Hands On Transcription Virgin - DODtranscriper

Posted: Jun 21, 2012

Okay...I am new to the boards and have only worked with Hands On for 6 months but this is one of the better jobs I've ever had. I have always been paid on time, have steady work, receive constructive feedback which has helped to improve my skills. To date, the management team has been very helpful and friendly. I don't want to disrespect my MT colleagues, but perhaps they couldn't "make the cut" or are burned out from the profession. It seems to me the same MT's are posting over and over again and trying to punish the company and its owner. My work experience with Hands On has been very rewarding.

Hands On - just me

They list their opinions and experiences. Take what you read with a grain of salt so to speak. I know from experience that MTs who are fired can post a lot of untruths and bash companies, so if you are happy, then that is all that counts.

I transcribed at Hands On, and we did have an issue with pay, but a misunderstanding. I was paid. I left in the end because the pay was not high enough to survive in California, especially considering the amount of actual typing (I was used to templated work or part templates/part transcription). She did have plenty of work, that was for sure! However, she needs to speak with some of the dictators regarding the quality of dictation.

I am not posting untruths. I was asked to prove what I was saying and I did. That is why my posts were not deleted when she complained about them. Have someone keep from you what you have worked hard for and see if you don't have a few harsh words. I can take it myself but when it starts to affect my family and those I love you have the choice to give me what I have earned when asked for it or live with it. Nuff said.

I was excited when I saw that they use Bayscribe, but 6-1/2 cpl sm - Colorado MT

is not a liveable wage, and with 35+ years of experience, I would not even consider it. But I'm glad you are happy there. For me, I am my sole support, so I have to earn a decent wage.

I have to agree. I have NEVER encountered a company where you are "required" to load THEIR software for testing. (I posted earlier and the responses are below). My biggest issue/concern with this company was the fact that when I had to download Bayscribe to test for this company -- could not get the player to load and apparently, with my computer, it was an IE issue. I finally got it to load (after several hours and 2 days on the phone with Bayscribe tech support) and first report I get for the "test" is a pulmonary function test. I realized right then and there, this company was using "live dictations," as a way to clear their backlog. The doctor dictating that particular report was HORRIBLE. I sent emails to both C and BL, and got the runaround from both. The next day get Bayscribe up and running, did another "test" report, tried to send it through, and got a message that "I was not authorized to send," or some such message. I tried to log in the third day, to "finish the test files," and received a message that my user name and password were not authorized. THAT sent the message to me that she was "actually hiring," but placing it in "test mode."

I do try to speak out with companies that I feel are wrong in their "business ethics," and I am now probably blacklisted, but a lot of these companies have to start realizing that we are NOT machines, we do have lives and to start paying us a decent wage. I recently went in for an exam for trying to get disability, and the doctor there did not even grasp the concept of VR -- with having to use a keyboard for "commands," it is hard for me to reach the right side of the keyboard. I may not type at lightening speed either, but I do realize that a patient's life could be on the line and that a medical record is a LEGAL document.
Sorry for the typos, but have been up for three hours and 7:30 a.m. here so back to bed for a bit.

So happy to hear you are getting along so well with the company! If I could not have "made the cut" I would not have been with her for seven years. I would have been gone a long time ago. As as for being "burned out" NEVER. I love what I do. Sounds to me like someone is tooting their own horn again.

Hands On Transcription - Happy

THis is a great post and I couldn't have said it better myself. I have been emplyed by Hands On Transcription since 2004 and am very happy with this company. There are large accounts and the physicians are very easy to understand. I am paid on time and regularly and I have gotten to know the owner and some staff members and they have helped me many times over the years. It is a quality company and I feel fortunate to work for them.

Just asking.... - Medmom

Uhhhh, what large accounts? Oh, do you mean the "new very large account we are trying to get set up" for months now for her "50+ employees"? The only large account she had was with Rothman and that is long gone. You mean you were the only one who did not get the email about our checks being late starting in March? You were the only one who got their check when her son forgot to mail them or whatever excuse she came up with at that time? Boy, you must have known the owner and staff "members" really well to have that sort of setup! If jobs were not so hard to come by I can promise you I would not be the only one that currently worked or works for her that would be saying this. They don't want to end up getting fired like I did for asking for what they had earned! Are you SURE you are talking about the same company???

Hands-On Transcription

I found some old posts in the Archives but was wondering if anyone had any recent experience with this company. Their website is a one-pager with not a whole lot of information but looks legit enough. Also, is Bayscribe easy to learn and utilize?  Will it interfere with any player I currently use for voice files?  I have never used any kind of platform - always just digital voice files and Word. Any information or input on either question is appreciated. Thanks! ...

HANDS ON TRANSCRIPTION IS THE BEST
Jun 21, 2012

Have all of you gone crazy? I have worked for C and Hands On for more than 10 years, have always gotten paid, always had work every day just as promised, and love the flexibility of my job. It is obvious that those of you who were not doing your job, and therefore have too much time on your hands, because you can't find another job are posting this non sense. I know C has been in business for 30 years starting from scratch. Tell me....how does someone stay in business for that long in ...

Hands On Transcription Any Recent Information?
Jun 15, 2012

I was recently asked to test by this company and most of the communication was done via email.  I have over 30 years of experience and this is the first time that I have ever been asked by a company to download their softwiare in order to be able to test.  I downloaded the software on Tuesday evening and spent until yesterday trying to figure out why I could not get the Bayscribe player to come up.  When I contacted the lady who seemed to be in charge of the testing, she had no id ...

Hands-On
Feb 07, 2011

I have worked for Hands-On for a few years now and I think it is a well run company. I recently had surgery for breast cancer, and the owner and manager were very compassionate and concerned for my well being. They are always available to help if I have a question. It is one of the best jobs I have had. You have to work hard, but after all it is a job and if you follow the "rules and regulations" regarding quality of work and turn around time you will get along just fine. You also transcrib ...

Paresthesia In Both Hands
Oct 21, 2009

Date: 10.21.09 I am 44 and a medical transcriptionist. I started working as an MT at age 35 and since then has been doing this job. For the last one year I have been experiencing numbness and paresthesias in both hands and lots of trouble with neck stiffness and fasciculations in both shoulders. I type for 8-1/2 hours from Tuesday to Saturday. I have concluded from this that onset of carpal tunnel starts when a person(male or female) is 40 or above 40 years of age.   ...

Fat Loss In Hands

Hello, this may be an unusual question, but I have been transcribing for about 3 months now, after completing 12 months at Career Step. I've been noticing over the last week that my hands are looking almost like skeleton hands. It's like the fat is disappearing and the bones are becoming more prominent. Also, the veins in my hands are becoming very, very vascular. They are about the diameter of a drinking straw. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this common with excessive typing? I ...
