Keystrokes 100% QA - sm

Posted: Feb 15, 2010

I'm new to Keystrokes and just found out I barely didn't pass my very first audit to get off 100% QA.  Does anybody know how long they give you to get this 98% passing score before they fire you?

feeling very stressed out now - sm

I thought you got 30 days to pass the audit?

You'd better memorize the BOS - Old and Tired MT

I started with them and lasted a couple weeks. I couldn't stand the nit-picking over punctuation, etc., with quotes as to chapter and page of the BOS. I have 30 years of experience and don't need them to tell me where or where not to put a comma. The BOS changes every year just so they can make it obsolete and you have to buy a new one. If you want to keep working there, you'd better memorize it.

Probably your QA editors or coordinator could help you with this - Keystroker

Actually, on a graded QA, they do not count off for punctuation unless the incorrect punctuation changes the meaning of the sentence. Keystrokes does use BOS as their standard, as do most companies who care about quality. You do not have to buy a book every year, as Keystrokes also has a Keystrokes Style Guide which details any changes from year to year. I know they provide lots of feedback, and the editors are great to work with, if you utilize their help. It probably would be more productive if you directed your questions to the one who actually would know the answer, perhaps the one who did your QA or the account coordinator.
Keystrokes fired me after 9 days - with 20 years experience! - Ancient typist

They drove me nuts with their commas and BOS quotes. I have never been fired from an MT job, especially after 9 days; forget about 30 or 90 days trial time. I was also never told about their Style Guide. Good luck there!!
Keystrokes doesn't fire over commas :) - keystroker

Keystrokes style guide is just a condensed version of BOS. If you're familiar with BOS, you're okay. You may have gotten QA feedback regarding incorrect puncutation, but this is not counted off in the graded QA, unless it impacts meaning of the sentence, which happens. Only gross terminology/account spec errors would keep you from going further on an account. Not every MT is cut out for every company or account. Good luck!
Punitive management styles usually come back to - bite the company that uses it. NMsg

QA=punitive management styles. That makes no sense at all....LOL! - QA lady

Every company and MT has an obligation to their client (and to the patient)to ensure that the reports they complete accurately reflect the patient's history. I could give you examples of the type errors I see each day that would make your head spin. If I were a client, my criteria for choosing a vendor would be that they 1) had QA plan in place and 2) followed some type of industry standard....maybe BOS??
Hope you're right! - for your sake

s/b:

"Keystrokes' style guide..." or "The Kestrokes style guide...", there's no comma after "graded QA" and it s/b "...unless it impacts THE meaning of the sentence...".

Three errors...but who's counting?
No company fires over commas. SM - just me

The complaints about commas coming from more seasoned transcriptionists are hysterical. I do QA for a national, although I have given notes about punctuation, it is not counted on a review or to get off 100% QA at all. When an MT is fired, it's because they are making major errors or many careless errors that could have been prevented by going a little slower or reviewing their work.
it ain't just a Keystrokes thing - dc

Just got hired for a new company. Word to the job-seeking: Although smaller companies are usually better, beware the companies with one person doing your QA. Many times, I have found, it is done totally arbitrarily. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Where I'm at now (I'll email you the name if you want but I JUST GOT HIRED and don't want to get fired), they even provide you with examples from the dictators then take off points if you follow those examples to the T.
On my account, while you are on QA, editors....sm - MT

send comprehensive feedback for every report until it is evident that you understand the acct specs. If there's no rhyme or reason, then QA is ineffective. At KS, there are quite a few editors, and more than 1 person does QA. On the account I work on, QA is very necessary because of the level of difficulty. I get feedback from quite a few editors. Not all accounts require extensive QA, but some do. It's all about finding the best fit.

I really like Keystrokes - but

had a hard time with the constant tiny changes while on 100% QA. I understand verbatum is verbatum, but not being able to distinguish the prolonged ers and ums into of, and, etc., should not count against you. This is especially true on the ESL accounts.

I've read over multiple old reports including from those QA themselves and have found errors uncorrected, many similar ones that have been corrected on mine.

I really think the key is to go very slow, analyze word for word, and then cross your fingers you didn't miss anything irrelevant to the report that you'll be dinged for. Don't worry about speed, as you can get that once off 100% QA. Do your best.

I'm not sure, but I think they start giving you warnings almost as soon as you're hired if you fail an audit. They also start doing these audits on you within 1-2 weeks of actual working. Yes, while you're in the process of learning all the account standards among other things. I don't understand why they do this, as most MTSOs at least wait until you're out of your first 30 days before issuing any actual warnings.

Good luck, you'll need it to survive Keystrokes. However, once you do get off of 100% QA, you'll find it less stressful and easier to do your job.

Use QA feedback as a tool to learn... - KS2

I know QA can be stressful. I have found that all companies have QA to some extent - and it is differnt. Keystrokes uses the account instructions first, then the style guide and BOS. In my experience, if you cannot get off QA hold because of continued errors, you may be audited to see where you stand in relation to the required 98%. I have learned a lot from feedback and the QA editors are fair and kind. My advice is to read all of your feedback, make notes, and keep the account instructions and style guide on your desk always for reference. Good luck!
