Thinking about quitting - CuriousMT

Posted: Jan 06, 2014

I am so fed up with this job.  I barely make $8 an hour, and part of that is how much I hate the job and how slow it makes me want to go.  The other is that I still CARE about the work I do, so I spend time on it. I came from making $15 an hour to this, and I just cannot take the beating anymore.  I am seriously thinking of calling my TSM and saying, BUH BUY!  Then finding another job in the downtime. It's even affecting my health.  My stomach KILLS me every morning before I start working, while I'm working, but as soon as I leave this wretched computer and take a break, miracurously my stomach feels better!  Other than not having an income, I cannot think of a single reason not to pack up and leave right now.  God I hate this company!

I've lost all motivation to even try. They expect me to be perfect, count how many 2013/2014 errors we make. Maybe I should count how many the dictators make and I have to correct. I'm just tired and have given up even caring anymore. It's way past time to quit. Best of luck to us all!

Me too - Della

I have the same problems with my stomach. They've gotten so bad I've lost 13 lbs on an already skinny frame. Everyone keeps asking me if I'm dying, I look so bad. I can't eat, I can't sleep. I feel like I've failed at life because of this job. I apply and apply for outside jobs but as yet no one is interested. I want to tell just them to take this job and shove it but I don't want to let my family down.

So... you are not alone. We've GOT to get out of this place.!

On the other hand - tl

I'm sorry you feel this way. I'm sitting here wishing I had a job. I've applied everywhere, or so it seems. I keep testing, applying, E-mailing, and feel like throwing my hands up in the air to seek employment outside the home. I feel a job is better than no job. Maybe you could apply at other places and something better would come along. Best of luck to you. Hang in there. As for me, I have no idea how I am going to pay for anything this month.

That is true - Della

A job is better than no job, which is why I haven't quit yet. I won't quit until I have something better and I will absolutely not work MT any more. No place is safe in this business. I'm seeking something outside the home, and as soon as I find it I will never look back. I really hope you find something soon. I certainly can empathize for your situation.
Not sure how I feel... - CuriousMT

I know deep inside that any paycheck is better than no paycheck, but I hate this job so bad and it's actually causing health issues that it may be doing me more harm than good.

To TL, I hope you find something soon. I have been in your position not able to find a job, and unfortunately I found this one. I thought, yeah, the pay is much worse than my last job but it's something. But now I look back and wonder if my sanity, my health was really worth it. Essentially, I'm saying if you can find a way to NOT work as an MT, I highly suggest finding something else. I don't have the moxy for it anymore!

Also, if you're not passing the tests to get in, there's a fairly good chance you'd make less than minimum wage and then get fired here anyway! I have a family member who just wasn't cut out to be an MT that this happened to. She finally passed a test and then couldn't cut it.
I will be quitting sometime this summer - anon

There are a few things I want to purchase and I want to get my pantry well stocked. Things will be tight and I will have to work and stretch our money and there will be no extra but I will lose my family if I do not start working on that. My husband gets home at 6:45 p.m. and I am already working and has to be in bed by the time I am off. There is no schedule change I can make and the little bit of money I make is not worth the time I put into it.
I have the same problem - anontoo

I work 3 to midnight, my husband works days. He leaves before I get up and I don't finish working until he has gone to bed. My kids come home from school and I've got to work. I can't spend any quality time with anybody. I can hear them all laughing, talking, watching TV, eating dinner, and I'm stuck in a room by myself. I'm alone all day when they are all gone, then I'm alone all evening when they are all home, then I'm alone until I can fall asleep, which is harder and harder to do these days. There is something more lonesome about having people in the house that I can't talk to than actually being in the house alone. I am missing so much of my kids' lives. I can't go to games. I can't go to plays. I can't take them anywhere unless it's my day off. I'm becoming more and more depressed.

I've asked to switch to days and have been turned down numerous times. I'm going to find something outside of this house. This is actually driving me mad. I do it because what little I make actually does help out around here and provides a little extra (and I mean a little!), but it just isn't worth it anymore. I'd rather clean houses than do this job. It is far less degrading in my opinion.

I feel exactly the same way - JJ

Della, you took the words right out of my mouth. Add to all of this that you will have to work there for like 17 years before you get a week off for vacation. I have NEVER worked for a company with a policy like this. No wonder people are burnt out, you have to have some down time, at least I do. I hate this job, and I would quit tomorrow if I did not feel like I was letting my husband down, and the fact that I busted by tail with going to Career Step while working (at the job I wish I never would have left) Good to know I am not alone though

I found a smaller company with an ad on MtDaily and it's been so much nicer with them. No bull crap e-mails, no bull crap made up demeaning QA scores, they give you plenty of work and leave you alone. Feedback is constructive when you get it which is only if it's something you'll run across again. There are better places out there - go find them!

