transcription for about 6 years up until I quit last spring. My specialties then were ortho and PT, so I have no experience in pathology. The new company is well aware of this and is willing to train and be patient with me learning on the job. Even so, I am so very nervous as I know this is a whole different ballgame with terminology. They do autopsies as well. Are there sites I should read up on or dictionaries th ...

Info Needed From Anyone Who Reported MTSO For Not Paying Overtime Please.
Oct 17, 2010

What was the process you went through?  I would guess you most likely would contact the labor board.  Was that your state or the state of the MTSO main office?  I would think they would ask for my timesheets, which I have kept.  Did you mail things to an address the labor board gave you and deal with one investigator? What was the outcome of your case?  How long did it take to get the matter resolved and receive your back pay for all the overtime? I know I pr ...

Access To Old Reports
Mar 05, 2010

I got an email yesterday stating that we would have access to old reports the way that QA does so we can look back to a specific patient's history to find something that might help us fill in blanks.   This is supposed to be in effect today. So I followed the instructions I got in the email, but I just can't figure out what it means.  I seems like it is just to print out instructions on how to do this, but I can't seem to find where we actually pull this informatio ...

How To Access Samples
Dec 09, 2010

DocQmanage: When you log onto DQM, add "dep" (no quotes) behind your ATP number. That will take you into a DQM area where you can search the MedQuist database by dictator, account, and the area from which you want to draw a sample, e.g., operative report or clinic (numerous specialities). The first time you use this area of DQM with the dep marker, you must have called customer support to allow access. Hasn't your CCM told you about this or is it reseved for certain MT levels? Can I Access Markers In ExpressScribe?

Survey - Do You Have Access To Chart?
Apr 28, 2014

I'm wondering how many MTs out there have access to patient charts.  As of now, I do and it's very helpful in looking up vitals, lab values, and doctors' names that the dictator invariably mumbles.  The company I work for will soon remove that access to MTs, and I'm wondering if this is a new HIPAA requirement or if we are moving to a platform that simply does not support it.  They are saying that it is because of HIPAA, but I think it's ridiculous to take ...
