Ridiculous quality - anonymous QC

Posted: May 17, 2015

OK...everyone wants to complain about QC and I get it, I am sure there are some QC out there who should not be in the job.  However, I just processed a report, and even before I started doing 100% on it a glaring issue stood out...

Chief Complaint:  What's finger paint.

Um..yeah....listened to it and can anyone guess what it really was???

Left finger pain.

She also typed that he got his hair caught in a clothing rack, when it really was his finger, left out words everywhere.  Wel-developed....really?

This is the type of thing I see with some offshore MLS, which is what I assumed this was until I looked and it was not!!!  This kind of thing is ridiculous.

Proper employment tests for MT and paying for that work will help - Nobody to blame but the MTSO

[ In Reply To ..]
How dare any QA person, not singling out the OP, complain about the quality of the work when they know full well that the MTSO hires the cheapest labor possible and pays them less than they are worth. Start paying an appropriate wage and testing their skills before you hire them and the problem will be solved.

Yep... - Dramatized

[ In Reply To ..]
Apparently you get what you pay for...

Actually - anonymous QC

[ In Reply To ..]
I completely agree!!! They hire crap and that is what they get. However, I think this report was more about an experienced MLS (I have known her for years), getting into a huge hurry and missing some voice rec issues. I was more pointing this as an example of what QC...not QA...deal with every day...And offshore is even worse than this. And if we don't catch these ourselves, we are dinged for them by QA and it now also puts a dent in our pay.

An experienced MLS being pressured to go for speed - Do not try to blame it on the MLS

[ In Reply To ..]
There are some poor MTs who should never have called themselves MTs in the first place. There are also some very talented, skilled MLS as you called them who are being forced to do shoddy work or lose their job. It is impossible to do quality work under the current conditions. That is not the fault of the MLS.

Agree 100% - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
That's why I finally just quit MT altogether and decided to get into life insurance sales as an independent! Too tired of hearing I needed to work faster and then being dinged for minor, minor issues, when there are people out there typing crap like this. I didn't work in this field for 25 years to get pay decreases every year and treated like a factory worker in China! If I'm going to continue to deal with that kind of stress I need to make more money. Hello commission-only work, I'm ready! I've been working my butt off for someone else until now, chained to my computer... if I put in the same time and effort I might be able to get out of the financial black hole that MT has ultimately become.

I agree with other posters.... - AND ALSO......

[ In Reply To ..]
I am sure that is a VR report and that the MT rushed through it trying to make at least the bare pittance to pay her bills. I place the blame squarely on the MTSO (namely Nuance), who virtually forces this kind of thing with unfair paycuts and ridiculous expectations.

You didn't actually expect any sympathy or even agreement to that post, did you?

Wow!! - anonymous QC

[ In Reply To ..]
I am just as sick to my stomach with the criminal action of the "pay grid", but no matter what, I do not believe there is any excuse for turning in this type of work.

Speech wrecked - nuanceptsdsurvivor

[ In Reply To ..]
They are in such a rush to collect their pennies that they figure it is no big deal to just send it to QC and they are right. I am not knocking MTs or QC. Many of us were sold to this sweatshop by no choice of our own.

If this is the attitude of one of the nicer QCs, it's time to switch careers - No doubt about it

[ In Reply To ..]
If that doesn't convince us to switch careers, I don't know what will.

I might not rush to judgment, might be a tech problem - with the MT

[ In Reply To ..]
As a QC I have seen times where corrections by the MT don't go in or there is some other kind of problem with file transfer. EditScript is sort of famous for it.

Yes, this has happened to me several times! - AnotherAnon

[ In Reply To ..]
It's very frustating and nothing ever got done to fix it.

Sorry that happened to you, it is not uncommon - SoonToBeExQC

[ In Reply To ..]
in EditScript. Sometimes it is only on a report once in a while, and sometimes it's a much larger problem needing tech support. Hopefully you get a QC that is skilled enough to spot it since it can be tricky. Red flags are reports that look like they have not been edited at all, and the example given above looks like that just at a glance. Definitely challenge any fallout you get if it happens again because you should not be slapped for a tech problem. Each job can be researched to see if this is the issue. Good luck to you.

