I have a very simple question for MQers - but one I think is very profound

Posted: Mar 08, 2010

Let us say it's April 1st. You're not going anywhere. You're planning on working and you report as scheduled throughout the pay period. How many of you can predict, let's say within 5%, what you'll make during the pay period with everything taken into consideration?

does the term . . . - voice

NIL mean anything to you? That is prety much would we will be making. ZIPPO, NIL, NADA.

I couldn't even predict within 5% before the changes - fluctuating pay

Some days I get my primary and familiar dictators and make great money, other days I get bounced all over the court and make squat for money, other days I get NJA and make nothing.

I never know what I will make and so with the changes afoot, it will make no difference to me. All in all, I still make less than my 18-year-old, so who cares.

hahaha - absolutely ZIPPO - Fed up to the gills and mad as hell

I used to happily type along and make about 200 lines an hour. Now, I struggle to get 100 lines. The sound quality is crap - static, squeaks and other nonsensical garbage comes through such that you cannot hear the doctor or what he is saying. And yet it is so darn hard to get work with another company it seems.

When you know you could make more flipping burgers at McDonalds, there is SOMETHING WRONG. I got an education to do this job. Why bother to get an education if I'm making less than I would at McDonalds? So, here I vent.

The Willy Wonka Answer - The best way to tell you.

There's no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There's no knowing where we're rowing
Or which way the river's flowing

Is it raining, is it snowing
Is a hurricane a-blowing

Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
Are the fires of Hell a-glowing
Is the grisly reaper mowing

Yes, the danger must be growing
For the rowers keep on rowing
And they're certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing

Sooooo---No way to know how the river of work from MQ will flow -- if you will have straight typing, ASR, good dictators, bad dictators, clear audio, static audio, or any work AT ALL as you travel through the Wondrous Boat Ride that is MQ.

MQers: Has Anyone Tried

to put Medquist's DQS onto a Windows 7, 64-bit computer, and did it work?  Before or after MQ's latest upgrade of DQS?  I'm reading mixed results...  (Moderator, please please please leave this on MQ's page as it's not just a tech question but is specifically about MQ, and MQ employees who have tried this are more likely to see it here.) ...

Across The Board Apology To My Respected Fellow MQers. Sm
Nov 30, 2010

First, I suppose I have come across here in a tone that was bitter and hateful.  I ask forgiveness for that.  Now, to tell me I am wrong for venting my hatred (wow, where did that come from) and venom on here was extremely hurtful to me.  I have read many, many, many posts here on this board; which is meant to be a place where we can share and vent supposedly without recrimination and some empathy.  And there are many who are also long-time employees who have serious medical ...

MQers: Your 99% QA Goal Is Designed To Prune The Workforce. (sm)
May 21, 2011

It is a targeted approach to culling the workforce.  Through attrition, they are cutting their workforce needs.  Only those with the skill set they WANT will survive.  This approach is very effective. They can change the standards/requriements at any given time and then let you go without recourse for not meeting those. CBay is taking more and more work offshore.  The need for US MTs is less and less.  They will eventually have only a literal handful of US MTs left. ...

I hope this is the right board to ask this quick question!  If not, please re-direct me. Am Considering A Position With M*Modal. Have A Simple Question
Oct 11, 2012

Actually, I guess I have 2 questions.  What is the production minimum for editing?  What is your average production in lines per hour with editing?   I know the latter question carries a lot of variables, and I will take those into consideration.  But I would like to know how you all actually do production wise.  Please, no inflations just honest answers concerning your average.  A simple 250 or 325 or whatever would suffice.  If you can elaborate further or ...

Need Simple Word 2010 Macro For Copy/Paste
Feb 14, 2014

I've been using Instant Text for years but realized that there are probably quite a few macros I could create in Word 2010 to make certain repetitive commands a lot easier for me.  I know the basics of creating a macro in Word but cannot for the life of me figure out how to create a macro to do this: I want to copy text,(i.e. from a Preoperative Diagnosis) and have it pasted into the next line after the heading Postoperative Diagnosis when the dictator says "same." I tried recording ...
