Wondering what everyone does when OOW..flex or not flex sm - Flex or not to flex

What do you all do when you are OOW?  Do you flex and come back later in the day, flex to a different day of the pay week, use your PTO, or take time off without pay?

I usually flex and make up later in day or another day, but really getting tired of that, but need the money, even as little as it is these days. Makes for very long days, as you all know.  Starting out working first shift and then having work to midnight is awful. Besides, do not feel right about cutting into other peoples' shifts, although I am sure they are cutting into my shift..hence little work. Evn thinking of just taking the time without pay once I am semi-retired soon.  Need to get out of that chair and get some exercise.  Life is too short.

flexing, saying we would be taking the work from other MTs. One day, the system was down on Nuance's end, and I foolishly assumed it would be okay to work past the end of my shift to make up for the downtime. Within 15 minutes, my TSM asked me why I was still working and said it was not allowed as I was stealing work from the 2nd shift! It didn't take me long to get sick of getting two hours of work in an 8-hour day, so I eventually quit.

which would normally be Friday for me and I have other stuff to do so I often just use my PTO.

I must be lucky as my TSM pretty much lets me do whatever I want. I normally never run out of work except for holidays and I sometimes will work later for a little while but normally I just take the shortage in hours because I don't want to take jobs away from others as I don't like it to happen to me

You are only allowed to flex when it is understaffed, that way you are less likely to be causing others to go OOW. I have mixed feelings on it. I hate to take away from someone else's shift but it is difficult to know what is truly equitable during these situations.

And then TSMs want to put us on different accounts that have some work. I did that last week and ended up making myself ineligible for the higher tier, but the biggest problem is I COMPLETELY WORKED MY WAY OUT OF RECEIVING THE LAST QUARTERLY BONUS because I made stupid errors. I didn't kill the patient, but I left out the word "to" on one report and capitalized digoxin on another. (These were the only 2 reports audited for the week.) I'm not going on backup accounts ever again. They need to stop overhiring on certain teams. Some of the TSMs and their COMs have not a clue about scheduling work and don't realize the ratio of minutes dictated to minutes transcribed. Idiots run this company!

Ah, if only overstaffing were their only ignorant low-down - practice. Read the entire thread...

I was just reading over at the Department of Labor website. It seems to me that many MTSOs have changed the original meaning of "flex time"for employees. I got an email from my CCM and she asked about us being flex PT.  I am wondering if this position is going to be discontinued and we will have to do regular PT?  I only hold onto this crummy job as a second in case my regular job goes caput (sp)!  I have had that happen so many times with MQ already, just losing the account and sorry no work, so I work for 2 now consistently.  Thanks for any info anyone has! ...

I absolutely hate when I am told to just "flex" my hours. I have contracted for work within a particular time frame. If no work is available during that time it is not a simple matter of just "flexing" my time. My life is not that "flexible". I have kids, husband, house, school to deal with sweetie.  Try to not over hire so many MTs to get that awesome TAT. I was just hired 3 weeks ago for a new account that wtarts out with straight typing and will go to VR. I practically get no work on this account since I think they overhired. Alos they gave me a backup account that now almost every day I run out of work almost ebery day on the backup account. I work as an MT in a very rural area, so the pay is VERY good for me.  We are a one income household since my husband got laid off and I easily pay the mortgage, car payments, all of the bills, etc.  I was wondering, if a person lives in a much more expensive area, like California where a person's mortgage would easily be four times mine, do they get more money per line to compensate for that, or is it the same? ...

gotten their pay docked 3 cents a line for critical errors, over 5% QA submission, etc.  I haven't heard anyone actually say that happened to them.  Is it just a threat ?  I know they would LIKE to dock our pay.    The reason I ask is that I've been having a bad past few weeks.....extra difficult/bad sound quality reports plus stress along with that has caused me to have to sent more than 5% to QA plus I make two what they call critical errors (I saw them as ...

As an in-house MT we were required to wear business casual clothing.  Another job required scrubs.  Now that I work from home, I wear pJs, sweats, jeans, shorts, whatever.   I noticed that when I am "dressed" (not in pj's or sweats) that I seem to be more productive and I was wondering if others have noticed the same thing.  Sometimes I wonder if the way we dress to transcribe affects our productivity as a professional employee.  You know when you dress up to go ou ...