I too have to hope - bornfree

[ In Reply To ..]
that this was some glitch in electronic transfer of the document, as this example looks like unedited VR (even tho I've honestly never seen VR be quite THIS bad, at Nuance). Or could it be "MT Gone Wild"? I don't care how little we MTs are paid (and it's truly bad pay), there is still no excuse for this type of work, I don't care how pressed we are for speed. So, what does QC do when they see this type of document? -- is there followup with Tech Support or some other action? I sure hope there was a good reason this happened.

Not the OP, but what likely happened next was... - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
...just exactly what you see here on the board. The QC person, who is paid in the same fashion as the MLS who typed/edited the report, takes a deep breath, curses out loud since no one's around to hear her/him, makes the necessary corrections, and sends it on and moves on to the next one. Hours later, after she/he has made a small amount of money doing a job she/he used to love doing, said QC person comes to an anonymous board to vent about it since that's basically the only thing that can be done about it. Sure, she/he could request technical issues perhaps be looked into, but by the end of the day, that person is frustrated, tired, has a banging headache, and hopes that the MLS will take a moment (unpaid time of course) to review her/his QC1 reports, see that there is some sort of glaring tech issue, and take further unpaid time to make a complaint to their TSM in hopes that the issue is addressed, which it may not be for several days depending upon who the TSM is...

I could go on, but I won't since you all know the drill yourselves.

to just work as fast as I can without proofing and see if I make more money, even if I get caught with a major error. I am too OCD though and can't seem to bring myself to turn in something I'm not sure is as perfect as I can get it. Could be that MT has found that it pays more to be fast rather than accurate.
Quality and IT - all smiles

I've found that on Enterprise, for reasons unbeknownst to me, Spellcheck does not save changes made during the spellcheck process. Of course, I am the only one who has ever had this problem and the only one who has ever reported having this problem. Just my computer. Never ever happened to anyone else.

So, I do spellcheck, make the changes, say no when it asks if I want to send the report, then do a manual save, then redo spellcheck.

Problem solved.

IT said to send me some report samples.

Gee, DUH, if my changes didn't get saved, then HTH would they see that?

Cannot prove a negative.

I've also found, much to my dismay, that there are so very many many many errors in spellcheck that one should never ever trust it. Just check every number and for sure check every medication. Spellcheck has medications in the dictionary spelled so many different ways you cannot trust spellcheck. Latest: loratidine (loratadine is correct). Ciprofloxacin (ciprofloxacin is correct). For reasons unclear to me, generic medications are sometimes in there capitalized.

One spellcheck error (recommends changing cardiovascular to CArdiovascular) that I asked be removed 2 years ago is STILL in there.

(I don't add to spellcheck dictionary, so it isn't me.)

New Quality Index Vs Old Quality Score
Oct 18, 2014

I ran an error report for all reports, all accounts on my platform for this quarter, 10/1 - 10/18. So far the Quality Index is 84% vs Quality Score 99.18%.  Didn't they advertise this new error scoring as working out in our favor?  Doesn't look like it to me. This is based on 2194 jobs and 105,358 lines audited on E5.  I checked the box that says view all corrections on the correction report. ...

My team is required to be signed into a conference in Spark when working our account.  That is not a bad thing, in fact it is quite educational because I am seeing just how ridiculous everything is.  The account is verbatim, you only type a heading if it is dictated.  Someone is worried that the doctor said Procedure for a heading naming the procedure and then later used procedure when beginning the real procedure.  That MT was worried about getting dinged if she changed the ...

MT Companies And Ridiculous TATs
Oct 08, 2010

I had a very odd thing happen last night, a doctor was complaining about the quick turnaround on the reports! Work has been very low at my company, which is the result of overhiring and having way too many MTs on the accounts, and my company does this purposely in order to get really quick (as in immediate) TATs. So, I'm transcribing reports last night as they trickle in, if I can grab them in time before another MT gets them, and one of the reports that I got was a consult.  At both ...
