How to type "pus-ee" - Katie

Does anyone know if it is okay to type the word pussy, (pus-ee) meaning full of pus? It looks so bad and I know I have run across this before...just not sure what is the correct thing to do. Thanks!!

I would type pussy (adj). Webster-Merriem Dictionary states it as "full of or resembling pus."

"Pussy" is almost always not allowed by the client. Pus-filled - is usually preferred. nm

I always change to pus-like, not sure if this is - correct

This is one of those I may get dinged for with QA. I use to work for a doctor that told us in medical school they would showed them something pus filled and ask them to describe it. When they would of course says "pus-e", they would ask them how exactly they spell that. They told them to use pus-like when describing, so that is why I have always typed it that way. May not be correct, not sure, but I am not typing it the other way and submitting it that way with my initials on it.

Despite the dictionary definition of the word, I have been told to ALWAYS correct the word to PUS-LIKE, simply because the slang word is a vulgar/offensive reference and PUS-like is and would be concise and unoffensive to any reader. If the dictator specifically asked that the word be spelled out p-u-s-s-y, than I'd change it.

Pussy and puslike are two different things, to me.

Pus-filled is better than pus-like, if you are going to change it from "pussy".

I use "pus-y".

After working for many doctors, there is no way I would type pusy. Not sure that it is at all correct grammar. When you look at that word, it makes you look twice. It seriously does not even look like a word. I'm quite certain your doctors would probably feel the same way.

Depends on how it were dictated if I would put pus-like or pus-filed. When my doctor that says this dictates, it is usually a "pussy" material coming from wound. So, personally for me I rarely used pus-filled as if she is looking at it coming out of say his knee, I'm not going to type "pus-filled material coming out of the wound on his knee". Doesn't make much since. Most of the times that I have needed to use pus-filled the doctor usually dictated it that way, like radiology or op reports.

I was trained to type "pus-like" instead. I looks a LOT better.

If the doctor is talking about the appearance of pus he is stating it is material that is pus. When you change it to pus-like, you are changing it to read that it is not pus but a material like pus. there is a difference between pus and pus-like. Kinda like lady and lady-like. Lady refers to a woman of female sex but when you say she is lady-like you are referring to the way she acts. JMHO
