if it weren't for the insurance - So Freaking Bored

Posted: Dec 27, 2013

I am just going out of my mind doing this anymore.  It's just so boring! I took on a part time job and now I'm doing this insanely boring work 60 hours a week.  I can't quit MM because I need that insurance, and I don't want to quit the other job in case I lose my gig with MM.

How did my life ever go so wrong?

I was working about 50 hours before - 2Jobs

I was so bored, so tired working all those hours, but not actually working if you know what I mean. I realized I wasn't making any extra money for those extra hours and cut back. It's easy to lose perspective when you have so little time off, grow to resent sitting in that chair. Plus all the pressure to be perfect, audits, LPH, terminations. It's enough to drive anyone crazy. You're not alone.

why not get your own insurance - did that years ago

No more could an MT company hold me hostage because I needed benefits. Best decision I ever made.

because MModal's is so cheap - $370 for me and family

and that's per month, not pay period. You can't beat that anywhere.

MModal's insurance for me $57 a check - FloridaSunshine

While I agree the work can become quite boring, cannot beat the price of insurance coverage for myself only. Looks like family coverage including the husband would probably be just as reasonable. Only thing keeping me around this camp, otherwise I would also be looking for work elsewhere.

me too! - self insured MT

And sure glad I did because I was working for a company where the benefits were based on production, and the work dried up. If I had gone with their insurance, I would've been SOL.

Also, I wouldn't feel too secure with company insurance these days anyway. Once the employee mandates kick in next year, a lot of people could lose their company-provided insurance.

What Would You Do If You Weren't An MT?
Aug 11, 2011

Just out of curiosity.  I went into the MT career when my first son was born.  I wanted a decent job allowing me to work part time but raise my own children.  11 years later and I don't ever regret that decision.  I have 2 children now, I work part time at night after they go to bed, and I am able to homeschool them and they can do their sports activities.  I worked for MQ as my original training for 5 years and I thought the pay was pretty good, had a great supervi ...

FYI Regarding Insurance
May 17, 2011

I don't know if yall know this, but I found out during the process of appealing an insurance claim that MedQuist is self-insured.  They set our rates and our benefits and pay all our claims, United Healthcare just administers the fund!  Kind of explains why things got so sh***y so fast, it's because MedQuist is calling the shots ...

Insurance?
Nov 07, 2012

I just went over the NEW (using the term loosely) insurance for January.. wow.. there is not much change to mention.  Well, except that smokers will have to pay more.  We will still have to pay (single) 2500.00 out of pocket before they will even pay the 75% (my heart goes out to those with families!).  I dont know about the rest of you, but that just dooms me to no benefits to speak of or else to just owe out the wazooo.  I had been told by my physician that I had ...

I just read the insurance thread and one of you mentioned having no Rx coverage. E&O Insurance Coverage For IC MTs

Does anyone know anything about E&O insurance coverage for IC MTs and if it will be required by government in the year 2010?  A recruiter told me this morning that her company would require this coverage since the U.S. government will require ICs to have this coverage in February of 2010.  Did I understand her correctly?  If so, does anyone have any idea how much this would cost? ...

Health Insurance As An IC
Oct 21, 2010

I am considering becoming self employed (after a fashion) as an IC.  I have gone onto www.healthcare.gov and gone through the steps they advise when you want to take out private insurance.  Holy cow, the insurance plans offered varied in premium cost from $600 to $4000 per month for a family of 4, but the thing that got me was two items:  Maximum out of pocket for individual: 0$.  Annual deductible for individual: 0$.  Woohoo.  This just seems too good to be true.&n ...
