Can someone please provide a link or list of questions to ask... - sm

when applying for a transcription position? I have a short list of questions to ask (outsourcing, platform, equipment, line counting method, ESL percentage, etc), but would appreciate any input on possible questions I haven't thought of. I have years of experience, but haven't applied/interviewed in a long time. Thanks for your help!

I.e., what is the company minimum lines per hour, how many lines per day/week/pay period are required to maintain full-time status (assuming you're looking for full time work). Other pertinent questions would be what shift(s) are they looking to staff, what equipment and/or software do they supply, what do you have to supply yourself (and here would come in the questions about minimum operating requirements, operating system, software versions, expanders, etc.). Oh, and the all-important do they pay for spaces and demographics questions.

You can also ask how they structure their work pools, will you have a primary and secondary account (and maybe even a tertiary), how often might the account run out of work, what are the flexibility options when they do, how long are you supposed to sit there waiting for work when it's scarce, etc., etc., etc.

You can also ask about benefits, do they offer PTO, how is it calculated, what about holidays, and how much is the employee's portion of the health insurance premium. And do they have direct deposit, and a 401k and so forth.

That's all that comes to my mind at the moment... anybody else?

I would want to know if they pay you while you are training and if you get paid for your time when there is no work.

How about asking what text expander works with the system? Not all work with all programs. Also, don't believe everything the recruiter says, as they are not MTs, and don't know squat about transcribing. Is the system in a VPN? This is sometimes a problem with anti-virus software. If it is a call-in system, will you have your own dedicated line or have to fight for a line into the system? (Very frustrating) and if a dial-in system, do they pay for the long-distance? All problems I have run into in the past. Just a few things that came to mind.....

Is there is quick way to add commas between items in a list? Of course, using Ctl K in front a word will change the punctuation, but it will also change a capitalized drug to lower case, and you will still have to get to the beginning of the next drug which will require 2 Ctl arrows and backspace. Ctl arrow takes you to the beginning of the next word, but you will have to backspace to put in the comma. Adding punctuation to lists is so time consuming! ...
