I have been at Nuance 4 months and don't know how I am going to go through another week there. I do not know if it is just the account I am on or what but I keep getting assigned horrible ESL dictators. There r good dictators on this account also, but I cannot seem to get those very often. I am just about to throw in the towel... I just can't quit but I am actually afraid I am going to get fired because I cannot meet this stupid line count with these type of dictators and secondly I am making no money!!! So frustrated!!! Do they fire you for not meeting your line count? I have 6 years of experience and I feel like I just graduated!!!

I feel just as frustrated as you, and don't know how I am going to last there either. It seems impossible to meet the line count...just as you are getting up there, they throw in an ESL from a clinic/specialty you have never even been on before! I have never been so frustrated in all my MT jobs I have had over the years. I also wonder if I will be getting fired soon!

Yes, I just got a new ESL yesterday that is terrible!!! I had him all yesterday evening. I get up this morning and his work is still waiting there for me. Did not anyone work last night????? I just don't get it. I don't know if it is because I have 6 years experience if that is why and there are a lot of newbies on account? I don't know... They switched everybody around and now I am just getting crap!! Another horrible today... Not meeting line count and not making any money.

I am producing lines in a week that I should be making every couple of days. One account we have is nearly all ESLs. I'm worried about the ax as well. Then we are asked to change shifts to free up work for OOW situations, next thing we know, they want volunteers for extra time. Been with Nuance 2 months. Don;t know any MTs on my team so can't know how others are making quota.

I would also love to know how other MTs are doing regarding their line counts on this account... Of course, they don't want you to know that!! We also are not allowed to send reports to client even if they have one blank. So how are you supposed to get your QA submission rate down with all of these horrible ESLs. It is just a no win situation to me.

We can't send reports with one blank either. Can't get the QA submission rate down or the TAT with those ESLs.
I am an old pro and my line counts are the lowest - ever. I have always developed every tool

and trick to get faster, I have over 70K entries in my main expander dictionary alone, and my production is in the gutter. Yes, I more than meet the minimums, but that's not saying anything for anyone who isn't still building skills. Before Nuance bought out my company I routinely earned an extra 2 cents a line incentive pay because of high production.

My excuse for still enabling this exploitation is the "old" thing; retirement's right around the corner. Those who aren't just waiting out that little stretch or aren't handicapped in some way really, really, really should leave this field. The plus is that they've made it so easy! There's now so little to lose by just walking - and for many an immediate improvement in earnings at some easy-to-get little job. All it takes is just a little get-up-and-go. Maybe kick a little dust at Nuance as you go.

Well, I've been working for Nuance for only three weeks, and I already feel discouraged. I don't mind the work or the learning curve, but I simply can't survive on less than minimum wage since 99% comes only with an inordinate amount of time spent on minutia. I'm going to bail any day now. Any idea how they'll take it? Will they even care?

On Friday after my shift I had a QA score of 99.7 for Post audit by this morning it was down to 98.9.

I have never had so many audits done in such a short period of time before. There were at least 10 reports post audit over the weekend (which I didn't work). Looks like they kept doing them until they had me under 99% then stopped. It is so obvious what they are doing.

I really don't understand, though, how some find our hapless colleagues regardless nationality or color such attractive targets. They're in the same boat. When I throw a rock, it's squarely at Nuance and other MTSOs! THEY'RE my enemy.

Get a clue: No amount of trying to please your employer and shifting blame to other MTs for your problems has ever kept your incomes from dropping, and dropping, and dropping.

BTW, Nuance is hurting for MTs these days. Not enough adequately skilled people applying to service the accounts. Want to hurt Nuance right back? Leave.

And be sure to file for unemployment. If half the people who technically qualify because of crashed wages, changes in work hours/availability, etc., applied, Nuance would be in trouble. Turned down? Consult an expert on how to get accepted.

Or stay but drop your production and increase your sick pay and doctor bills. See? Rocks that can actually raise a bruise.

Since you're making so little already, would dropping your production 5% hurt you that much? If everyone in this position did just that, Nuance would be hurting bad.

I was fired from Nuance at the beginning of March for not making my line count. I had worked for them (as Webmedx) for 3 years (they took over the transcription for the hospital where I had worked for 25 years). I have almost 30 years hospital experience, but once Nuance took over, everything went to hell in a handbasket. No matter what I tried, I couldn't meet the line counts. On my previous job, I was making double what I made with Nuance. First I was given a verbal warning, then a written warning with a one-week time limit to get my line count up. During that one-week limit, I was put on an account that my manager knew I had difficulty with (as well as almost every other MT on our team), so of course my line count was in the dumper. At the end of that week, I received a phone call from my manager saying I was fired for not meeting my line count - wham, bam, thank you ma'am, don't let the screen door hit you on the way out. They wouldn't even answer my questions about what to do with my computer (which is still sitting on my desk in my office). I feel like I was definitely set up to fail. Like others have stated, there is some good work out there, but they certainly didn't give it to me. And don't even get me started on the QA situation. At this point, I'm looking for an office job while collecting my unemployment. I have completely washed my hands of transcription. If you want a job where you are under-appreciated, underpaid, overworked and stressed out, then stick with transcription.

I type a lot of crap, but just had the worst doc I think I ever had.  Had 11 QA markers so I sent it to QA thinking they might actually LIKE getting some work since they are about to be history.  Anyways, this bi*ch marked 2 CRITICAL ERRORS and did an audit on it (which was still 96.5% in spite of everything I am glad to say).  QA you wonder why we have such a bad attitude?  That was totally unnecessary.  ...

I spend a lot of time typing for a huge university hospital clinic with no ADT.  Have to type in all patient information.  Almost every report is a LETTER.  Referring physician has to be typed into the ADT.  Then the letter recipient information has to be typed in and lo and behold have to re-type it into the cc list for the doc to get a copy of the letter.  I wonder why I can't run a decent line count?  I spend 50% of my time typing in information that I am no ...

My line count is in the toilet, it has slowed my computer down. The spell check is missing things like doubled words. The headers are ridiculous.  AND I use the mouse a lot more because half the time the arrow keys don't seem to work. This SUCKS ...

Don't you just hate it when you've got a dictation that is so fraught with static, and it sounds like the dictator is 100  miles away from the phone, but you actually can make out the words, just barely, and you'd love to leave all blanks because it's such a chore to hear any of it, but you can't, of course, because you can make it out?  Several of these in a row is enough to make me want to punch my computer!  (or eat lots of chocolate!) ...

I wish somebody would figure out a way to train new hires other than setting them down with only a few hours training and letting them type their entire shift without a word from anyone, only to have QA come in the next morning and correct all the reports. I hate learning this way, I do something wrong, spell something about the facility wrong, all night long only to learn the next day that it is wrong. I was just chatting with someone about transcription and ASR (it's been about 3 months since we switched) and it came to me what my biggest problem with it is.  We have no control over it.  With regular transcription, we are only limited by the quality of the dictation the sound.  The harder we work at perfecting our typing skills and our system of word expansions, etc., the faster we can work.  I spent 3 years getting to where there are very few words longer then 4 lett ...

It slows my computer way down. I was typing a little while ago and all of a sudden the word I had just typed disappeared and the line above it was doubled! When I scrolled up and down the page it just got worse. It was about 2 minutes before it fixed itself and I was able to put the cursor in the correct place and finish the report. And I agree with everyone else here, the doctor lookup is a joke! Just a time-waster and too many keystrokes. Why would they do this to us? I just ignore that new ...
