TLs and notice - anon

Posted: Dec 24, 2014

Yesterday, my TSM sent out an e-mail notifying us that in January, the team leads will be transitioning to other positions as that job description is being done away with.  All I can say is I sure hope they had more warning and that it was not a surprise.  The TSM also asked for patience with her as she assumes their duties.  I wanted to laugh as I have not been overall impressed with the duties she was already performing.

Yes, we've known for 1-1/2 months that our jobs were SM - TL

[ In Reply To ..]
going away, we had to interview for new ones and we were told what we ended up with a few weeks ago.

Of course they throw preparing for and training ourselves in with the TL duties, what else is new.

Personally I will be so happy when I move to the new position, I think I'll have less to do.

I'll tell you now if your TSM is like mine, she won't be able to do the job because she doesn't know how to.

seems like TLs roles differed widely based on platform.. - anon

I know my team had/(still has for a while) a few very competent TLs who are awesome, and a whole lot more who are basically useless... those useless ones don't know how to do half the stuff they should and pawn off their responsibilities on the QCs and MLS' even at times.

I don't know, my supervisor lied to us sm - TL

[ In Reply To ..]
because they would say ***all TLs*** did as many duties as we did and I already knew for a fact she was lying.

I won't be sorry to leave that job, it didn't even remotely resemble the job I originally took and right now I hate coming to work every day.

I agree and think the majority of the TSMs will - not be able to handle even a

[ In Reply To ..]
minute amount of the TL duties. When will they have time to plan vacations and plant gardens? Oh my :-)

LOL how long before they officially declare that idea a disaster sm - TL

[ In Reply To ..]
and end up re-developing the TL position and calling it something else? I'll tell you this, there isn't anything they could do to convince me to help them after we start our new jobs. I'm already deleting all my old job info from my computer and from my mind.

How about how many TSMs will be let go once they - realize how useless they really are

[ In Reply To ..]
xx
That too. Well for sure it's going to come to light how sm - TL
[ In Reply To ..]
incompetent they are at the most basic duties of their own jobs let alone taking on what the TLs were doing.

It's not going to work. You have to wonder what genius thinks these things up. It's a never-ending cycle of giving people new titles and different jobs and the same basic problems continue.

If they would pay a wage of 10 or 11 cpl on 98% quality (real quality, not commas and words that have no impact on a patient record) without all this punitive grid crap they would attract every seasoned and professional MLS left in this field. The number of QC staff can be reduced or eliminated. The accounts would stay in TAT because people are motivated to type.

But no, here we go on another merry-go-round of stupidity and chaos.

TSM transitioning - mom22

[ In Reply To ..]
Was this for ambulatory? I haven't heard of it. I know there are some TSMs who really don't know how to get the job done. There is one in particular that, should she be repositioned out, would probably make me smile before my compassion kicked in, I felt bad even for her. But I will be the naysayer here...I have an awesome TSM (actually have had a couple), and those in particular don't deserve this. NO person deserves having their livelihoods messed with. They have families, just like we do. They've already been put in the lion's den by putting their job on the line if WE don't cut it, and they've had to take all their vacation time, or it's lost too. NONE of us deserve this, and it is not hard for me to see why Nuance CEO was voted as one of the worst. You take care of your employees. That is the first step in good business...and from the article stating he just couldn't make money, I see it's probably because he can't keep good, quality-minded and loyal people around because of how he treats them. Why did they change our TSM if they were just going to change something again? I keep hearing "stick with it." I'm not the one constantly changing. Nothing like hitting you with news your job is in jeopardy right at Christmas, eh? God bless us, everyone.

They've known for longer than the TLs this was going sm - me

[ In Reply To ..]
to happen. Your post is people-centered and this company is dollar-centered. That's why you don't understand these changes.

And don't waste any sympathy on your TSM. She doesn't care whether you stay or go, you'll be replaced by someone else. You are overestimating the value of people in your mind.

Value - mom22

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm fully aware of the company being dollar-centered, but I'm also quite proud my post is people-centered. That's how I roll. And whether any of my TSMs have value in me (which, in my opinion, a few do), really has no bearing on how I feel about loyalty to them. I've had the bad ones. As a matter of fact, I had one so bad that every time I think of her, I see her with a pitchfork. Let's face it. The job of a TSM is to get things done and done well. Of course, they would replace me without batting an eye if I wasn't doing my job, and though I'm sure they wouldn't spend the week crying over my departure, would still be unhappy to see someone dependable off their team. Replacing me quickly would be their job. But I have also had those who also appreciates quality-minded and hard-working people. Those few are the ones who have worked around family crises, kid illnesses/school activities, and general burnout; those who appreciate when they have good people because they don't have to worry about those accounts.

