Physicians Choice, new MTs pay them? - ggmt

Posted: Jan 11, 2010

I found a company called Physicians Choice Transcription Service (PCTSI) which says they take newbies but you pay them money weekly as a payroll deduction.  You start out paying them $100/week.  Does anyone know anything about this kind of service?  I've been looking for work for weeks and have seen several places want "start up costs" in the thousands, but never a place that takes $100 a week from your pay when you work for them.

Has it really come to this?

It doesn't seem completely unreasonable as the fee sm - Kiki

you are paying is a training fee. It sounds like this is for any new, never before transcribed or had any classes, transcriptionist. It would be just about the same as if you were to take a transcription course. After you are released, you are considered an employee and no longer pay that fee. It is not like they are asking MTs with experience to pay them.

it says you have to have finished school first - ggmt

Read the webpage, the very first thing it says is it's NOT for "new, never before transcribed or had any classes" MTs. You have to have finished school first before you can pay them to work. I found their company on the M-Tec website, by the way, where they want people who already paid a few thousand for training to pay more so they can say they had job experience.

I would respectfully suggest that the money would be better spent on paying for tuition at a good school(one that uses the SUM program) rather than throwing it into the coffers of these fly-by-nights.

If you really believe that, Ive got a nice bridge out - here in San Francisco you can have real cheap.

NewMTs pay them - Old MTSO

Do not, not, NOT participate in these scams. They are exploitative, cruel, and unnecessary. NEVER PAY ANYONE TO WORK FOR THEM. That is just backa**wards. Use your common sense. No, no, NO! And SHAME ON THEM for using people this way.

I was so surprised - ggmt

This ad surprised me because it was so blatant, especially since it was on M-Tec's webpage where graduates are supposed to get "help" finding places to work.

I know it's futile, but I just wish I'd known 2 years ago what I know now about the scams and the schools and the industry. I'd never have tried to get into MT in the first place. But there's surely hundreds of others who feel the same way.

Never, EVER pay for "employment"... its a SCAM. - Been there, done that. Dont do it.

It is expensive for additional training: $ 900.--...nm - after grad training

Sounds like a scam to me. I have never heard of a legitimate - business that does this. Try MedQuist,

They are currently hiring and they take newbies. You can gain some experience and move on if you choose.

Do The Physicians Know What We Do?
Mar 23, 2012

During all the eating, nose blowing, just sitting there and reading the chart, talking to the patient and office personnel, and accepting phone calls during their dictation, do they realize there is a person on that dictation line?  Do they even know what we do? I have a couple doctors who do this constantly!  It is not so bad if I am typing, but on VR all of this chatting and phone calling comes in on their dictation and has to be deleted constantly!!  Frustr ...

Physicians Doing EMR
Mar 23, 2014

I have noticed my regular doctor's office using EMR and it is used by the nurses more or less with the point/click stuff, not too much "major typing" but still aggravating that I have to sit there while they input their data.  BUT, I took my child to a specialist last week and the physician himself was using EMR and it wasn't such a user friendly point and click thing going on, he had to type SENTENCES at the time.  These sentences he was typing were achieved by him using his ...

Physicians And Billing
Feb 02, 2013

I see a lot of my clients as a patient. I have health insurance, which states that they accept a certain payment from that insurance as full payment. However, certain clients do balance billing, which is illegal. Balance billing is basically billing you personally for the amount over what they accepted as payment from that insurance company as an in-network physician. If this were not my client, I would refuse to pay; however, since they are my clients, I have no choice. How would they feel if ...

Interesting Statistics Regarding ESL Physicians
May 08, 2011

If you think you are getting more and more ESL dictators, you are probably right.  According to a public website, there were 2130 Visa petitions/applications and 748 Green Card petitions/applications for PHYSICIANS for the year 2010 alone.  That does not include all the ESL physicians that came into the United States over the previous years.  Yes, some applications were denied, but why do these hospitals feel they need that many foreign physicians to begin with.  If you are ...

Soliciting Physicians For Work, Help Needed!
Jan 14, 2010

I need some help.  I have many, many years in the industry with transcription, VR editing, QA and auditing and I have decided to cut out the middle man (the transcription companies) and solicit physicians on my own for work.  My problem is not knowing the going rates to charge.  I know they are low, but how low.  The transcription companies are paying us very low rates, but how can I find out what the dr's are actually paying, so I dont cause the market to drop ...

Why Bad EMRs Are Forced On Physicians By Edwin Leap, MD

from KevinMD website "I recently did a tally.  Since starting my locums adventure last year, and going to full-time locums in January, I’ve worked in a grand total of 11 emergency departments.  Let me qualify that for the occasional visitor to my blog.  I decided to do this for purposes of flexibility, finances and a much needed change of scenery.  Not because I’m a problem physician, or unable to do the work in a “real” job.  I say that to ...

If You Had The Choice

If you could go back in time, would you still be a coder?  I guess I'm just curious if the "Oh, I wish I had done something different" sentiment is a prevalent here as it is in MT. I Am IC By Choice And I Have A Problem With ICs Who Just
Sep 08, 2010

I work 7 days a week because I WANT to and I like the money I make doing that. I have a daily personal goal that far exceeds what MTSO expects. I resent that I have to share my lines with on-and-off IC who just pops in whenever.  Expecially when they pop in at the end of a pay period trying to get all their lines in 3 days.   The MTSO knows when I am going to log on and she knows she can count on me.  I should not have to share MY lines with an irresponsible sometimes IC. ...

No Choice But To Go With Nuance
May 25, 2015

Hello fellow MTs, In July, the only Acute Care Hospitals left in my area have been taken over by Nuance.  Everything in my area has been taken over, as the rest of the country. Basically, only the BIG GUYS are left anymore.  They are eating up the rest of the smaller transcription companies. I have been a transcriptionist since the age of 21, back in the typewriter days.  I am now going to be 54 and have to stick it out until hopefully 60s. I worked for MedQuist a few years ba ...

Is The CCS Exam Multiple Choice?
Apr 23, 2012

I was just wondering from anyone who has taken the CCS exam recently, is the whole exam multiple choice?  I ask because I am taking the Andrews course and using the AHIMA-published workbooks and they are all multiple choice.  I use a different skill set when doing these questions, work my way backward with deductive reasoning, reading the question and looking up each answer, eliminating the wrong ones.  This seems faster to me and I want to work as fast as I can on the test.  ...
