WMX differential for CMT? - sm

Posted: Jul 31, 2010

Of course it is late Friday night when I am trying to figure out if it would be worth it to study and sit for the CMT--and I can't find a specific amount for the WMX CMT differential to do my quick and dirty calculations.  :)

Anyone out there know how much they offer? Or at least where they specifically state what amount is given?

differential - not sure, but

Don't work there, but I have come across many, and they offer 1/4 of a cent. You can probably figure out if it really worth it. I SAY NO!!!!

CMT worth it - CMT x 12 years

If an MT does the minimum line count at most companies (150 LPH), it amounts to 37.5 cents extra per hour, or about $800 a year. It's worth it to me, plus it has helped me advance in my career. I'm proud of the accomplishment!

That is kind of why I was wondering... - sm

If it was 0.0025, then that would be about $800 extra a year...but take off the cost of the exam and study manual (I would hate to go in cold), and you're down to $600 or so. Calculate time for CEC each year and it drops a wee bit more. I am just on the fence right now with extremely little time to devote to it.

OTOH, if it was 0.005, then I would definitely do it.

Congrats on your accomplishment, btw. :)
Renewal is every 3 yrs, so CEC cost over that period. - another W CMT

You have to be kidding. What kind of accomplishment is it to line the pockets of an organization who is responsible for the demise of this profession. People, remove your head from wherever you have it. They are ACTIVELY supporting offshoring and the loss of our jobs. They are responsible for the decline in wages and are dumbing down their test so the Indians can pass it. Are people really that insecure that they need worthless initials after their name? And the reason WMX pushes being credentialed to high heaven is they are right there in bed with AHDI. I would not take this test if it were free. If you do, you are supporting the loss of our jobs.
You hit the nail on the head - Wmx loves ADHI and it shows
[ In Reply To ..]
They "join up" with ADHI, they start pushing credentialing, then constantly nagging us to vote for Wmx as a great employer! But what good is a company discount on the test when we KNOW that Indians get much deeper discounts on "credentialling fees"? Anybody giving a cent of their money or an instant of their time to ADHI is cutting their own throat - and it is obvious since Wmx got it bed with them that life has become definitely worse for their MTs. ADHI has given Wmx many "exceptional" tips on how to slash wages and spin propaganda - GEE THANKS!
Well, if employers like MTs to have it... - Poppy

And they do. Mine boasts of the % of CMTs it offers its clients. So, IMO, at bottom line it's about taking care of yourself. Many unhappy postings suggest some are being shaken out of this field. If having the CMT credential might help one survive changing times, isn't it worth adding it to one's resume?

you are lining the pockets of AHDI. Why is it so hard to comprehend you are supporting an organization that is actively trying to take your job from you? How in God's name is that taking care of yourself? I would also bet, just like Webmedx, any employer who wants the initials CMT after your name, is also in bed with AHDI, and there is something in it for them. I think pretty soon, hopefully, clients will realize the initials CMT aren't worth the paper they're printed on and they won't care one way or another. I have seen quite a few "CMT'S" making mistakes that a first year MT shouldn't make. AHDI needs to be run out of business before it does any further damage to this so-called profession.

I am a former CMT and took the exam in the 80's to prove my worth instead of "grandfathering in" as so many people did back then. I dropped my certification for several reasons; the dues were expensive, it wasn't important to my employer and I live in a small town with no access to chapter meetings and it was difficult to stay current on my CECs. Keep that in mind if you become certified, you need to stay current on continuing ed. I recently saw an advertisement for an on-site hospital job that desired certification, so some employers do still look for it in their candidates. If you think it will give you an edge in the job market, then go for it. As Poppy said, it is about taking care of yourself.
I think you're mistaken in its value. - sm

I've done a fair bit of job hopping in the last two years; if memory serves, it took seven before I Goldilocksed into my current one. And not one did they even ask if I had my CMT, suggest that I get, or offer more money for having it. A good experienced MT is going to make at least as much as a merely adequate one with their CMT. And any company pushing for a cadre of CMTs is probably one with work that can't stand on its own merits.
The only thing a CMT proves is gullibility. But, thats - what MTSOs want: The naiive and GULLIBLE.

If you're REALLY interested in watching out for yourself, don't let AHDI take you over to THE DARK SIDE.

I agree. In fact... - JMHO

...I would support manditory credentialing or licensing. Just my opinion. If someone were to sit down and transcribe my medical record, or a record of one of my family members, I would want them to be credentialed.

I find it hard to believe that in this day, anyone can be hired to type detailed medical data. There should be some basic standard for MTs.

CMT Differential?

Last holiday (Labor Day) I was paid a differential.  It is usually time and a half so going by your base you will see an additional line on your paystub of holiday lines:  ex.  if your base rate is 0.08 you will see holiday pay 0.1200 x 1000 lines.  As far as I know, we have not received any notification that we do not get holiday pay.  ...

I think I may have spoken too soon when I said they basically got rid of it.  Math is definitely not my thing, but after studying it further, isn't it basically the same?  It says, An additional $0.0075 per line or $0.09 per report for work transcribed between the hours of:  (and then it gives the different hours for each time zone)............. How Does Shift Differential Work?
Dec 26, 2012

Kinda confused about the shift differential and how it works.  I worked about 2.5 hours before the 6:00 a.m cutoff.  I did 1008 lines today in that amount of time.  Do I take the 1008 and multiply it by my shift differential amount and then subtract that 1008 from the total lines for the day, or is the shift differential "extra" in our pay?  Really don't have a clue how to figure this and I work these hours everyday.  Would like to know before the first paychec ...

Remember When Getting A CMT Differential Was The Norm?
Dec 19, 2012

Just reminscing, lol.  Five years ago I used to get a 1 cpl CMT differential and that was not uncommon or hard to find.  Through a buyout by Transcend that differential was taken away and now with another buyout Nuance not only has no differential also, but wants to pay those of us with a CMT the same rate as a new hire with no credential.  I love the ads that say "CMT or RMT preferred" but the hidden ending to that sentence is "but we don't want to pay you for it."  W ...
