Precyse--sm - srl

Posted: Jan 17, 2011

I tried to apply for an MT job with Precyse last night, but was given a message that they aren't "hiring in my area."  Has anybody else run into this?  I figure any area in the US is good since most of us work from home, am I wrong?  I do live in Alaska, but last time I checked we were still part of the country. Just curious.  Thanks.

Do you live close to Sara Palin?!!! - ATT

Consider it an Omen. Maybe they are in that which was talked about here about some new law about hiring only within a range of miles...don't know. I believe that service is down South. I typed for them years ago and it was horrible. The computer they supplied was no memory and would shut down whenever you had to go to their website for all the information. Horrible programming and I got to type short chart notes that the nurses dictated!!! You got it...nurses never dictate! So, try another.

lordy, next time I'll say I'm from Aruba. LOL - srl

Thanks for the info, I may just keep on looking.

Don't think that will get you a job either!! - ATT

If you say you are from Aruba, they don't want to deal with the problems across water!? Or maybe they will try to pay you less because....just because you are from somewhere else, and of course the cost of living! You should try maybe some of the services there in California. Many of them have good reputations and here they were the ones who were having their IC workers become employees because of the 'new law (?)' about the distances in which the workers were at. ?? That was posted here the week of Thanksgiving because girls had posted where they were outside the limit of the miles and they all got an email the day before the holiday that they had no job. So, all these girls are looking for work also. I am not sure where the girls were located who were let go. One who was still kept on was from Las Vegas. So, I don't know if Alaska would be too far then also. There are a few services there in Washington State. Then you always have Medquist or Transend. We all have to suffer on earth I guess.
goodness, maybe it's time for a change....sm - srl

I've never worked for a service. I've been working for the hospital here for 16 years on and off and now they're laying people off. I realize I won't make my sweet Alaska wages anywhere else, but dang, I didn't realize it was so bad out there. I'd have to do 5000 lines a day to make the same amount of money. What are the current favorites for MTSOs?

Good luck. Many of us lost steady, decent-paying hospital jobs years ago. I would strongly advise if possible that you study/train for something else. This profession is the fast track to financial ruin. Many of these companies have outsourced the work to India for pennies. If you are "lucky" enough to work for one of these firms you will be working on five to six different accounts, constantly referring to rules/formatting required for each one (job 1 hospital wants it done this way, job 2 hospital wants it done that way...a zillion different foreign accents - good luck getting familiar enough with any of them to make some real money). If you are lucky enough to land a good account, be prepared to wake up one morning and discover that it has been removed from your queue and NO reason given, or to be told sweetly that you still have it when you only end up getting 1 to 2 jobs per day on it max. No --- I am absolutely serious - you need to look for another profession - do it now.
Ouch on Alaska prices and competing with Alabama - workers for pay. Something
[ In Reply To ..]
that requires you right there may be needed. I'm hurt enough down south at what competing with workers across the country, never mind the planet, means.

It seems to me, though, that you should be able to offer a genuine scheduling advantage way out west there as the globe turns. BTW, can you see Russia as you work? :)

Current favorites? Forget any of that. Most of the young American doctors edit their own work. With VR, the doctors who are taught last are the foreign one and usually the worst because the machine cannot understand..surprise..or the very fast American who feels it is a waste of his time and he slurs and talks as fast as he can, because, the machine will do it all. So, that's the work you now get. And to make the same as in-house and with benefits? Forget it. No respect either. Easy to get angry at a number.

Yes, this is hard to believe, but many transcription companies in the Lower 48 will not hire Alaskan transcriptionists. I worked for the same GI doctor for 7 years, and when he had to change transcription services, he tried to get me a job with the new people. I contacted them, passed their tests, then interviewed twice on the phone. During the last conversation the man said wait a minute, your address is in Anchorage, Alaska? I said yes, of course, and he told me that they do not hire outside the contiguous 48 states. I'm not kidding. There are many others too.

veddy interesting... - srl

I did email Precyse asking about that. My email was a tad snarky, but I had a feeling my address had something to do with it. I will most likely be moving out of state so maybe I'll wait til I have a more "appropriate" address before I do anymore applying. Thanks for the info.

Dont move to CA - lots of MTSOs dont seem to - consider CA part of the US, either. (nm)

Maybe this will help clear things up - Former MT Manager
[ In Reply To ..]
If a company is located in Miami, for example, and they have MTs all over the country, not only do they have to follow the labor laws of Florida, they have to follow the labor laws of the state where the MT lives. They must also have workman's comp in that state, which costs money and they have to deal with state income taxes. California - your overtime is 8 hours in a day - elsewhere you do not get OT until 40 hours in a week, that is why companies do not want MTs from California. I was only allowed to hire MTs from seven states, because it can get confusing and expensive. Hopefully this answers some of your questions. Remember don't blame the messenger.
Thanks for your genuinely useful answer. Makes - perfect sense. Pragmatist

Usually it is a tax issue - mt2long

[ In Reply To ..]
Oftentimes, the tax requirements of a state are the reason a company will not employ MTs from those states. You might want to then vent re the state, not the company.

Okay, have to confess....sm - srl

Turns out I filled out my application wrong!!! HAHAHA Instead of entering USA, I put "other." But, I do appreciate all the info I received and suggestions.

Precyse offshores a lot to India - not only USA

So, I wonder how entering "other" instead of USA would have been a problem?

Can anyone tell  me if Precyse still has Precyse University for training.  I went to work for them a few years ago and quit because I was only doing 1-2 hours a day for a couple weeks going through the University and waiting for things to be approved in order to move on and was not making any money, got fed up and quit.  I would like to reapply but do not want to if they still do Precyse University training. ...

Does Anyone Know What's Going On At Precyse?
Oct 13, 2011

I work at Precyse and it seems things have been strange lately and I was wondering if any of my fellow slaves know what's happening there.  For example, all of a sudden lots of work for many weeks now (previously was having NJA all the time), so much work that we're way out of TAT with a lot of accounts, yet I see no place where Precyse is advertising jobs for MTs, including their own web site. Also, the sudden firing of a number of QA people and a few lower to middle management p ...

Precyse Update
Jun 11, 2011

I was just wondering what is happening at Precyse.  I left Precyse last month after they sent my fourth account over to India, and there was no work.  Management kept telling us to be patient and just use PTO, but we had not really had any work for months and had already used up most of the PTO.  They blamed the no work situation on the bad weather during the winter.  I am at a new company now, and they seem to appreciate me, which Precyse did not.  My team leader ...
