You seem to think... - MT2

You seem to think there is some limitless supply of medical transcriptionists in Asia (India and The Philippines). There most definitely is not. You know as well as I do that the level of English required to do medical transcription is exceptionally high. It requires near-native, college-level fluency in English, and very very few Indians and Filipinos have that.

And for the tiny percentage of Indians and Filipinos who DO have near-native, college-level fluency in English, there are dozens of high-paying jobs they can choose from, not just medical transcription.

Finally, to quote Thomas Friedman in his book, "The World Is Flat", Indians don't want Americans to make as little money as they do. Indians want to make as much money as Americans do. So keep in mind that American transcriptionists aren't the only transcriptionists who are thinking "screw this" when it comes to the standard transcription pay levels.

The transcription industry is reaching a point where compensation is going to increase, because the demand for completed transcription is exceeding the worldwide supply of transcriptionists.
