I have to vent! At the moment, there are no words to express how much I hate this job. i am so sick of listening to foreigners who sound like they have marbles in their mouths and the women sounding like shrill little girls with marbles in their mouths, struggling with all my heart and soul to do a good job, for pennies, knowing if I send to QA for help, my pennies will be taken away. This is insanity! I swear, I've died and gone to hell!

Well, maybe you could start by researching places - that only hire U.S. born and raised.

Perhaps in a little local business--one that doesn't have customers, call-in or walk-in. Unless you live in a very insular little community where walk-ins at least wouldn't normally be a problem? I'm afraid virtually all large businesses and any work that involves working on a phone or with dictation would only perpetuate your personal hell. Good luck finding a place that will suit you.

did not have to fear losing even more money by being punished for needing help. Sounds like she works for the Q and their practices are not fair to the MT and anyone who thinks otherwise needs their head examined.

I know exactly how you feel, but really is it any different with non-ESL? Those can be something else, too. Considering what we have to go through to learn every medical term and disease processes, etc., we should be paid much more for the agony we have to endure for these few pennies we get. I guess it's better than nothing.

There is nothing worse than having a bad day and all you want to do is vent then someone comes back with a smart mouth.

I've also had jobs in the past that I too thought I died and went to hell, so I am thankful to have what I do.

One of the quickest ways to incite racial/ethic violence or inter-group wars is to create an "Us versus Them" mentality. Some people do it by wishing all of the foreigners would "just go home." Some people in our society still have the temerity to use the N word or the K word or the Q word with no thought given as to the hurt their bigotry causes. Bigotry starts like a little flame and advanced to a fire. People who start out by saying "I hope the (insert your target here) do not move into this neighborhood." And then they become outright and bold. A spark becomes a flame. These things get started when we create us and them in our outlook. We judge others because they are different. Have you ever considered that perhaps that ESL is doing the best he knows how to do? If he could speak better, I am sure I would. And yes, for the last four years, I had a huge and complex teaching account that was 90% Middle Eastern. So what? Some were good dictator, others awful, just like their American counterparts. And some other people are able to handle their frustrations without personalizing it. Yes, many ESLs are a pain in the brain, but they are also human beings.

Have been in the business for decades. The quality of dictators has gone down. When I worked inhouse at a small hospital I could approach the docs and diplomatically say "we can't understand you because" and it would usually be resolved. Now, the powers that be seem to be afraid to approach the docs. My blanks are filled in with word I know are incorrect. There doesn't seem to be a single doc where I work now that is a good dictator, ESLs or non. They all have their "signature" annoyances. Hang in there, I hear your pain.

These "foreigners" could be your relatives. Unless you are an indigenous person, at some point your relatives were "foreigners," too. You are creating an "Us versus them" mentality that is both unkind and does not serve you well. Bigotry is ugly. As I Jewish woman I have seen it and felt it and I am sure the other "foreigners" see and feel it, too. A little more tolerance, please.

There appear to be "special" rules on this board, where some people are allowed to speak their minds, but others should remain silenced.

The moderators do a nice job of supporting small-minded, provincial attitudes, which will get MTs NOWHERE as we move forward and try to adapt in the new socioeconomic climate.

A HUGE clinic with many different specialties in this area has went to Epic and now have laid off 30 MTs. They said with Epic they didn't need them all. What a shame! I have been working so hard to still get a decent line count yet not make big errors, yet still am getting them. I pretty much have the numbers down pretty well, i.e. age, vitals, meds and labs, but seem to make errors on something I might have typed once right in the report, but later got it wrong! Considering quitting Transcend w/o notice. I understand I will not be able to be rehired. In years past I quit MQ w/o working through my full 2 weeks too. (I know... BAD, BAD, BAD.) I am so fed up with this job. I barely make $8 an hour, and part of that is how much I hate the job and how slow it makes me want to go.
