MDI/TRANSCEND CONTRACT - NJMT

Posted: Nov 21, 2009

Got my contract today!.  No surprises.  Everything straightforward.  Sounds like a good deal to me!!

Can I ask if you - MDI-nervousMT

[ In Reply To ..]
had to take a line rate decrease? That is my concern at this time. I am under the impression that our rates will depend on our accounts and perhaps the difficulty/demand they require. I have office accounts and hope it is not decided that office accounts vs acute care is much easier so my rate gets cut. Still no packet in the mailbox today. I now have to hope it comes on Monday. Thanks!

MDI/TRANSCEND CONTRACT - njmt

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, but it was exactly as discussed previously in the conference call. No surprises. You can email me privately and I can answer questions. I think it is a great deal for me.

So I am assuming that - MDInervousMT

[ In Reply To ..]
it is your usual line rate minus 1/2 cpl for employee status? If that is it, then I am relieved. Thanks so much for sharing this as I know quite a few of us probably have not received our packets yet and it may make our weekends less anxious. :)

Yes.. It was exactly what they told us in conference call. No surprises.
I am anxious to see how you all feel in a year, hope you don't need benefits. nm - long year for me

Benefits - NJMT
[ In Reply To ..]
No, dont need benefits. Having PTO is nice though..
I wish I could make enough money to be FT and get PTO. - justme
[ In Reply To ..]
I hope your accounts do not move to BeyondTXT. I wish you good luck!

Same here - MDIMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I also had my line rate decrease by 0.5, and I don't know if they mentioned that this was going to happen before.

thanks for sharing, - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
as I haven't gotten mine yet.

CONTRACT - MDIMT

[ In Reply To ..]
My contract is pretty straightforward, however, I noticed that my line rate is 0.5 cents lower than what I am now making with MDI. Has anyone else's line count been lowered?

Line rate reduction - lb

[ In Reply To ..]
The line rate reduction was discussed in the last conference call. It is across the board for anyone who becomes PT or FT to help pay for the opportunity to get benefits and for PTO whether you take benefits or PTO or not. Still very competitive.

The cut for PT was news to me in the last call - Anxiously awaiting

[ In Reply To ..]
and I don't see how that is far. PT gets NO benefits except 401K, not even PTO, so I don't understand how that keeps it fair to have PT take a cut when for the same paycut FT gets health ins., PTO, etc. How does a 401K equate to giving up the same paycut?

VR rate concerns me - cwazywabbit

[ In Reply To ..]
The straight line rate was indeed just as was stated in the conference call, a $0.05 decrease from my current rate. However, the VR rate weighs in as a 60% cut. I've done VR before and didn't even see the then-vaunted 20% to 30% increase in my production. In fact, many times I found it faster and much less frustrating just to type a report over from scratch. I have little doubt that within a year or two 80% or more of the workload will be on VR...I don't see how I can accept the offer when it comes to VR. Too bad...I was feeling pretty good about things until I saw that.

Also worked VR for MedQuist - MDIMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I hated doing VR, and it truly hurt my line count. When I started out with MedQuist we did very little VR, and then we were told we were going to do half and half, some typing, some VR, and then it became 90% VR and 10% typing, and my pay took a nosedive as well. I did what you did and found out I could type the reports faster than doing VR. Some nights, I wanted to throw in the towel because I was totally bored out of my mind and fed up with correcting what VR did not. A lot of the time I prayed for just 1 report to type, which is why I went to MDI. I see the same situation all over again.

I worked for the Q too - cwazywabbit

[ In Reply To ..]
and I really hated VR. I gave it a good shot, too, all for optimizing skills, adapting for the future, professionalism and all. Still it was very frustrating and I found it much more fatiguing than transcription, since I couldn't really get any sort of "flow" going. Hopefully with Transcend we won't see the nightmare than we did at the Q. Still, one of the stated "keys to success" in Transcend's October investors packet is to "increase volume edited using speech recognition technology," and I'm quite confident that's where the majority of our work is going to end up (especially since many of us will be paid above current scale for straight transcription). I hated what the Q became, but will say that at least they paid me 55% more for VR than Transcend is offering. I've read the posts claiming 500+ lines per hour on the Escription platform, which is what it would take for me to earn a decent living at the offered VR wage. I'm not disputing anyone's claims, but still feel extremely skeptical that it's possible for me to comfortably achieve and MAINTAIN (most important!) numbers like that on a regular basis. Quite bummed now, really.