Still making 8 cpl though? - CuriousMT

I recognize why you wouldn't want to say who you're working for now... but do you mind saying if you're working as an I.C. or full time and if you're making more than 8 cpl (or the measly 4 cpl for editing)?

I'm actually making.... - Happy camper

8.5 for transcribe, 4.5 for editing, employee rate with excellent benefits on a great editing platform. These jobs are out there that pay better than Nuance and without the headache. This company I'm with now doesn't advertise often as they usually hire by word of mouth as they get new business. I got lucky when I found their ad and I know 2 others that joined them the same time I did. We all love it.

I quit nearly 10 months ago -- life is sooo good! I was in the medical transcription business for over 30 years and it took Nuance to sour me on the whole industry. My marriage has been saved and my health is good -- stress kills!!!! It's a tough decision to make -- I wish you the best!

Best Thing I Ever Did - Feeling Better

[ In Reply To ..]
I worked for Transcend and then Nuance for 3 years. I never got the bonus and was told that I was making mistakes I know I didn't make. Finally got up the nerve to quit and have never been happier. I work for a smaller company now who does not nit pick over every little a or the, and they actually tell me that I do a great job. I felt better the second I quit this lousy company!

Quitting: IC
Dec 28, 2009

I've been working as an IC for a small operation.  There is no written contract, and in fact nothing was stated verbally about terms, conditions, etc. In keeping with the above ;) , they are disorganized and unprofessional, and I want out.  In fact, I have already written my resignation notice. Another MT just up and quit the other day.  I wish to do the same, even though I have never, ever done this in my life (I'm 46 and have been working since the age of 17).&n ...

PTO When Quitting?
Aug 02, 2010

I'm planning on quitting soon, (yahhhh, finally got a decent offer as an MT), but am wondering if I will have any trouble getting my PTO from MedQuist.  Does anyone know if by law they must give you any PTO you have coming when you leave?  How much notice do you think I should give, 1 or 2 weeks?  Thanks! ...

So Close To Quitting
Oct 07, 2011

I have to vent!  At the moment, there are no words to express how much I hate this job.  i am so sick of listening to foreigners who sound like they have marbles in their mouths and the women sounding like shrill little girls with marbles in their mouths, struggling with all my heart and soul to do a good job, for pennies, knowing if I send to QA for help, my pennies will be taken away.  This is insanity!  I swear, I've died and gone to hell!  ...

Quitting W/o Notice
Nov 25, 2011

Considering quitting Transcend w/o notice.  I understand I will not be able to be rehired.  In years past I quit MQ w/o working through my full 2 weeks too.  (I know... BAD, BAD, BAD.) I am concerned though that if I go to work for a smaller company and they are bought out by one of these 2  (which seems to be a high probability) I could be screwed. In the field these days you have to have a FT job and try it out before you quit.  Then you are trying to do both and get ...

This Close To Quitting!
Mar 17, 2014

If I didn't need the gol dang money so bad I'd quit right now! More work added on my plate after you cut my pay...twice! This is beyond what I can handle today. I'm only 45 minutes into my shift and I'm crying already. Let me back up, Saturday I was NJA (as usual) so I (stupidly) emailed my PTO requests in for the year, during my shift, and then I get an email about "productive time" and then had another account added to my pool. And given 30 minutes to learn 68 pages of a ...

Fired Or Quitting?
Apr 24, 2015

I've noticed a lot of posts on here recently of MT's talking about their last day at Nuance coming up soon, and that has me wondering:  Are most people just quitting because they've had enough of this craziness, or are they getting fired?  I'm curious because according to the threats I've been given by my TSM recently, I'll be getting the boot within the next couple of weeks for "schedule noncompliance" for not getting in all of my hours each week.  ...

Voluntary Quitting And Unemployment

Question On Quitting Protocol
Mar 31, 2012

I am currently working two MT jobs and want to quit one of them. The company I want to quit expects a written 14-day notice, and that's perfectly logical. My question is, should I wait until I receive my latest check (payday is this week), and then give the notice? Or go ahead and do it right now..with the hopes boss won't have sour grapes and decide to do something unthinkable with my money. Also, is it legal to hold money from your check if you don't give the full 14-day notice ...
