Just love applying for jobs and having to take their stupid test just to get a reply of the position has been filled as of Friday and we will keep your resume and test on file. Yeah right. I never hear anything back from those Co. I tested for. Does anyone? What a waste of my time. Wish they would just say up front we have 2 positions available and 500 people testing, so I would know up front that it is just a waste of my f****** time. Starting to wonder if they just need some extra work done that they refer to as tests? Fed up. Does this happen a lot?

I've heard from companies who kept my test on file. They get hundreds, if not thousands of applications and I don't think it's a lie. You don't have to wait for them to call you. Be proactive, and if there's a company you really want to work for, stay in touch with them. Call or e-mail every couple of weeks to ask about openings. Not many successful job seekers wait for employers to contact them. Sorry, but that's how it is.

Yeah I know that. I am not new at this game. Been doing this for years, but it's just frustrating when you think you finally did your research sorting through the CRAP companies and finally narrowed it down to that job you want and nope it's been filled. Last time this lady kept promising to call me back as a new account was starting. I kept in touch with her on a weekly basis and she kept saying she has not forgotten about me and then I get the old "Sorry the job has been filled". I guess I need to fall back on the ol stalker technique and E-mail them 10 times a day so they get the message that I am really interested. :) lol.

It has happened to me too. You take time to written test and then transcription test, then no reply.

I have been offered positions following testing but the pay is often less that what I'm getting now or the hours are crazy so I decline the offer. It seemed at one point, I was testing way more than I was getting called back and I felt very confident that I was doing a very good job on the test. I often wondered the same thing about them basically getting work for free with the "tests" and merely going back and pasting the info into the proper report. Sounds untruthful but nothing would surprise me any longer in this profession with all of the under-cutting and other procedures going on these days.

As bad as I need to pick up a part-time MT position, I just can't bring myself to take another test so I've pretty much resolved myself to being broke until I can get out of this field completely. I even unsubscribed from Stedmans emails. Not buying another darn book! Glad to know I'm not the only one thinking this way.

I think "testing" is how some of these crooks clear - up their backlogged work. (n/m)

The MTSO has to QA and show all the mistakes or edited portions (most likely using the compare feature for each tester, which takes a considerable amount of time), email the MT, give feedback/speak with the MT, return the test, etc. That would be creating even more backlog with the time involved than having hired employees/IC transcribe it, who are familiar with it and have correct formats (correcting formats alone is intensely time-consuming). Yes, they will have to test on real dictation instead of something read clearly for testing purposes to see if the transcriptionist is capable of doing their work, but I highly doubt they are catching up their workload with it. I know I used to test with dictation that was at least a few days old (something I had to manually go grab from backup folder) just to ensure I was not being accused of any such thing, but if somebody is reading very clearly a sample test, and then the real dictator comes on (as in a difficult ESL), you have wasted everybody's time if the MT cannot understand what he is dictating. Doesn't anybody ever consider the "other side of the coin" before posting a bunch of negative comments?

Sounds like a little kid. We obviously know you were "saying it" because you said it, so it is basically redundant. But, if that is how you wanna talk, so be it.

It bugs me just as much when someone says "I woke up at 10 am in the morning." Duh, you certainly did not wake up at 10 am in the evening!

No there "anon" (so original) I did not make a mitake. I love to post here just to get a laugh for the day and thanks to "Juvenile" and "Anon" I just did. It's just Amazing how DUMB some people are to post replies just to turn things nasty or to cut someone down when they don't spell something correctly. Funnier than the Sunday Comics I tell you. "Juvenile" you are and I knew I could count on someone to post that angry, evil, ugly monster to get things fired up as I was just saying. Thanks for the laugh. It's been real :)

I type a lot of crap, but just had the worst doc I think I ever had. Had 11 QA markers so I sent it to QA thinking they might actually LIKE getting some work since they are about to be history. Anyways, this bi*ch marked 2 CRITICAL ERRORS and did an audit on it (which was still 96.5% in spite of everything I am glad to say). QA you wonder why we have such a bad attitude? I spend a lot of time typing for a huge university hospital clinic with no ADT. Have to type in all patient information. Almost every report is a LETTER. Referring physician has to be typed into the ADT. Then the letter recipient information has to be typed in and lo and behold have to re-type it into the cc list for the doc to get a copy of the letter. I wonder why I can't run a decent line count? Don't you just hate it when you've got a dictation that is so fraught with static, and it sounds like the dictator is 100 miles away from the phone, but you actually can make out the words, just barely, and you'd love to leave all blanks because it's such a chore to hear any of it, but you can't, of course, because you can make it out? I have been at Nuance 4 months and don't know how I am going to go through another week there. I've been an MT since 2000. Each year I see my pay go down. I've been with 2 big MT companies now and it seems like they are very similar in regard to the fact that they like to screw over their MTs. I wish somebody would figure out a way to train new hires other than setting them down with only a few hours training and letting them type their entire shift without a word from anyone, only to have QA come in the next morning and correct all the reports. I was just chatting with someone about transcription and ASR (it's been about 3 months since we switched) and it came to me what my biggest problem with it is. We have no control over it. With regular transcription, we are only limited by the quality of the dictation the sound. It slows my computer way down. I was typing a little while ago and all of a sudden the word I had just typed disappeared and the line above it was doubled! When I scrolled up and down the page it just got worse. It was about 2 minutes before it fixed itself and I was able to put the cursor in the correct place and finish the report. And I agree with everyone else here, the doctor lookup is a joke! Just a time-waster and too many keystrokes. Why would they do this to us? I just ignore that new ...
