I received a letter today by regular mail from my health insurance that my coverage is being terminated due to "reduction of hours" with COBRA info enclosed. I was not surprised, as I could see it coming - I do not know where they get reduction of hours, as I make myself available for 40 hours to get less than a day's wages and not by choice. Obviously those many wasted hours on my part are not taken into consideration - what a joke. Just pray that I do not get sick until I can find another avenue of work.

because of "reduction of hours", is there any discussion of what hours you are to work? It doesn't seem right (not that the word and Transcend could ever be used in a sentance together) that you should be expected to hunt for work for 40 hours when they can't provide it.

There was no discussion of any sort conducted through me or by me - I presume the discussion was between the insurance company and Transcend. Transcend's policy, on the other hand, is you need to maintain $900 a pay period to be eligible for benefits. They squeezed me from FT employment and at this point not even meeting PT requirments, so as a result I lost my insurance.
With them taking away your insurance, are you going - Enquiring Mind

to adjust your hours so you are not sitting for 40 hours a week for work that is not there? Where's the motivation since the benefits are gone?

There was another gal a few days ago in the same situation with Transcend.

I urged her to report it to the labor department (both in her state of residence and Transcend's state of incorporation), and I urge you to do the same. Write the senators and congressman of your state and that of Transcend.

Finally, file for unemployment benefits.

With the info and how I can decipher it - it states I need to fill out the paper before a specific date and mail it in to qualify. The amount per month is not that high surprisingly, so that leds me to believe it may be a reduced rate. But all in all it is disgusting seeing as though the situation was out may hands. It would be a different story if Transcend had informed me over the months they were going to reduce my hours to PT instead of slowly making the work disappear forcing me to be in a PT positon. But like I have said on this board many times over, I am not even meeting PT requirements, and Transcend has another policy stating if you are not meeting PT requirments a review will be done and you will be terminated. I am waiting for that to be next, which would only make my life easier at this point as opposed to having any committment to them at all and just collect full unemployment as opposed to partial. :) I could see the handwriting on the wall and where this was leading to over the last few months - so came as no surprise in reality. This is just an example to anyone out there in Transcend world experiencing the same situation as I am.
Make sure you check into the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act - mt68

as it pertains to COBRA. If you are income eligible, you will only pay 35% of your COBRA premiums. I suppose the specifics vary from carrier to carrier, but it might actually make COBRA affordable for you.

Maintaining insurance - MDI/trans MT

There were some of us that did get an e-mail stating that if we did not maintain our line counts our insurance would be terminated immediately, no questions asked...If you cannot maintain your line count/make $900 per pay period, your benefits are gone. However, they are supposed to review this quarterly. However, the e-mail said that after the first pay period if we did not meet these requirements the insurance would be terminated.

When I was on Cobra it cost me $526 a month, and that was an enormous amount to pay, given that I was not making that much, but it was my only choice at the time.
I had to pay $400/mo. for mine, and I only make - $1200/mo. Rent is $995. (nm)

RLee, I am not trying to get into your business, but I don't think it would hurt you to see a lawyer. Many of them will see you for an initial visit for free and take your case on contingency. The way you are being treated is simply not right. And while you're at it, go to the Labor Board, too. These folks are unreal! I am so sorry this is happening to you.

Any support I greatly appreciate. I welcome the advice and opinions of all of you. My husband has been telling me for months to get a lawyer. I will be calling one this week to see what he/she has to say about the situation, but the main purpose for my posting is to let you all know just how devious Transcend can be - I want everyone to watch out for themselves, and make my personal experiences known so we can learn from each other and be somewhat prepared for what may come your way.

If that happens to me, my very next call will be to the - Labor Board, & the one after that my local news.

I can see if the work is there and an MT chooses not to do it. But if they purposely cut back your hours (most likely with the sole intention of not having to pay into your insurance), there must be some kind of law against that. That is really just unbelieveably LOW. It makes me sick that our so-called "good" country allows these things to happen to its hard-working citizens.

I'm flying by the seat of my pants now. I voluntarily dropped my insurance after the rates had reached an all-time high of $600 a month.....high deductibles and copay also.

After 14 years of transcribing for a medical practice, suddenly, without notice, I was "dumped."  My client implimented the required EHR mandated by President Obama.  I guess I was somewhat naive in not seeing this coming, but I assumed transcribed documents by a "real person" would still be wanted by my client.  Now I find myself at age 57 without work.  My next step is to inquire about verbatim transcription, but the idea of not correcting improper grammar and using "yeah" ...
