how does this sound for legal transcription work? this is my first time being offered (and quoted) this type of work and pay. any ideas? i did test for them and the verbatim legal test file was quite easy and well over 1-1/2 pages in a short amount of time.

<<<15 pages = $18.00 a page. All pages count. Usually less than 25 lines on a page>>

Are you saying you're doing 15 pages at $18 per page? If that's the case, grab it and run.....fast.

okay, i read the email as 18.00 PER page for each 15 pages completed. i have emailed her to clarify this. if it is 18.00 total for ALL 15 pages, i will be running away from it full speed. just starting out i made 7 cpl!

there response was: "not all pages have that many lines on them. If you typed 80 pages it would be $95.40. Keep in mind, this is different than medical transcription."

i am going to give it a shot. (since i am a legal asst and MT, it would at least be a good thing to put on the resume)

Thats 4-5 cents a line, about $1.19 a page. I made - $5 a page in 1993. Just sayin nm

well since not all pages have lines or very few lines, i am going to give it a shot. if i find in a month or so that i havent made anything, i will go on my way.

it is legal transcription, too, so maybe it will be nice to have something different. we'll see!

You should insist on being paid by the line. - starzzz

That's the only way that it's 100 percent fair to you and to the client. You get paid for everything you type, and they get charged for only what is typed. Very rarely does being paid by the page turn out in the transcriptionist's favor because the clients will try to adjust the font size and margins so that you're making about half of what you deserve. You don't have to be rude about it, but just point out that you charge X-amount for a XX-character line--period. Good luck.

How does it work when a company advertises that they pay per page? How on earth would I know what I would get paid? Wouldn't some pages have just a little and some a lot? I have a question about Smartype and I will try to make it so it is understandable:) I bought Instant Text because I had to have some way of moving my Smartype over into Word 2007 (I had Word 2002). I have Instant Text turned off until I learn the new platform on the new company I am with. My problem is this, the Smartype line will not move with the page so when I get to the bottom of the page it covers up everything at the bottom and I can only manually move Smartype by scrolling back up ...

work 6 days a week, even though it adds up to 40 hours a week? Our supervisor is trying to force us to work 2 hours every Friday night. This means only one full day off. Is it really legal for Nuance to make us work a holiday, then we don't get paid for it because there are no reports, and then they expect us to work overtime another day to make up for the holiday we worked on that we were never paid for?! I missed 3 days and 3 hours of work due to computer crashing. It took all this time to purchase a new computer, get windows 8 out and windows 7 in, fix whatever for windows update to work and now I'm told I have to use PTO or MUP this week. Seriously? I was hired full-time by a small company 3 months ago, offered 15.00 hr, just recently demoted because of a complaint of quality (which was very questionable), told they would pay me 5 cpl (woohoo) for production. I really can't believe this....well I can. I quit Medquist three weeks ago. I have found online courses through meditec and Penn Foster and am leaning towards meditec who also offers an online paralegal course. I am scheduled for 35 hours a week. If I only got 28 hours last week becuase of the holiday (no work) and the day after (no work), and not being able to make up all of that time, how is it legal that the CCM just takes my PTO and adds that to my timesheet to cover that 7 hours? I thought we can be released with no pay. I mean, geez... I did not request the holiday off, I signed on for my shift and only got a couple hours. For constantly getting no jobs on your shift anymore? This is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! It has been since December and is just getting constantly worse! I applied today for what I assume is an in-house legal transcription position unless I get lucky and get to work at home. This job is a 41 minute drive one way for me. I've never done legal transcription. The job description states pay is based on experience. It's strange because the ad states medical transcriptionist/paralegal.
