I am doing some research and have a couple questions: How much would YOU charge clients if you are using a speech recognition platform for editing their dictation? Also, what would YOU pay your ICs for editing the work? Thank you in advance... :) **I have edited this post to add the following** Lets try this scenario thenâ�¦ Say you are an MTSO that has been in business for many, many years and are fairly well established in your local area. Your docs currently dictate by calling into your system or via handheld that is then uploaded into your system. Now you are â��upgradingâ�� to speech recognition and need to change the way you are billing and paying out for your services. Would you change your rate that you currently have established with your docs? If so, what would you change your rate to? What would you then pay your transcriptionists to edit the reports? Would you pay your transcriptionists hourly or per line?

It's telling that the two community colleges in my area have recently disbanded their longstanding MT programs altogether. Look around. It's a dying field.

Compare/contrast this place with any medical coding board anywhere, and compare the job offerings and salaries while you're at it.

I am not sure what I would charge as that would take some research. Are we talking a doctor's office, an acute care facility, etc.

As for pay, I would pay my ICs one rate for SR or ST. Each document requires the same level of knowledge and expertise that only a MT can bring, regardless of whether that document is transcribed or edited.

You have too many variables that go into those questions, that make it impossible to answer.

Asking a figure YOU would charge just asks someone to throw out a figure w/o knowing any of the variables. What you might THINK you are going to charge, just may not hold up in reality.

Type of work, type of dictators, TAT, costs involved in capturing data, overhead costs, volume, priorities, data storage etc all factor into determining a price; then, of course, you have to hope the market can bear what you think you're worth.

When I was an MTSO, I paid my ICs 2 cpl less than I was charging the client. But my costs were very low 15 years ago. Technology means you have to stay relevant and keep up, so you have to pay to use the advantages available to you.

The lack of business acumen of those on this forum never fails to astound.

You have to learn what your COST PER UNIT is to have ONE UNIT (however YOU define it) transcribed. Until you know what your COST is, you can't possibly determine what to CHARGE clients.

I was not looking for an absolute amount or anything of that nature. I am basically researching to see what others say about the subject and researching opinions so no need to read more into it than that :)

Compsring dollars and cents of how "downhill" the pay has gone for ICs and how much the cost has gone up (if that is the case) for clients.

I am assigned to 4 accounts, 1 new about 2 months ago and the other 2 a few weeks ago. At first there was tons of work, OT every weekend and now...nothing. There is no work ALL DAY LONG.