They didn't ask for the takeover any more than we did, and now it's turned into a dog eat dog.

I completely understand the changes. It's about a company who has consistently taken over companies in a cutthroat fashion, with no care whatsoever to those affected by it. It's not sympathy I feel but compassion, and I will darn sure feel it for anyone with a family at home who is worried about putting food on the table. (Notice I said worry, and a lot of higher ups don't have that worry, so I am not including them, thank you.) I believe all people have value. If that is an overestimation, then so be it. That is who I am.

My TSM doesn't have to lift a finger for me; I know plenty who don't, but she does. This takeover may have tied her hands, but she has always bent over backwards to be understanding and helpful, and I've truly learned a lot under her. That didn't change because the big bad wolf not only knocked on the door but was handed the keys! I don't know many of us that would be much different if we were in their position. We ALL pretty much are worrying about our jobs it looks like, MT and TSM alike.

So no, there is no overestimation of value of people in my mind. There is, however, a lot of underestimation of value going on in this company, from the top all the way to the bottom. I just refuse to let a slimeball company change my heart and my outlook about loyalty. I show loyalty to those who have shown it to me, until such time I can no longer give it. At that point, it is my responsibility to step away with as much dignity as I can. That's the only way I can sleep at night. I don't apologize for it and don't really care if that makes me a simpleton. I'm one of the lucky ones, I guess. I have a pretty good TSM, and I certainly don't want, yet again, another replacement that is going to carry the pitchfork.

With all that being said...ask me if I have a bit of sympathy for our (former) CEO who invited the blood suckers in or any of those making the decisions to stab the knife in our backs even further! But from what I've seen and heard, the TSMs are in a sinking boat with us (at least my company's TSMs-can't vouch for others), and though we could all probably be happy that some may, deservedly, those their job, there are some who are good at what they do. And yes, they have value, and I have compassion. I will state again, NO ONE deserves to be treated with indifference and abuse. I don't care what their job title is.
VERY, very well said. sm - ANMT

Ambulatory here. It sounds like we could have the same TSM.
TSMs - mom22
[ In Reply To ..]
Ambulatory as well here, and to be honest, most of my TSMs have been pretty helpful and fair. That's just my experience though. I know that I'd follow them out the door though.

TSMs - peg

[ In Reply To ..]
didn't the TSMs used to the what the TLs are doing now, before a TL position was created? I may be confused, but I thought they did (as well as their other TSM duties).

Could someone clarify the original pos? - TL, TSM? Ambulatory

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't quite understand the original post here. I am ambulatory and have a manager, TSM, to report to. Then there is the person that my manager reports to. Who is being switched? The manager or the manager of the managers? Or does this post even apply to the ambulatory side (I don't know if we are set up the same as acute care.) Thanks in advance.

Good question - mom22

[ In Reply To ..]
That's a good question. I'm ambulatory as well, and I've not heard this. I think we are all set up so differently that it's hard to figure out what applies and what doesn't.

And are they being switched again (just done 2 months ago) or something totally different? This is all so confusing. I feel like every week there is something new and different....always described as "exciting!"

This is all acute care, doesn't involve ambulatory people nm - TL

What are the job duties of TLs? sm - ANON

[ In Reply To ..]
Did not even know they existed. When my former employer was bought out a few years ago, we did not have TLs then, nor do we have them now. We only have TSMs. What jobs are the TLs being offered?

Depends on platform. We weren't "offered" jobs, we had to sm - TL

[ In Reply To ..]
interview for and basically compete against each other for various jobs in operations.

Guess I am just curious as to why there was ever a need for "TLs" sm - ANON

[ In Reply To ..]
since the TSMs from my previous company never had them. That is why I asked what job duties were. Were TLs just a carryover from your previous employer?
No, not a carryover, and again duties completely depend sm - TL
[ In Reply To ..]
on what platform they were working on. The duties differed widely not only according to platform but according to time of day your shift was. The later the shift, the more managerial stuff you had to do (not paid for such of course)

As is the norm in this place, choices were made not - on ability but who you know.

[ In Reply To ..]
Totally disgusted. So much for loyalty.
What does this mean? Who do you have to know? nm - acuteMLS
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Agree. Just saying. All that were offered positions - were not the most qualified TLs
[ In Reply To ..]
to begin with and I believe current managers had input on who received offer and who did not.
I don't think that's true. My mgr can't stand me at all and I sm - TL

managed to get the position I wanted.
