Nuance insurance or Obama's "marketplace" insurance - Craig

Posted: Oct 17, 2013

Hmmmmmm, should I go with Nuance insurance or Obama's "marketplace" insurance - that is the question. I'll be broke either way.

if your employer offers health insurance, you do not have the option of going to the market place, although there are exceptions such as the cost being a certain percent of your income.

I think I am just going to go with the VA - NM - Veteran

Has benefited Nuance, and they have not taken it upon themselves to be proactive and offer a plan which would conform to the requirements of the ACA. The ACA requires you don't have to pay more than 9.5% of your income in premiums, which this sort of complies with (although it might not for some of us) - however, while the preventive care items are free, these policies are still disincentivizing you to go to the doctor by making everything subject to the deductible.

No copay for GP visits (or anything except prescriptions), really? Not only that, but you have to pay the full price of a doctor visit or any other visit until deductible is met? That pretty much stinks, I'm sorry.

I definitely think the ACA exchanges are better than this. Maybe next year Nuance will just pay the fine rather than offer anything since they seem dead set against offering decent, affordable health care after they have bottomed out our incomes.

The thing about the ACA is that it caps your costs and actually forces insurers to offer affordable copays, deductibles and OOP costs that incentivize not only your yearly physical and mammogram, but other things that might need seeing to but you are not going to do it if you have to climb that $2500 deductible. Bad sports.

Can you explain - why you dislike this?

[ In Reply To ..]
Do you disagree with my assessment of the insurance offered by Nuance or what? I could be wrong, but if you are fine with no copays and having to pay down the $2500 before getting any cost sharing, by all means, explain.

If you're making as little as the typical MT, - IF you were to qualify for Obamacare,

you should qualify for a very substantial discount. You might not pay less than a single insured worker, but coverage should be significantly better.

Note the kicker -- people who have insurance available through their work do not normally qualify for Obamacare. They have access to insurance. The exception is when the insurance is so lousy that they are effectively uninsured. I don't have the money these days to pay the $2500 deductible before the insurance starts paying only MOST of the bills, and as a result never go to the doctor (except for the 100% paid-for annual physical Obamacare insists insurers cover), so I have been wondering if some of us might fall in that exception category.

In any case, I've heard the sign-up process is a breeze for the few who've managed to get past the sign-in. So I'd wait until they get the glitches fixed and apply and find out.

Not necessarily. You need to research - before assuming

I was pleasantly surprised with the "marketplace" plans.

HSA plans? - BigProfits

Companies that offer this type of insurance are using/laundering our money on the Wall Street casinos. Just think of all that saved deductible money available to them. We can't use it but they can. No small wonder they keep it up and running. Think about it.

Hardly - I love my HSA

[ In Reply To ..]
HSAs come with a saving account so you can bank money to cover your oop expenses. You have the option to invest that money into mutual funds so it can grow.

Is is the best plan for someone with a chronic condition who goes to the doctor often? Probably not. But for my family, specifically, it works great. Also, they still cover preventative care and annual kid checkups at no oop cost.

Also, do you have any idea how insurance companies pay for your expenses? They take your premium money and invest it, no matter what plan your in -- be it HMO, PPO, HSA. The total amount of premiums paid is always less than the total cost of care paid out.

I recommend that you do some more research before making such inane and blatantly incorrect comments.

Company-contracted hucksters offer us one official option - to put our savings in one place; HOWEVER,

that's not the law. You can open an account anywhere you want and have the company auto-deposit to it.

When I discovered a couple years ago that the institution the company chose for us to deposit at paid something like 0.015% interest and CHARGED ACCOUNTHOLDERS TRANSACTION FEES for ALL ACTIVITY on the account (!!!!), I checked the law and then told HR I would be making my own arrangements.

At that time they had no procedure for this and had to get back to me a few days later, agreeing that I could do it. I suspect that if I had not told them I KNEW I had the right under the law their response might have been different, because it was news to the clerk, apparently her superior too, and not in the procedure manual.

I like to think I'll be able to keep and invest money eventually that I haven't had to spend. Know, however, that it was set up this PARTICULAR way by GOP amendment to the ACA during the negotiation stage with the specific intent of providing others, such as our physicians, with yet another tax dodge. There were ways to do it that would have been more beneficial to lower-level employees, one of which was changed to this.

Has Anyone Looked Into Buying Health Insurance Through The Marketplace Instead?
Nov 05, 2014

I mean, Nuance ins doesn't cover anything really. It's only in case of something catastrophic and then you'd better be able to pay $5000 out of pocket right? I mean we have to pay for everything until we hit $5000 just for the insurance to even start paying for anything. Right? Is Obamacare better than that? If it is, it's not affordable at all. ...

Nuance Health Insurance
Nov 09, 2012

Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have heard this insurance plan (BC/BS?) does not cover primary care office visits until you reach a 2500 dollar deductible, no copay anymore, paying for the whole visit??  I thought all insurance companies had us pay a copay, not the whole cost of the office visit.  What about prescriptions, do we pay the full price for them now too, or is it still about a 15 dollar copay?  I am left wondering how they got this kind of insuranc ...
