Can anyone give information on Focus.  I would love to hear from someone on their experiences with Focus?  I see old postings on this, but nothing as of recent.  Thanks for your help!

Focus Nuance - nn

Kim, I worked for them for about 3 months from approximately May-August. I am an MT with close to 30 years of experience and frankly, my experience with this company was one of the worst I have ever experienced in my career as an MT. I worked on the EScription platform and did both straight transcription as well as VR. The account that I had was very heavy ESL and they started putting doctors on VR that in my opinion, had no business being on VR to begin with. I am 55 years old, and I am also cerebral palsied on my right side, so not the fastest typist/editor because I have my own style of typing; but I found their line requirements per hour for both typing and editing to be ridiculous. With my experience, I have also done QA in the past and the method for their feedback, I found to be very strange and cumbersome. In my opinion, they are also very deceptive in the fact that they will vehemently deny that no one from India does QA or is involved in the "Focus side of things" and that is strictly not true. They would take points off for what they felt improper punctuation, etc. They wanted "verbatim," so if the report looked like garbage, that is what they expected the MT to produce. I have seen recent posts where MTs who currently work for them are running out of work. Plus, they paid a "wage" and lines and I never made a decent salary with them. I know that it is hard going out there, but sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs before you find a prince.

Thanks nn for your quick response to my question. I am 51 years old, and actually started on a typewriter. Then I went to a contractor, got in the mess with the IRS, and then to a doctor's office. Dr's office went to VR. Now, I am trying the online thing, which is all new to me. This is actually my first online-from-home job. I know my speed was adequate, but it seems alot harder to make linecount now; and in fact, have not yet! Plus, workload is light. So, you are right there. Any company tips you can share are appreciated. Take care of yourself, and thanks again!! Kim

I worked for Focus for a little over a year. When I first started, I thought I had found that "perfect" place to stay and work. I have been an MT/QA for over 15 years and had experience on multiple specialties, hospital sizes, and more. When I started, I had a great TL, a great account on which I did QA, and was given 2 secondaries - meaning I always had plenty of work .... at the beginning. However, as time went on, they moved more accounts offshore to India, including the once I was hired to work. This done, they moved to me to a huge money-maker account, heavy on ESL, an enormous acct spec file, and TLs who were power hungry. It was horrid, and never got better. I was moved, again, to another primary, and then another, and then ANOTHER, as more and more people were hired for these HUGE accounts and work become sparse. In the end, I had about 6 accounts I was working, most of which had little to no work on my shift. My TL was very much a micromanager, and was constantly IMing, emailing, calling, etc., especially if you were one minute past your scheduled time to start. Also, they had no qualms about asking you to work your days off, and weekends, but there would be no work available. It was frustrating to sit and wait for work, be told to flex, but still have nothing no matter how much you flexed. The holidays did me in for various reasons - not the least of which was being told I had to work Thanksgiving when I had requested time off that was never acknowledged, and then was told that I had to work Christmas as well because of "my" mix up. I quit and have never regretted it for a moment. I have heard from friends who stayed that have said since the buyouts it has gotten much worse there. All in all, I don't think I would recommend Focus to ANYONE. I completely agree with NN's reply and feel her pain!

Kim, I have to say a few things about Focus in hopes that you will stay away from them! I worked there before they had the Nuance buyout and loved it. After the buyout, I got a TL that was nice at first but then became a witch as time went on. They would call me at 2 or 3 in the morning to work on STATs. I was always asked to work on my days off. I was called on a Saturday morning and got chewed out for being 5 minutes late for my shift. Protocol was ALWAYS changing. Work load was becoming less and less. The list goes on and on. I urge you and everyone else to find some other place to work. Obviously, I'm not the only one on these boards that have had issues with them.

Anyone Know Anything About Focus Infomatics?
May 04, 2010

I received an e-mail today from a recruiter at Focus Infomatics.  I applied there last year and didn't meet their experience criteria but the e-mail asked me to send them an updated resume to see if I do now (and I do).  I currently work for MQ and quite frankly, I could take it or leave it.  I've not been impressed by MQ but I don't see a reason to leave a job I'm not fond of for another job I may like even less.  Any info about them would be greatly ...

Focus Infomatics - Anything About Their Platform?
Dec 07, 2009

I looked through the archives but couldn't find anything about their platform.   I did speak with their recruiter and YOU HAVE to have a 32-bit operating system, XP or Vista, and Windows 7 is not compatible.  I'm pretty sure that when I looked at these guys about a year ago now, they set you their computer like many of the national companies do.  Also, does it seem like more employers are looking for MTs.  I haven't been on this site for a while but I think it was in Octobe ...

Is Focus Infomatics Really US-based Now?
Jan 29, 2010

A former manager of mine from "brand X MTSO" (in reality, a very dear friend now) got thrown under the bus.  She knows how "QBay" does.  She is considering an MT or QA job for Focus Infomatics.  Focus claims to not offshore, and has offered my friend 8 cpl.  That sounds terribly lame wage wise for all that experience. When I couldn't drink the MQ Kool-Aid anymore, I was making a whopping 9 cpl.  Of course, try doing the math on that formula come payday.   Jus ...

and has been there long enough to be eligible for benefits?  I just took a job with them.  I will be able to get insurance in 90 days.  They give me a price.  It is $217 every pay period (2 weeks) for family coverage.  That is Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance with a $2500 deducitble.  What I was wondering... is there a copay on Dr visits or do you have to meet the deductible first?  I believe she said you pay copay on prescriptions.  Also does anyone have ...

Question About Pay At Focus Infomatics
Sep 08, 2010

Hi. I have a question about pay at Focus that hopefully someone can answer.  Transcription is paid at 8 cents per line and editing at 3 or 4 cents a line. Current Information On Focus Infomatics

So Done With Focus (Nuance)
Jan 17, 2011

I am a QC with Focus and I have to say, I am so sick of this company.  I have tried and tried to love them.  I have been with them for a long time and I stuck it out.  I tried.  No more.  My team lead is rude, unprofessional, constantly contradicting herself and just outright mean.  I am tired of editing India's work.  I work my rear off to get my line count (what I need to make) but over the last couple of months, that has been cut in half due to no work. ...
