I've muddled through a whole procession of unfamiliar accounts and dictators this morning til my head hurts. And now we get an e-mail stating (surprise, surprise!) we are really backed up and asking for OT for this weekend. Let me think about this....do I want to spend this weekend chained to this desk for pennies struggling through one lousy report after another to bail them out of the consequences of their wonderful new "Pod" idea? Ummm, let me think. No. That's a big NO.

I feel your pain. I am in the same boat. Line count went from 240-250 per hour to 140 tops and they wonder why there is a back log???

They created this mess. Let them figure it out.

I don't get it. Everyone complains they don't make enough money. You are being offered a chance to make more money to be able to pay your bills and you won't take it??

I take any and all overtime offered, whenever, on any account. Money is money when bills need to be paid!

My head is spinning from struggling through one unfamiliar account after another. I work Saturdays anyway and trying to work anything extra would gain me very little monetarily and probably take years off my life. Not to mention not wanting to bail them out of this mess. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to take everyone's accounts away and shove all of us onto unfamiliar accounts. If they didn't foresee our productivity tanking, they certainly should have.

Good point trampledunderfoot, but I still wont turn down an - opportunity to make a little extra.

I also work on Saturdays and have over the years. What I cannot understand is why oh why cant I have consistency in my work. I think I have typed for EVERY hospital and/or clinic in the country. Now I am simply getting burned out and only want to get through my shift, do a good job. I don't care about winning blank campaigns, HDS of the week, month, or year. I never dreamed morale would be this low at this point in my "career."

As soon as I read the post above I ran to my work email to see if my POD was offering OT and nope, none. I'm a single mom and the holidays are coming up - I need the money.

Every time I'm offered overtime ... weekends, holidays, it doesn't matter ... I'm all over it. Anyone who passes up extra income based on "principle" needs to have their heads examined ... it doesn't come around that often.

I have never have had any benefit or protection from threats of performance management or layoff by boot licking. That said, I do partake of "OT" if I find out soon enough. Although, it is not OT for me because my part-time hours were cut because MM chooses not to run the chance of paying for any health care for me.

Yeah & sometimes you have kids to feed, to heck with a "principle." You go right - ahead with your principles.

I was also anxious to work, but the offer did not include my accts. I got on this morning, and one of my accounts needs some serious help considering we in the weekend, but no mention was made of that account for OT. I need the money too, but she did not accept my offer of working, so I will put in my hours and go clean house. Of course, next week I will be running out of work every single day, and then get snotty emails telling me to make up my time. REALLY????

I figured in the last 2 days of OT I already made enough money to pay for my books for second semester.

Those of us who have done this job a long time know this job has always been feast or famine. This new POD creation isn't going to change that, no matter what the brain trust corporate people think. So IMHO take advantage while the opportunity to make some extra money is here because starting after Thanksgiving until the first few weeks of January it will be famine again.

It is an individual thing. I find I do not make that much money working the OT, not now that they have changed the accounts, etc. I need my health more than I need any little morsal of OT offered. If you need the $, then I don't blame you if that is what you want to do, but for me it is just not worth the money because it is so little.

I agree with you! They just did it to themselves. I won't put myself through anymore difficulties for them. I sit here during my regular time and can hardly believe how bad some of these accounts are that we are getting. It is a disgrace that they do not sit down and discuss with each facility that they must do their part as well. But if you are as out of touch as they are, that is a big DO (dream on). I just got an email from someone whose name I don't even recognize, and wrote and asked who they are, and I guess they are another PC. Well, you know, how many people does it take to screw in a lightbulb. I guess as many as they want. Enough said.

Yes I pay my bills and the reason I can do that, is that I don't work for this blood sucking company any longer. I have a job that provides work day in and day out, as it should be, since that is why they hired me.

I used to jump on everything, tried to be a good employee, tried to comply, signed up extra, holidays, etc., and it got me absolutely nothing. When the NJA started rolling in a regular basis, no one offered me a thing, except to take it w/o pay or use my own PTO. You can jump through all the hoops you want for this place and it will get you nothing. Instead of wasting your time and energy working OT, because they screwed up, look for another job and get away from this place.

You can look for another job and work the OT too - More than one way to skin a cat. nm

Some dont want to work because they feel it contributes to out of work situations during the week, but if you dont work it many others will. Might as well get your cut too. I'd rather go ahead and put in an extra few hours and be prepared for the NJA than to not put in anything at all and have NJA.

I agree. Why would I work any OT with terrible sound, new accounts, and just generally poor dictators. I end up losing money and not making any money by working OT. I used to work any OT they offered, no matter when. I did it without any problem. Not anymore. I need the money, but I need my health more, and that is a fact. It is way too stressful to put up with this QA, the commas in the wrong places, to whack your quality, etc. I just won't put myself through it any longer. This is an individual feeling I have, and I would never condemn anyone for working any extra that they want too. For me, I don't make enough to bother with it. I find if I take my days off I am better mentally and physically to start another grueling week.

Why don't all of us who are tired of everything join forces and form our own company. We live all over the country, know how to do the work, know how to QA, know different platforms. Send your resume to every company out there, stating that you are looking for IC work. When you get an interview, demand more pay than the measly 8/4 cpl that they are trying to shove down our throats. I came across this idea when looking for ideas to branch out from doing MT. A local technical school in my area offers a certification degree for a respiratory therapist. In doing some research, this doesn't sound that bad. You basically work with patient's who have trouble breathing, asthma, COPD, etc. Learn how to use all the oxygen breathing equipment and such, learn how to respond to a patient who might be coding and give proper airway support. In any case, I've been ignoring it. You can double check your pay by taking the amount of money in the Current column and dividing that by the number of lines in the Piece Units column. It may be a little bit more if you work nights and get the shift differential as it seems that they add that on. It would be nice if they would show that in a seperate row like they did before Ultipro ...
