GCT of Florida - HereWeGo

Posted: May 14, 2013

Well, as my nickname implies, here we go again.  GCT of Florida and everyone who works here just loves it here.  They have started the process of treating us, their MT's, like the other companies, not giving us straight answers if we get any answers at all when it comes to why our work has diminished so much.  This past weekend the hospital we transcribe for started doing the big switcheroo over to paperless and they're having the doctors electronically fill out some of their reports.  I know the main ones they must be filling out electronically are discharge summaries, because up until 2 days ago there was an abundance of discharge summaries, always.  Now they are very sparse and occasional.

If anyone is looking to come on with GCT be aware!!!  Their work is dwindling and dwindling very very fast.  This is going to be the typical electronic or speech recognition wipeout scenario.  They will keep us built up thinking things are going to pick up and then one day everyone will get the boot.  There's not enough reports out there with them to pay the rent now.  This basically happened overnight.  For the ones who can't see the forest for the trees, start looking and if you're offered something it's best to take it.  This company is trying to keep us interested in working and making us THINK the work is going to be there, but it's not.  Heed my advice. I've seen it happen just this exact way too many times.  I'm leaving.  Hate to do it, I've been there almost 2 years, but I have 2 teens to feed and a mortgage.  This amount of work isn't going to cut it and it's NOT because of a lack of patients at the hospitals either.  The work is gradually being taken away.

Were you doing all work types or just summaries? nm - wondering

I am just going to throw this out there as a possibility because it is happening to the mid-sized company I work for (and am trying to leave). Like you, I have a mortgage and cannot just pick up and walk. Anyway, I have reason to suspect my company is for sale. I have no direction information that this is so. It's just that I have been through three sell-outs of smallish companies that got eaten (two by the Q) and am just wondering if possibly there is a sell-out in the works for your company? I could be dead-bang wrong, but as I read your message, something just felt like "sale pending" to me. I am trying to get out of MT altogether. Good luck to you.

Have you worked there long? Could be just a low time of year, along with the change over to paperless.

Am very glad to see this so I don't apply back there again. - SM

I worked there a year or so ago, and liked the place. Was hoping to go back at some point, but I think I can cross it off my list.

I know what you mean. They have been good to me, I can't say they haven't. They are only in survival mode, but that doesn't help me or my kids any. If they would only be honest with us instead of making it sound like it's just a temporary thing. It's temporary alright, temporary employment. I hate it. My heart is sad because I have been so comfortable with them for so long. When they do not reply or just flat tell us what is going on and why the work isn't here anymore, what are we supposed to do? We have to look out for ourselves and look out for each other by posting what we feel is going on thru message boards like MTStars. Thank goodness we have an avenue to communicate to others before they get in a world of a mess.

First of all are you sure you have your facts straight? How do you know GCT is not being honest with you? I have worked for GCT for over 5 years now, and love it, and totally trust administration. They have never been dishonest with me, always forewarning if there are changes coming, etc. I think before you slander a company's good reputation, make sure you have all the facts correct. Do you have proof that the doctors are typing their own notes within the EMR? During the 5 years I have worked for GCT, work this time of year has ALWAYS,ALWAYS been slow as the snowbirds have gone home for the winter. This not at all unusual. You may be feeling panicky, etc., but please do not ruin a good company's name without all the facts. Also, just because a hospital system has gone EMR, does not mean they will not utilize transcriptionists.
I agree!!!! - Keyslammer

I tend to agree with you 100%. I am relatively new to GCT and I have had nothing but honesty and people being upfront with me since the get-go. All one need do is ask and they will be given a truthful answer. If anyone who is an MT has been in the business any time at all (personally I have worked this field for 28+ years) you KNOW there are slower times. It's a pattern and it happens every year, without fail. So, with all this said, panty up sister and work a bit extra in the times when work is abundant and rest on your laurels when it gets a bit slow. Maybe even take on a part-time job to help with the lean times. I work 2 jobs and it hasn't killed me yet. There! I feel better.

I went through this, too - AnaPhylaxis

My experience was with MDI-MD, and, yes, the first red flag was the work, which had been bountiful, all of a sudden began to drop until there was practically none, no matter what time day or night I signed on to work. MDI-MD MTs' communications were met with either silence or we were told to just hang in there. Yeah, we did try to "hang in there" until a lot of us were just left hanging. I was lucky enough to just segue into full-time employment with my part-time MTSO but many did not have that opportunity.

I've had a knee-jerk reaction ever since then whenever work slows down for some reason. Going through buyout shenanigans really has a long-term effect on the MTs, not just financially but mentally. Instead of leveling with their MTs, they put up a facade of everything being just fine, hang in there, just a little longer, yada yada yada, and then, after we've put our trust into them, we finally find out the truth.

Okay, rant over...Reading all of these posts just really struck a nerve with me about just how duplicitous these MTSOs can be.

I hope things do work out for you, HereWeGo. Good luck :-)

I went through that with MDI, and they kept telling us that nothing was wrong, that new accounts were coming on in September, yada-yada. Because I had worked for them for a long time and really liked them, I bought it--hook, line and sinker. I very nearly ended up in bankruptcy court. I was able to avoid bankruptcy, but did lose the beautiful place I had. I know nothing at all about GCT and do not know HereWeGo, but I would advise her (or him) to trust one's instincts. Several of us were led right over the MDI cliff while the owners who sold us out were likely sipping martinis on their yachts and being happy about their 16 million or so. So yeah, I have become cynical and I say--always trust your instincts. Remember what the Bard said: TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE. If you have an instinct telling you something is wrong, don't ignore your instincts. My instincts told me to leave MDI, but instead I bought into the crappola--my fault. But you know the old saying, FOOL ME ONCE, SHAME ON YOU. FOOL ME TWICE, SHAME ON ME. Good luck to everyone.

C And C Transcription In Florida

I was going to test with them, but first you are directed to download an .exe file which they say is a self-extracting zip file to install an audio driver. If I double left click on it, it pops up a box asking me to log in to a secure FTP site with a user name and password. If I right click and "save target as", it just says that it cannot download the file. Does anybody know if this means they aren't accepting new applicants, or is there some other reason I don't know about? ...

MEDSCRIBE FLORIDA Info
Oct 30, 2011

Confused on whether to go with MedScribe or not.  They seem like really nice people, but would be a pay cut (but they pay for spaces and now not getting paid for spaces). It also seems like the work would be consistent.  My biggest fears:  Having to work Saturdays, but most of all, if I can meet their 1300 line a day requirement.  Right now, my line requirement with another co. is 800 lines a day and it seems that is all I am able to get, but I think that is mainly because of the accounts an ...

Medscribe Florida Pay Cuts