Line Reduction for "market value" rate? m - HopefulMDIer

[ In Reply To ..]
I thought at one point earlier on they mentioned in a conference call that those working AT fair market value (I think that is the phrase they used) would NOT receive a 1/2 cpl line reduction. IOW, if you made say 10-11 cpl you would receive the deduction, but I specifically remember someone asking about those who make 9 cpl and below, and was told that is "at" FMV and would not receive a decrease. Anyone remember this or see it reflected as such on their contracts?

I remember it - cwazywabbit

[ In Reply To ..]
I remember the statement about current-market-rate hires not being assessed the half-cent cut. Can't say whether it's been put into practice though, since it didn't apply to me.

I remember that - MDIMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I remember exactly what you stated as being mentioned at a conference call, and they said that only those who were making 10-11 cpl would get a reduction in pay, not those making 9 cpl and below, so this is a surprise, also because I just got a pay raise 1 month ago by MDI.

Well, for those making 9 cpl or below, I sure hope they mention that immediately if m - Hopeful MDIer

[ In Reply To ..]
they get a decrease. Hopefully the powers that be will honor what they originally said about it.

I make $0.09/line currently and the contract specified that I will continue at that rate. - nm

MDI Contract
Mar 15, 2010

I was looking through papers this morning and happened upon the contract MDI had us sign last January as independent contractors, but to be treated as statutory employees for FICA.  I didn't see anywhere where it stated an end date, and it did state that the contract was transferrable to any entity that might acquire MDI, if I read and understood it correctly.  Does that mean that Transcend was then bound by that same contract?  I am just wondering, since our line rate w ...

Contract Abuse?
Jun 26, 2010

Hi,   I have a big dilemma and I need help. I have been working for the same company for 6 years now. At first I worked for a bunch of doctors and a hospital and then quit the other docs and the hospital because one of my doctors said that he did not like to share and that he wanted me to work only for him. I did not know that was illegal to do until recently being that MTs are contractors. So I have been working for this one doctor and all the nurses and interns in the office for about 5 ...

Question About IC Contract
Aug 31, 2011

I have never worked as an IC before, only as an employee. I was offered a position by a company looking for an IC, and they have an IC contract that they send you and want you to sign. Is it common for an IC contract to contain the clause that you must provide 14 days' notice if you are resigning and that if you provide less than 7 days' notice they have the right to withold 50% of the monies owed to you? I can completely understand that they want adequate notice (just like any employe ...

Contract Concern
Nov 13, 2012

Can someone please help me. I am new to the company, I have not been here 90 days yet. my TSM is "gone" so I have a new one now and have not yet spoken with her. I am very concerned because I realized that my "contracted" rate of 4 and 9 cpl at 150 lph does NOT meet my state minimum wage, I rarely get straight typing to get the 9 cpl. I also am not meeting the 150 lph yet, even so that is only like 6$ an hour, that is horrible. I should have done my math beforehand. I didn't think they coul ...

Question About 2 Clauses In IC Contract
Mar 09, 2010

I'm new with only a few months of MT experience under my belt.  Was offered a job with a company in Canada which I've heard nothing about.  However, their contract has 2 clauses I'm concerned about and would like your opinion on: 1. They will only pay for reports that meet their "accuracy and completeness requirements", and they wouldn't give me those requirements until I signed the contract. 2. Failure to meet a deadline for any reason means they will " ...

IC Contract After A Month Of Work

IC Contract Question - Is This The Norm??
Feb 17, 2013

What do you think of this? Is this a normal inclusion on a contract? Personally, I think this is a load of B.S. (P.S., they only pay 5.75 cents/per line to begin with, for straight transcription.) Any errors requiring extra processing (blanks/questions) or reprocessing (resends) created by the Subcontractor will incur a charge that will be billed to the Subcontractor by the Contractor. Charges will be made on a per-line basis of the entire (re)processed document with said line being 65 charact ...

Employment Contract With Nuance

MTSO Has State Hosp Contract For Less
Oct 05, 2012

In a state where there is a prevailing wage (over $19/hr for MTs) law for employees who perform work on a state government contract, how do you suppose this MTSO is in compliance when the MTSO itself is only getting less than 10 cents per line? Of course, they are probably not in compliance.  I suspect that, while the company address listed on the contract is within the state, the work is being performed offshore, perhaps in India (just a guess after seeing the contractor's name).&nbs ...
